Best bang for your buck fish finder out there. I use it for ice fishing (I didn’t realize they made one specifically for ice fishing with a different transducer) but I had to buy the ice fishing transducer separately. I also bought a cheap LIFEPO4 7AH battery which makes it light as a feather. Not that it’s heavy with the small lead acid battery it comes with, but it is substantially lighter with the other battery. This thing has held up phenomenally for 2 years now with no issues whatsoever. I’ve used this thing in heavy snow, heavy rain, and negative degree weather and it’s worked flawlessly every time! There’s loads of different features and options to choose from. There’s plenty of YouTube videos on best settings for whatever your use case scenario is. This thing is incredible! Pictured is the 7AH battery I got off of Temu for less than $20 over a year ago. It is the exact same size as the lead acid battery the fish finder comes with so it fits in the portable case’s groove for the battery perfectly!

I purchased this Portable Kit for Ice Fishing and it worked great. You don't need the Ice transducer or larger screen that comes in the Striker 4 Plus. I was highly impressed with the performance with this package.

I have a Vexilar FL-8 and I bought this so I could keep one at the cabin and one at home. This has become my favorite fish finder. I thought I'd use the flasher on this like my other one, but I really like the traditional sonar much better. It allows a little bit of history to be read so you can watch your jig patterns and see what brings the fish up from the bottom. I had no problem seeing the screen in direct sunlight like others have said. The transducer isn't your normal ice fishing kind but it works just fine. It picked up my 1/16oz jig on the screen no problem. The cord can get a little stiff if fishing in like 15 degrees or less making it a little harder to wrap up at the end of the day. The ice fishing specific transducer for this is about 2/3 the cost of this whole unit ($100-120). there is also no arm to hold the transduser away from the edge of the ice hole. I bought a Marcum replacement arm and attatched that and used a Vexilar little stopper bean to keep it at the right depth. It comes with a battery which was nice. The power cables going to the unit aren't the same connector as the charger for it so you have to take the wires off at the battery terminal to charge it rather than just unplug a quick disconnect and plug in the charger. The carry handle for this doesn't stick out of the soft case and its more like a carry pocket. The material between the handle and your hand can be a bit slippery if holding it with gloves.

I wanted to get back into reservoir fishing like I did back in the 90’s, after having been saltwater fishing the last 15-20 yrs. With having to rent a boat for the time being I wanted to invest in another portable FF/DF that I could transfer when I do get my own reservoir set up just like I did before. The Hummingbird FF/DF I had before isn’t made any longer, which I really liked. So after weeks of research I finally decided on the Garmin Striker 4 portable kit and wanted to wait in order to provide an honest review. So in the 2 months (7 times) of using this, here is my thoughts on it. Before using the 1st time I had watched several YouTube videos, which I highly recommend doing. There’s so many options that you can do and it took 2 uses to really get it dialed in to my liking. By the 3rd time is really when it had paid off, and the amount of fish that I’ve been catching has increased specifically bcuz of using this FF/DF. No you don’t need one to catch fish, but it’s only common sense to see how it can be beneficial. Being familiar with FF/DFs this Garmin S4 portable FF/DF is a steal at the price point given the amount of options you can customize with it that’s not in the description. The only thing challenging to me, is to remember the details of the waypoints I checked in. All you have to do to enter a waypoint is hit the ✔️ button. Then you can go in afterwards and enter the details of any that’s been entered, including name and description of any fish caught. I did purchase a sun visor (after 1st time) to help with any glare the sun may cause, which I also recommend getting. It’s perfect for what I wanted in a FF/DF and the battery it comes with is perfect in that regard due to not needing another big battery to operate it. The life of the battery depends on the use of it. I’ve gotten thru 2 days (12-16 hrs total) of fishing w/o having to charge it. Idk if I could’ve gotten more bcuz I charged after that for my 3rd day out just in case. Very rarely am I overjoyed by a purchase, but I am very happy with this purchase. I highly recommend it for reservoir fishing for anyone like me. It’s called fishing and not catching for a reason. Even tho I can easily afford FFS and have used FFS, I choose not to let what some may say is “progress” ruin what fishing is all about. I mainly use it to find underwater structures, drop offs, and bait balls, and not if fish shows up. I choose to keep laziness out of my outdoors recreation as I also do when it comes to hunting. Using the most technical and newest technology doesn’t show the level of outdoorsman you are, it just shows true outdoorsman who the laziest are!

I bought this item because I wanted a fish finder that I could use in the summer and ice fishing in the winter. All my friends use Vexilar flashers in the winter. I was concerned that the vexilars would create interference for the Garmin or vice versa. I ordered my Garmin after reading the reviews but the description did not indicate if it came with a battery or not and I was going on a fishing trip, so I bought a battery at my local store so I would be ready. I was surprised to find that it came with a battery, so now I own a spare. Last weekend I went fishing with my friends at Lake of the Woods, Mn. and fished in heated ice fishing shacks. There were two people in each shack. I used my Garmin on the flasher mode with the transducer that came with the kit and it worked perfectly. There was minimal interference from the devices used even though we were only about 4 feet apart. We were in heated shacks, so I don't know how the cold would affect this Garmin. I did not need to buy a special transducer. I was able to see the fish and my jig near the bottom of the lake in 22 ft of water. We fished for three days and caught an average of 100 to 120 fish per shack each day. I could not be happier with my Garmin. It worked just as well as the Vexilars that cost over $400 and the Garmin is more versatile. I did not have to change the battery at all using it for 10 hours each day for 3 days. I can't wait to try this out this summer fishing from my small boat.

I've been fishing my whole life, but just started getting into ice fishing this past year, now that my family has a cabin on a lake worthy of ice fishing. As anyone who participates in ice fishing, you know everything is pretty pricey when it comes to gear. I didn't have the money to spend $350-450 on a vexlar. After doing a lot of research, I decided to try this Garmin Striker 4 portable kit. I still have a lot of learning to do, but I am very happy with it thus far. I can mark fish and know what i'm looking at. There are so many setting's to help you know what you're looking for, you just have to play around and find out what works best depending on the body of water you're on. The best part about it is that i can use it on my john boat or kayak in the summer time. The kit comes with everything you need. The transducer it comes with works just fine for ice fishing, you just have to rig it up so it is in the correct position when it sits in your hole (plenty of videos on youtube). I went out and used it non-stop for 6 hours in sub zero weather and the battery held up fine. I just charge it up at home when i'm not using it and you should be good to go. Thus far, i really do not have a single complaint for this product and it's $200.00 price tag.
