I got this tent for the times I go camping in the shoulder season with my kid. We don't need a bigger tent, but we want something that can keep us pretty warm. I am not sure I would use this tent in the dead of winter, but late fall and early spring seem to be the sweet spot for the 4-season capability. As far as being black-out, it does its job, its dark and helps for sleeping in late. What I like most of this setup is its compact size and the ability for me to keep it stowed in my jeep in the even I decide to do an impromptu sleep out, with very little to no bulk, but with more conveniences vs hammock camping like space to keep a litte bit more gear close and dry. ... show more

This tent really does provide near darkness even under bright sunlight, which is a fantastic feature if you like to sleep in after sunrise. For a two-person tent, it’s relatively small and lightweight, and it’s very easy to set up. Just stake it out, slide the poles through the sleeves, clip on the rainfly, and stake that out as well—done in about five minutes. Inside, it’s quite spacious, with enough room for two people plus their gear. I also like that it has doors and vestibules on both sides, so no one has to climb over the other person for a late-night nature break. That said, there were a few issues. First, one of the two aluminum tent poles arrived broken. It’s not a catastrophic break and may not affect usability right away, but it is concerning since aluminum poles are expected to be fairly durable. Second, the black rainfly had several small holes in it. They’re not large, but they’re enough to compromise the waterproofing. Because the fly is black, they were easy to miss at first. Some electrical tape or tent-safe adhesive could probably fix them, but a few of the holes are along seams, which suggests they may not have been sealed properly at the factory. Third—and this is more of a minor annoyance—the toggles that hold back the window coverings aren’t positioned very well. Even when secured, the coverings tend to hang down a bit and get in the way. Overall, though, the tent delivers on its biggest promise: it stays impressively dark even in bright daylight. It’s also roomy and quick to set up. Lightweight and easy to setup. Good size and durability with exceptional overall quality and value for the money. It’s also very water resistant for camping in bad weather as well.
