  • Very Nice Set
Color: Black
I recently purchased the Gammon Percussion Full Size Complete Adult 5-Piece Drum Set, and I couldn't be happier with my choice! As someone who has been playing drums for a while but needed a budget-friendly option, this set exceeded my expectations. Assembly: The assembly process was straightforward, and the instructions were easy to follow. It took me about an hour to set everything up. All the necessary tools were included, which was a nice touch. Quality: For the price, the quality is impressive. The drums have a solid feel, and the hardware is sturdy. The cymbals might not be top-of-the-line, but they are decent for practice and beginner playing. The drumheads also provide a satisfying sound, especially after a bit of tuning. Playability: This set is perfect for both beginners and intermediate players. The response from the drums is great, and they hold their tuning quite well. The included stool is comfortable, and the stands are adjustable to fit players of various heights. Value: You get a full drum set at an unbeatable price, which is perfect for anyone looking to get started or needing a practice kit. It's a complete package with everything you need to start playing right away. Overall, the Gammon Percussion 5-Piece Drum Set offers excellent value for the money. If you're a beginner or looking for an affordable set to practice on, this is a fantastic choice. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Great drums, Great customer service!
Color: Red
Great beginner drum set, my husband loves it. Comes with 5 drums, a symbol, a high hat, as well as a stool. I believe i'm not the drummer. And some issues with delivery as the base drum came cracked, but customer service responded in a timely manner and resolved my issues happily. The setup was relatively easy and we are overall very happy. 5/5. ... show more

  • What makes this drum set for beginners?
Color: Black
What makes this drum set for beginners? (ie.What makes this drum set around $300 instead of $3,000?) I was wondering about that very question before I purchased this set. Well, the drum heads are made of some thinner looking plastic material (not the regular mylar plastic for the professional drums?). That sort of disappointed me because I wanted to practice on drums closer to the more expensive ones we have at school. The cymbals sound more like tin cans than the nice vibrating crashing sound we get from the cymbals at school, but you can buy new cymbals and exchange the ones this comes with. (I wonder if I can also buy the better drum heads in the future and replace the ones this comes with) The bass drum vibrates (again different from the more professional bass drum at school). Anyway, that's what makes this more for beginners, it uses cheaper material than the professional one. But if you are a beginner, it's a good buy for the price. (Or you can buy an electric drum set like the Ion which you can also use for Rock Band. That one's got everything as well and you can lower the volume so neighbors don't hear you.) Update: I'm really glad we purchased this drum set. I have been playing every day (2-3 hours per day) and it's awesome. The sound of the cymbals still bother me a little, I know I like to replace them with the nicer ones Zildjian 14-Inch ZBT Rock Hi-Hats Cymbal Pair like the ones we play at school. The bass drum stopped vibrating and it's terrific. We're using Vic Firth Cymbal Pack w/ 10, 12, 14(2), 22, Hi-hat and Cymbals to keep the sound down and that's working well for us. Everything works, it's helping me practice, awesome for the price! Update to my Update: It's Feb. 27, 2011, about 7 mo's since I got this drum set and I love it even more now. I have replaced the hi hats and ride/crash cymbals with a Zildjian 22" and a Sabian 14". And when my drum teacher came by the other day and played it, he gave it 2 thumbs up. I mean, that's my drum teacher. He just said, "put a pillow inside the bass drum otherwise it's all good." He added that the hardware (screws, nuts, bolts) aren't as high quality as the more professional ones but if I'm not hauling it to gigs anyway, if it's just going to stay in one place then it's perfectly fine. So, there you go, it's drum-teacher-approved, replacing the drum heads is unnecessary, good luck to all you drummers out there--drumming on this set is FUN!!! p.s. My drum teacher did suggest I get a second Ride Cymbal (like an 18" since different size cymbals produce different sounds) ... show more

  • Great Starter Set
Color: Black
After my son started drum lessons and had completed 4 or 5 lessons, his instructor said it was time to get him a drum kit. Nothing was available used. My son actually found this set on Amazon, but I was a bit skeptical. After I read all the reviews, I was still a bit leary, so I asked my son's instructor after showing him this set. He liked it and thought the price was difficult to beat. I bought it. The boxes (there were two) arrived very quickly, and the contents were completely undamaged. One has to build these drums (5 in all, something I had never done before). Now, I build R/C aircraft of all types, so I was not too intimidated. I got my son to assist, mainly so he would learn how they went together, as well. It took about 2 hours to build the entire set, the stands for the cymbal and high hat, and the stool. Everything went together properly; we followed the single page (front and back) of instructions and used the supplied 'key' to tighten all the hold-downs (there are a LOT of them!) for the skins. After it was all put together, my son's instructor offered to 'tune' each drum one at a time per session. So far, the snare and the base drums have been tuned, and they sound fantastic. The 3 toms will get tuned one at a time next. The high hats and the larger cymbal will be replaced eventually for better sounding units, but the kit is quite complete and works extremly well. It makes an excellent beginning set that can be updated and added to as needed. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this purchase. It was a relatively small amount of money to get started effectively (especially when you compare what video games and DS games cost these days). My son is tickled and happy he can progress properly with his developing skills. However, I'm afraid I will need to get him to set up in the garage once the weather warms up a bit; these are a lot louder than I expected (I guess that's a good thing!). Super buy; Super service! Quite happy! ... show more

  • We Got More Then Just Great Drums, We got 100 % Service/Support With Musicians Discount Warehouse
Color: Blue
I have never met a more friendly company on Amazon as Musicians Discount Warehouse. I needed to have this delivered on a certain date. I got in contact with them, and within 2 hrs we were in touch. They told me when would be the best date to order it, they said to let them know as soon as I place so they could watch out for it and be sure it got sent. Very friendly. Very helpful and a whole lot more. Now for the drums itself, wow it came to the exact date as they said. Well wrapped for protection. We gave this to a church, so it took a while to check it all out. Everything was inside, great shape. Once the church set it up, we went to see it. Everyone was very happy with it. The blue was a great match. The drummer about 14 who likes to beat the beat, said it was very easy to set up and fine tune. For use in a church the song stays strong, does not over bear the hearing at all. With a chior, it matched just perfect, did not drown the chior out. No matter what the drums may be used for, I think you will be very happy about them. Now that the Pastor is vetry happy and proud to have them in his church. he asked me if we could find a 4 string bass guiltar, well Musicians Discount Warehouse has just the ones they are looking for. We are placing our order for it today, and we are sure they will give us great service and it will be a great product just as the drunms were. Last issue, during our contacts with Musicians Discount Warehouse, they told me if I ever need help with them, or have a problem they will do whatever it takes to solve the issue. Now that is better then any price you pay for an item, service / support number 1 in my books. One last thing the church members say God Bless to you all at Musicians Discount Warehouse, they waited 4 years to find a good deal on drums, glad we could help some. ... show more

  • So far, great purchase
Color: Blue
I purchased this set for my 8 year old son for Christmas. He has taken drum lessons and wants to continue - we needed a set for him to learn and practice on. This was the least expensive set I found with decent reviews. My husband put the set together in about 2 hours on Christmas Eve, with no prior knowledge of drums at all. He had some trouble with the high hat - still not working quite right, but I think it's assembly error rather than anything wrong with the product. The drums sound great to us - we aren't musicians and aren't expecting a performance quality product for the money. I think these are perfect for learning and practice. Other reviewers have complained about the cymbals. They do seem a little bit flimsy, but I think they sound fine for a kid practicing in the basement. The price was great. I honestly didn't check in local music stores, so maybe I could have gotten a better deal. The addded shipping cost kind of ruined the super deal the drums seemed to be. However, the set arrived in only a few days time. It came in two large and somewhat heavy boxes. There's no picture on the box, but it says "drum kit" on the outside. Gift givers beware if you want a surprise. My brother-in-law is a drummer and suggested we get mutes for the drums and bamboo sticks to help keep the noise down, or that we wouldn't be able to be in the same room when my son was playing. He was right. We were able to get mutes for only 2 of the drums before the holiday. They make a huge difference and we'll be getting them for the rest of the drums. We've only had the drums for a week, but my son loves them. I love them, too! The set came with everything you need including a pair of sticks and the "throne". Everything is very adjustable - great because a junior set is too small for my son. This is a full size set but can be adjusted so my 8 yr old can use it. I'm happy that it will grow with him. Some reviewers complained about the seat, saying it wasn't sturdy. Seems fine to me. I think we might all take up drumming. ... show more

  • For a first set I highly recommend
Color: Blue
The outside of the box came in a little beat up so I was worried about the drums. Opened everything up it was wrapped extremely well, the quality of the product is really good. Overall I'm extremely satisfied and having a blast with the drums. Oh and the shipping was lighting fast! It came in 2 days ahead of schedule! Could not be happier and love the color ... show more

  • Sound Quality of The Drums Are Good, Sound Quality of Cymbals Are Horrible (Full Pros and Cons List)
Color: Blue
The drum set was okay. It is not the best, and not the worst. Here is a list of pro's and cons. PLEASE consider the following before buying the set. Pros: 1. Good beginner set 2. Good hardware (shells, heads, hoops, ext.) 3. The fact that it is a complete 5-piece adult sized drum set 4. Sticks, pedal, and stool included 5. Sound quality of the drums are good 6. Floor tom head is fantastic Cons: 1. The snare drum has a horrible ring to it that no matter what you do to fix it, it doesn't go away. (I have placed a hand towel over it and the ring dies down only a little bit 2. Assembly video it came with was horrible, it had very little instructions, they expected you to understand what all of these things mean. (Lug, tension rod, drum claw, ext.) 3. Paper instructions were horrible, it had little to no instructions on how to set up the drum set 4. Cymbal quality is absolutely horrible. The hi-hat's don't close all the way and sound more like a crash cymbal when separated (compared to a Sabian or a Mienl) 5. Crash cymbal is horrible. I use the top hi-hat as a crash cymbal because it sounds so much better than the original crash cymbal (compared to a Sabian or a Mienl) 6. Shipping wasn't worth the 60 dollars. When I unboxed the bass drum pedal, one of the things that you put under the base drum came off which now makes it shake when I push down the pedal. 7. Only half of the plastic bags which held the cymbal stands, bass and floor tom legs, and stool stand, were completely sealed on both sides, and the ones that were sealed with a staple could be broken with little to no effort. 8. The sticks that originally came with the set were not glossed like professional sticks and after a few hits to the hi-hat, huge wood chips were coming off of them. (A little under two hours they were in the garbage) What You Will Need To Buy: 1. New Cymbals to replace the original ones, both the hi-hat pair and the crash cymbal (I highly consider getting either a Sabian, or a Mienl) (I also highly consider buying yourself a ride cymbal) 2. New drum sticks (Make sure they are glossed and cost no less than $4) 3. Possibly new snare drum or heads (Depending if you can tolerate the annoying ringing) (If you are considering getting new heads, I highly recommend any heads made by Remo, our local high school marching band uses Remo heads and they sound phenomenal) 4. Possibly new heads for both the high and low tom drums (The floor tom head sounds fantastic) (Again I recommend Remo heads) 5. If you are a tall person, a new stool Overall the set is not worth the amount of money I paid for. But if you are looking for an average quality set under $250 dollars then this is the one to get! If they are asking for $220 (excluding shipping) they should lower the price down to about $150-$175 due to the horrible sounding cymbals. Again please consider the pros and cons about this set, and if you are willing to tolerate the cons, then go ahead and buy it! There aren't that many good quality drum sets out there for under $250. Good luck and happy shopping! ... show more
