  • Works great. Use it whenever not fishing out of the boat.
Style: No GPS Pattern Name: Sonar
Works great for me. No problems. Finds the fish around the dock and casts a long ways. Accurate water temp and depth. I have a dedicated rod and reel for it with heavy braid. It even has different sized fish on the screen which helps target the big ones.

  • Fish eyes

Had I known about this device sooner, I would not have needed my portable Garmin fish finder. I am no expert on fish finders, I can only tell you that as my first fish finder ever, I am very happy to have purchased this castable fish finder. I needed to change the fish symbols to show as fish or else I could not have understood what I was seeing. Paired the app. with my phone, very simple. I have braided line with heavy duty swivel to make sure I don't lose it. Maybe the GPS version would be worth it should it be lost, mine is not GPS and I am happy with my investment. It works very well. Can take it shore fishing or on a boat. If you have a raft or one-man boat to fish in then get this thing. ... show more

  • It's Worth The Money.
Style: No GPS Pattern Name: Sonar
The Garmin Striker Cast is a good alternative fish finder/sonar for the money. I have a unit for my boat, but I do a lot of bank fishing also. The unit is super simple to get going. Download the app, open it in your Smart phone or tablet and cast the Striker where you want. Instantly the screen scrolls from right to left, revealing the surface, depth, water temp, fish, and at what depth. I haven't used it that much, but I do like it. The Cast comes with a USB charging cable, once it's fully charged, it lasts 10 hours. Be sure to keep the cable in a secure location, the connecting end is not a common or USB connector. The unit comes with instructions, and a carrying bag, and two snap type swivel clips I believe. It is recommended to use the snap snivel to eliminate line twists, and that 20 pound or heavier line be use. This photo has added graphics to share with a friend what's in the photo. It's also recommended that the unit be rinsed with fresh water and dried before storage. ... show more

  • Works like a charm!

I love this tool! So easy to use and pair with my phone. I stillwater fly fish and primarily use it for water temp and depth. This season I’ll experiment with fish marking…

  • Easy and versatile way to locate the fish
Style: No GPS Pattern Name: Sonar
The Garmin Striker Cast does not do everything but what it is designed and advertised to do, it does it well. I wanted something I could use from a kayak and did not require mounting anything, or needing electrical connections. I got this model without GPS mapping since it requires a phone app to use and since I am going to have phone on anyway I can use the GPS map on the phone so no need to spend more. The app was easy to figure out, and the device is activated once it is in the water. The graphics are basic, but you can learn pretty quick how to discern what you are seeing. Importantly you get water temperature and depth information. It's name indicates it is castable and it is. I have used it bank fishing by casting toward areas and it takes some guess work out of whether there might be fish where you think they might be. In the kayak I use the supplied tether line instead of casting. In confines of kayak it is easier not having another rod to deal with. The tether lets you toss it out, or you can tow it along behind. The Garmin Strike Cast is a good value, it will help locate the fish, tell you if water temp is optimum and the depth....if only it would tell you if the fish are biting it would be perfect. ... show more

  • Functions well when stationary
Style: No GPS Pattern Name: Sonar
I bought this to use while fishing from my kayak. It performs OK if I am stationary, but if I start paddling, it stops working. It seems that this is probably happening because the transducer periodically dives under the water and wobbles a lot when it is on top of the water and probably either loses Bluetooth connection with my phone, or fails to hear the echo returns from the bottom, because of the wobbling. I bought the version without the embedded GPS because I figured all I needed was the GPS in my phone. But I was a bit disappointed after receiving it to learn that I could not create the Quickdraw contour maps without the embedded GPS. Garmin should include a switchable on-button. This unit just turns on when the contacts are immersed in water. So I can’t really use it by sticking it down to the inside of my kayak with putty and shooting the sonar signal through the hull. That’s the way I mount the sonar transducer in my sailboat. ... show more
