  • Huge step up from the RV760
Style: RV 890 Pattern Name: Navigator
I bought this to replace the Garmin RV 760 that I've been using for the last five years. The RV 890 is a major step forward. It's not just a larger and brighter screen. The software has been greatly improved, the user interface is more intuitive, the touch screen is more responsive, the voice recognition is better, and the processor is faster. The windshield suction mount on this thing is a beast, unlike the much smaller one that came with the RV 760 and would constantly lose its grip in warm weather. With its Bluetooth integration to the Garmin Drive app, the RV 890 brings a bunch of new features, including Foursquare integration (a big deal, not because I use Foursquare that much, but because their database contains many POIs that aren't in the Garmin database--allowing the unit to find more POIs than before), routings based on the type of RV (Class A vs. fifth wheel vs. bumper pull), built-in wifi updates, and more. Two of the best new features, though, are the ability to plan, save and retrieve multiple routes in advance--even indoors without a GPS signal--and route shaping, which lets you modify the unit's suggested route to, for example, take a different highway for part of the route without having to resort to "faking it" by entering a city on the desired route as an intermediate waypoint. There are so many more goodies that it will take time to try them all. This was a worthwhile upgrade for sure! ... show more

  • THis GPS Rocks
Style: RV 890 Pattern Name: Navigator
I have a number of GPS units, built in and portable as well as a phone, Ipad and Laptop. This unit is accurate, easy to read and after a reasonable learning curve, easy to operate. I would potentially knock it down form perfect for two reasons, but they are really fairly minor. The voice recognition does not always recognize my voice but few units do. The other is that the suction mount didn't work in my application so I wound up using the permanent base. This unit allows you to plan a trip with multiple stops and pick it up at any intermediate programed stop. It also inserts suggested rest stops based on time/distance. It also has lifetime maps, traffic, and the ability to program remotely using your phone. ... show more

  • It works like a dream. My wife can use it with no problems.
Style: RV 890 Pattern Name: Navigator
I "had" a rand McNally unit and replaced it because it was old though up to date. My heavens what a difference there is. The Garmin is so much easier to use. I approached it with trepidation. but It literally leads me by the nose to what I wanted to do. By all means, Buy this one. I have no complaints. none at all. George W. • Mounting is the issue
Style: RV 890 Pattern Name: Navigator
I got a bad unit, I'm hoping. I'm a fan of Garmin, usually good quality. However my unit failed after charging it and using it about an hour. It just won't turn on anymore. It's going back. Also they packed suction cup mount with a 20mm ball to hold the magnetic interface, which works fine. Then they included another style dash mount to screw on and it's got a 25mm ball that won't work with the magnetic mount, which requires a 20mm ball. Really a screwy shipment. It all looked new, but it's a bad shipment. I'll try again. ... show more

  • Very Expensive Android Tablet
Style: RV 890 Pattern Name: Navigator
I sent mine back after the first time I used it. I have been using RV Life on a designated tablet. I thought the Garmin RV 890 would be more user friendly for planning routes and up loading routes from other devices. The RV 890 is only a mid-grade android tablet running the Garmin software. I spent hours on the device trying to upload .gpx routes with no luck. Garmin tech help couldn’t help and as I searched online I noticed it’s a problem others are having too. Save your money, buy a nice tablet, download RV Life app pay for the membership. You will get a better user interface, online and offline mapping and run your favorite music apps. This is not worth the $490+. Sorry Garmin! ... show more

  • Great for trip planning
Style: RV 890 Pattern Name: Navigator
product as described, arrived on time, this is the best Garmin I have seen with free updates, trip planning for an RV takes into account the size for routing, great amount of data about camp sites.

  • Disappointed
Style: RV 890 Pattern Name: Navigator
I chose this GPS based on some great reviews. I wanted a GPS that would account for the dimensions of my RV and develop routes to specifically avoid dangers like low clearance bridges. The 1st time I used it to begin planning a trip, I ran into a serious issue. The calculated route included a bridge with a 12' clearance. My RV requires a 13' clearance. A call to Garmin confirmed that I had entered the correct dimensions for my RV and the GPS should have accounted for this -- it didn't. Fortunately, the campground confirmation email included directions to avoid the route the Garmin 890 had proposed. I tried some other RV trip planning software and each one avoided the route suggested by the Garmin 890. When I spoke to the Garmin rep, she indicated that she would file a discrepancy report with their developers. I asked her if they would provide me any feedback -- she said no. I lost all confidence in this device and I have since returned it. This may have been a one-off situation, but I wasn't willing to take the chance and use it for other trips. ... show more
