I purchased the Garmin USB Data Card Programmer to download the navigation databases for my Garmin GNS 430W. Garmin provides free downloadable software and device drivers for the unit. The user-friendly software makes downloading data easy. Earlier versions of this product included a CD with software and device drivers, but Garmin no longer provides a CD in favor of accessing the most recent versions from the internet. Gulf Coast Avionics is one of my favorite suppliers for Garmin products. The unit arrived within a few days of the order. I followed guidance from the Garmin website for acquiring this product. There is a separate product for Jeppesen data. A few Google searches made it easy to pick this product, but apparently some customer dissatisfaction arises from selecting the wrong product. I have successfully used the Garmin USB Data Card Programmer to download the most recent navigation database, which took about five minutes. I then re-installed the data card into my Garmin GNS 430W, and the unit booted successfully, showing the new current database. Nothing succeeds like success. ... show more

I used to use the Jepp programmer for my Garmin 430Ws and I recall it being much slower, more complicated to operate the software, and more expensive. I recommend switching to Garmin even if all you need is an occasional update. The only downside is that this programmer with it's long cable is bulkier than the small portable Jepp programmer which didn't have a cable. If you need the ultimate in portability you might consider modifying the cable or use the Jepp product. ... show more
