Just ordered my second one. Just began rotational grazing with the cattle and didn't want to buy two and once until I could try it out. Well designed and very happy I got one that was geared. The reel has been a God send and made my life much easier.

I do rotational grazing with cattle, and have several of these fence reels. They are much, much better than the cheaper economy fence reel Gallagher also sells. I also got one of those to try, and only use it if all of my good geared versions are in use. (And I curse it every time I have to use it!). These geared reels are easy to use and have held up very well for 3 years so far on the oldest ones I have. They're a little pricey, but well worth the extra initial investment. I use them with Gallagher's Turbo Wire, and am pleased with the combination. ... show more

My family has been intensive strip grazing since the late 90s with dairy and beef animals. We have tried several companies but mainly Speedrite and Gallagher's. The Gallagher reels are at least a couple steps above Speedrite. Typically the Gallagher reels last longer both in internal mechanisms and in being dropped into the pasture vehicle and bounced around. The Speedrite reels tend to break up especially the early days when we were purchasing the cheaper econo reels and non-geared reels. We still use the econo and non geared reels but only for fences we aren't moving every day. (Temporary lanes, boundaries etc). The gear makes an amazing difference in speed of rolling and also the strain on your arm while rolling. So much nicer! Giving 4 stars because the orange plastic guide is a nusciance (we removed them from all our reels) and the handle on the crank is stiff. It would be nice if it turned more freely while cranking rather than letting it slide inside your grip or clamping down on it enough to force it to rotate on the crank arm. Neither are a big impediment to functioning. A+ to Gallagher for their innovative fence handle (included) and the locking mechanism that keeps the reel from being knocked off the wire it is attached to. Great reels, will definitely purchase more as needed. ... show more

We have been rotational grazing cattle for several years and used may brands of reels and wire. This reel is hands down the best in functionality and is way more durable than other brands we've tried. We have some reels that are 7 years old.
