  • Great for pilot's, athletes, or just athletic pilots trying to keep their medical
As a pilot I have been been wearing another brand from 2004 which is HEAVY and the E6B is impossible to read in flight. But it looks cool! This watch is nice with both leather and silicone bands. I prefer the silicone one. It looks good, watch face mimics elegant watches and is effective for pilots, it is lightweight, not as large as previous D2's I was looking at, and does exactly what I want. Receiving texts, emails, and other notifications on the watch with vibration is very helpful. I could not feel my phone vibrate and did not always hear it (I know my wife said the same thing!). I bought this more for the smart watch features including what it displays for pilots like METAR's, PulseOx, and of course GPS. I do not need the map that the larger D2's have as I fly with phone (ADSB), iPad (ADSB), and have panel mount GPS. I also bought this for the heart rate as I am getting older. Have not flown with it yet but have been running, walking, and hiking. Used my Amazon Music connection to download music to the watch and connected my bluetooth headset to the watch. Went running without carrying my phone for the first time ever and it was nice! GPS worked well. GPS was intermittent when hiking in wooded and hilly area which was expected (phone GPS did the same) but it still seemed to map my entire route. And all activities sync up fine when you get near the phone again. Had some issues with the "B" button not working when I wanted to update widgets. May have been that it needed a system update which it updated during my first charge. I have been wearing it 24x7 and the two time I took it off it updated. Since then "B" has worked fine. Although I prefer updating widgets via the phone. Still getting accustomed to the sensors but the body battery always low (even in the morning). Not sure if that is due to fitment and incorrect readings. It does ask me to stay still for Stress readings at least 1-3 times per day. It also shows more stress than I expected...loved that! Will update after flying but so far it has been a helpful gadget for this athletic pilot! ... show more

  • nice design, the battery can last longer if have larger battery capacity
As a 777 pilot, I find this watch very useful and during the flight, it is recommended the flight tracing GPS function be turned off to prolong the battery life. I do own a D2 delta PX which cost 1bout 1000 MSRP, the D2 delta is way too larger and heavier, however, the battery can last longer, it is more suitable for general aviation. for the commercial flight, I recommend this watch for its fair price and easy-to-use feature. it is light and at a suitable price compare to the D2 delta PX. it can show both Zulu time and local time at the same time which is very useful. If for me to choose again between D2 delta and air, I would definitely choose the air. I am now planning to sell my D2 delta PX since I find a better everyday and aviation watch. It can meet both requirements. However, I would recommend that the glass of the watch face can be sapphire glass which can be more anti scratch. ... show more

  • Light weight, Heavy features
Great watch! I decided it was time for an upgrade from wearing Fitbits for the last 5 years an am not disappointed. Has lots of features but fairly simple navigation. Had an issue making Spotify work but found a solution in Settings-Music-Providers and worked perfectly.

  • Great smart watch ... minor issues with the app and appearance
I waited a while for the D2 since I really didn't want to spend much more for a smart watch. I've used Garmin fitness watches before and they've all been excellent hardware platforms with great "on watch" functionality. This one is no exception. Plus it does exactly what I want as a pilot: This watch tracks your pulse and blood oxygen levels while you fly and it matches the readings against your flight - particularly against altitude (very important in an unpressurized aircraft). This is a great way to watch your O2 and stress levels while acting as a pilot in command. It also allows for alarms to be set based on trigger levels for heart rate and/or O2 saturation - and the alarm vibrates the watch so you can't ignore it. Of course, it also tracks everything else about flying. What's more, it switches into flight tracking mode automatically when it decides you are flying (velocity and altitude triggers). It will also pair with Garmin's flight planning software and systems. The on-watch software works very well with an easy to use interface - exactly what a user needs. So why down a star? Two reasons: I have no idea why the designers at Garmin thought a chrome ring around the watch face was a good idea. Apparently it is not available with any other choice - and flat black would have been much better looking IMHO. More importantly, the latest app from Garmin (Garmin Connect) is really quite painful in terms of popping up questions such as "do you want a Garmin coach?" or "would you like to complete the set up of Garmin Pay?". Ask me once, that's fine. Ask me again and again, that's not fine at all. That's annoying. I don't need a Garmin coach and I certainly do not want Garmin involved in any payment processes with my credit cards - that's just a potential security breach waiting to happen. Garmin should, in particular, stay out of financial transactions (IMHO). No matter what, as a user, when I say "no", I do NOT need to be asked over and over again. Hopefully someone at Garmin will read this and take note ... Other than those two points, I think this is a great device for anyone and an awesome device for pilots. ... show more

  • Good for workouts and flights.
Set your home airport and get all info at your fingertips. It will automatically start logging a flight when it senses an altitude change, but if you want complete data, start logging manually. You do need your phone connected at all times for full functionality and the Garmin Connect app needs to be running in the background. I also use it a lot for workouts: I enjoy the body stats. I use it for sleep monitoring too: interesting to see the REM, deep and light sleep phases. Overall, I’m enjoying this watch a lot as it notifies me of emails, texts, calls, etc. which is great for work while on the move. One thing I can’t review is the navigation functionality since I haven’t tried that yet. ... show more
