  • Optimized for sleeping in, it’s a near-total blackout
The blackout cover on this tent is legit. Without that vent open, it really is nearly pitch black inside even during full sun. A tiny bit of light pokes thru the zippers at the bottom if the fly isn’t pinned down. It comes with so many stakes I thought there was a mistake. There’s stakes for the tent, for the two lines, and there’s a handful leftover that I eventually learned is for the extended bottom of the blackout fly. It doesn’t stop at the base of the tent, it goes out onto the ground so the whole tent is fully covered. Light goes thru the tent itself quite readily, it will get hot in the morning like a typical tent without that cover. The cover is designed to block all the light, including the light at the ground, thanks to those flaps and their ability to be pinned down. The blackout feature is a game changer. The first thing I noticed is it doesn’t make those obvious silhouettes at night when a light is on inside, so it’s more private than a typical tent. The big difference is in the morning. I’ll hear people from other tents begin stirring and complaining about the sun making their tents unbearably hot, but it still feels like nighttime in this one. If I have the vents open I’ll be able to tell the sun is up, but if I have them closed it’s easy to sleep in without realizing how late it has become. Along with the darkness, the blackout cover keeps out heat. It can be significantly cooler inside this tent if it’s been shut all morning. Like twenty degrees cooler. Even at noon, the tent still feels like nighttime if it’s been kept shut all morning. The material works as intended. It’s a heavy cover, heavier than the tent, heavier than my interior blackout curtains, but similar to other blackout tent covers. It’s a typical good-quality rectangle tent otherwise. Comes with usable aluminum stakes, not the cheap bendy ones. Bottom curls up so there’s some flood protection. Has reliable pole connections, smooth guides that don’t get caught on the poles. The usual amount of pockets/loops/hooks, the one optional mesh shelf at the top. It’s a familiar shape and design with a different type of cover. It’s a larger bag, less packable, and there’s no option for a lightweight non-blackout fly and smaller case. It would probably work with any rectangular 2-man tent fly, if that was necessary. I found the setup a little more involved than a basic rectangle tent due to the extended length flaps on the fly, but still very simple. There’s nothing tricky about it, and it takes under ten minutes. Breakdown is easy. It goes back into the bag without a struggle. This tent is a solid value for the price. It lacks the finer touches that a top-tier tent offers, while hitting similar performance specs. The bag is basic nylon duffle style, nothing fancy, not quite waterproof. It’s splash resistant, but if left out in the rain for a few days, the tent inside will be damp. ... show more

  • Not a bad tent, but has room to improve for the price point
There isn't much that needs to be done with a tent to make it work properly. You need it to withstand the wind, the materials need to be tear-resistant, and it should be easy to install. What's an added bonus, however, is how well it keeps light out. This tent effectively blocks out light, even during the day. It's a small and lightweight two-person tent that sets up easily. You stake it down, slide the poles through the sleeves, attach the rainfly, and stake that out, all in about five minutes. The ventilation is great, as both sides have a "door" and ample breathability. The materials used in this tent don't seem to be of the highest quality, at least in terms of appearance. The stitching also looks a bit subpar, but considering how lightweight the tent is, it may not need to be particularly robust. Ultimately, while you might not choose this tent for its quality, the price and its intended use are likely to influence its overall value. Overall, the tent does a great job of staying dark even in bright daylight. It's also spacious for a two-person tent and quick to set up. For $130, I may compare it to other tents before purchasing, as you can visit a store to look for yourself. ... show more

  • Near total darkness and excellent heat control
I have serious trouble sleeping with the sun out. We had a trip planned that would shift our activity schedule to overnight and require day sleeping, so I gave it a try for the darkening feature. It says 2 person, 4 season, and I'll agree to those numbers. Two people, cozy, probably in a double bag only. Not two dudes in two separate bags. The four season claim is easy. The tent itself and rain fly are both heavy duty material. With good stakes it should handle pretty much any weather. The blackout is achieved by the aluminum backed material. If you've never tried it, it blocks light and heat from the sun VERY effectively so long as there's any airflow to vent the air that is warmed on the back side of the fabric. The concept is called "radiant barrier." It didn't rain on our trip but the material appears to be sufficiently water resistant for moderate rain. The PU3000/PU5000 ratings are good enough for most weather you'd go out in. The tent is dense for the size but not so heavy you can't backpack it. The price point is reasonable based on the blackout and waterproof features. ... show more

  • Compact and easy to setup
I got this tent for the times I go camping in the shoulder season with my kid. We don't need a bigger tent, but we want something that can keep us pretty warm. I am not sure I would use this tent in the dead of winter, but late fall and early spring seem to be the sweet spot for the 4-season capability. As far as being black-out, it does its job, its dark and helps for sleeping in late. What I like most of this setup is its compact size and the ability for me to keep it stowed in my jeep in the even I decide to do an impromptu sleep out, with very little to no bulk, but with more conveniences vs hammock camping like space to keep a litte bit more gear close and dry. ... show more

  • Ultimate Sleep Sanctuary for All-Weather Camping
This tent is great for rest quality. The advanced blackout fabric and heat-insulating layer create a near-dark, cool environment even in direct sunlight. The 4-season readiness features a full-coverage snow skirt and high waterproof ratings that make it a reliable fortress against heavy rain and winter snow. Despite its rugged protection, it's a lightweight and free-standing design that is impressively easy to set up. I appreciate the dual-vestibule layout, which provides extra covered space for muddy gear, keeping the interior clean for sleeping.. ... show more
