  • Cop-a-Squat Why Dont-cha!
I've borrowed my co workers Gaiam Balance Ball Chair when she's been out of the office. I just loved it immediately, less back paid, less pressure on my legs and helped with my posture. I just had to get one for myself. It arrived today!!! Like a kid on Christmas I tossed my old uncomfortable office chair to the side and immediately put this together. I like the pop of color the green has....so that's about all the positives I can give. Assemble of the chair was very quick and simple. Inflating the ball however, with that ridiculous pump thing, I had to go into a conference room to put air in it. (just not appropriate to do while sitting at your office desk) The ball.....the ball is inflated to the max I didn't want to pop it. I placed it in the chair and it was like dropping a beach ball into it. This ball is SOOOOOO freaking small when I sat on it I could just about sit Indian Style on the floor!! I'm 5'10 about 150lbs. I immediately rolled it to the side and grabbed my neighbors ball and I'm sitting here typing this review in comfort. UPDATE 6/9/15: okay so I called Gaiam customer service about replacing the ball and was told to just give it a couple days to expand to it's full size. So today (day two) I came in and inflated more.....to my SURPRISE it's not perfect IT"S BETTER. I'm high yet still able to lean back on the back rest comfortably. This goes from 2 stars to 5 in my book. I couldn't believe it. If you think its to small on the initial opening let it sit in a warm space over night and then add more air......you'll be pleasantly surprised. Everyone at work is taking triple looks at my comfy, supportive, fun colored, new office chair! Love it. They should put a disclaimer in the description so people know what to expect. would have been helpful for me. Considering it? Go for it!!! Since I had it shipped to the office I don't know if I should return all of it or go in search of an adult sized ball. I did some digging and I see there are different sized balls on Amazon sold separately for 19.99. Seriously?! How do I just exchange the ball?! Hello, AMAZON? Anyone out there? I've spent allot of money on this site at least deliver the items pictured. The lady in the picture isn't squatting on the floor she's at desk level. ... show more

  • Nice quality
Color: Charcoal
I've sat on yoga balls for years and this is the first time I'm trying a chair. These used to be really common around 200, but now they're bing phased out. This was a good buy for the money I paid for it. The assembly was supper easy and. maintenance is minimal. The chair is very stable making it really hard to fall off of it which is a concern with yoga ball. I put roller skate chair which makes it move easily.. ... show more

  • Satisfied so Far!
Overall, this product is functioning as expected with no issues. I have had the chair for about a month now and so far so good! You may see in other reviews that the metal support bar has snapped or the chair feet have crushed in - I can see how this would happen if you are sitting down on the chair too aggressively or if the ball is over-inflated and is putting too much pressure on the support bar. The chair frame and support bar are not made of the most sturdy materials but if you are gentle with the chair and are careful to sit down slowly on it - you shouldn't have any issues with these pieces breaking. I have had other balance balls that I have used and was a little worried about the ball being too small after seeing other reviews. I'll be honest - it does look very small when you inflate it!! This is normal and I promise that it will fit in the frame and be tall enough for you to sit comfortably at your desk. While the parts are not the most heavy duty - the ball itself seems to be of high quality and is durable so far. I only gave the chair four stars due to the lower quality of the parts/design for the support bar. My experience using and sitting on the chair gets five stars though! I bought this due to lower back pain and discomfort sitting in a desk chair all day and this has helped me with my posture and pain so far. If you are weary of buying the chair due to the pieces breaking (as I was before buying) just remember to be gentle with the chair and not to put too much tension on the support bar by over-inflating the ball! ... show more

  • Best desk chair I’ve had at 1/10 the price
Color: Charcoal
This thing is great and has been a more comfortable and generally healthier desk chair than I’ve ever had. I have a nice $800 chair that was killing me, given that I spend up to 10 hours a day at my desk and have spine problems. This was the perfect solution. Definitely follow the instructions on the 24 hour initial blow up and then doing it again - the ball needs to be stretched. I have only had to reinflate it twice in about three months and the first time was a week in, and I think it was still because the ball was stretching that time. I have even found ways to use it for my PT exercises, but the main use has saved me so much pain and discomfort. The only criticism I have is that the inflation device that comes with it is difficult to use and leaks when you get close to fully inflated, making it harder to get it to the size that it needs to be. But I purchased an electric inflation device because I am disabled and could not really get it done with the hand one and that solved the problem. My IT guy was here for two hours, told me he was just going to try it and then use the regular chair. At the end of the 2 hours, he was still on the yoga ball and asked me where I got it and how much it was at the end of it because he wanted to purchase one himself. Given that a normal desk chair will run you upwards of $500 for an uncomfortable one that won’t last, this is more than worth the price. ... show more

  • Never Going Back to a Standard Office Chair
I work in a vacation rentals call center and work a lot of overtime in the busy season, sometimes sitting 8-12 hours a day almost non-stop. Sitting so long in the uncomfortable office chairs provided at my job was causing my neck and lower back to ache constantly, so I bit the bullet and ordered this chair. I've been using it regularly for exactly one month now and couldn't be happier! The back and neck aches are gone, my core feels stronger, and I feel like I'm 24 again (which is fantastic, considering that IS my chronological age). I refuse to sit in a standard office chair ever again. More than this, though, it helps me keep my adult ADHD in check by allowing me to bounce, rock side-to-side, and otherwise fidget without disturbing my callers or those around me. I can focus better, and often wake up with a little soreness to my core the next morning from my impromptu 'workout', depending how much movement I did in the chair the day before (a huge plus for a sedentary worker such as myself). This chair would be a godsend for any child with ADD or ADHD--I wish I had had one when I was a kid. Aside from the practical perks, it's just plain cute! My coworkers and boss think it's the coolest thing they've ever seen--in fact, my boss was so enthralled by mine that he's looking into one of his own! I am 5'2", actually a bit shorter than the ideal chair-user, but have not noticed any problems due to this (other than the occasional quizzical glance from a coworker as I scoot and wiggle my way into the proper sitting position). I did slip off the ball twice in one day, but that was a direct result of the fabric of the dress I was wearing at the time, and would easily be remedied by the purchase of a cover for the ball. Thus far, I have nothing negative to say about my beloved "Bouncy Chair". In fact, if I ever set up a home office for myself, I'm getting another--guaranteed! ... show more

  • Good concept; OK chair
---- Ball Chair Concept in General: (4 stars) ---- As far as the ball chair concept in general, I like it. I started using this chair almost 7 ago and I do think it has helped with posture and strengthening my back. I’ve had trouble with back and neck pain for years due to my job and sitting and typing at a computer all day. It hasn’t completely relieved the back and neck pain but it seems to have helped. As a side note for those who might have similar issues, for me, jogging a mile or so 2 to 4 times a week is really what helps me the most. It took, maybe, a month to build up to sitting in this chair all day. The first week I couple probably 15 minutes at a time for about two hours, then back to regular chair. Now I’ll do most of the day but switch out now and then if I’m getting tired. But I sit for hours at a time, I’m not up and down. ---- This Specific Ball Chair: (3 stars) ---- It’s fine but not great and there seems be some issues with consistency. I’ve been using the same chair for about 7 months without an issue. I bought two chairs, one with a black ball and one with green because I was going to give one away. I set up the first chair no problem but on the second chair ran into an issue with the front support bar. The nuts that came with the chair didn’t match the bar (different threads). I thought I was doing something wrong but since I had another chair I was able to confirm the nuts were faulty. No big deal, I’ve been using the chair without the bar and it seems fine. I pumped up the green ball first. It was really stiff and I had to struggle to get it pumped up, then let it sit overnight, then pump it up more, then let it sit overnight, and finally get it to the right size. It seemed like it would pop but I just kept pumping. The black ball was completely different, it was so easy to pump up I didn’t have to let it sit overnight and I actually pumped it up more than I needed to without even struggling so then had to let some air out. The black ball was so much softer to sit on, as well. It’s been almost 7 months and the green ball, while it has softened some, is not as soft as the black ball right out of the box! I read another review where someone had two chairs and their green ball was the soft one. So I don’t know how consistent my experience will be with others. I would like to see more quality checks and consistency. ... show more

  • Initial Impressions
I will update if my impressions change later. This item arrived quickly and was quite easy to put together following the instructions. The hardest part was blowing up the ball, for the nozzle of the air pump really did NOT want to fit into the hole for the ball. The directions also state not to blow the ball up larger than a certain measurement, but did not supply a measuring tool. This would be simply remedied by supplying a ribbon of paper or plastic in the length of diameter that the ball should not exceed. I did follow the protocol of filling it, letting it sit for a few hours, and then filling it more to make it easier as it got hard at the end, and a good bit of air was constantly coming OUT of the pump they provided. I'm not sure if my pump was defective or everyone deals with this. The brakes, yeah the brakes flip to locked REALLY easily. Simple solution would be to put the two wheels with the locking ability on the rearside of the chair instead of the front. No big deal. I was under the impression from the description on amazon that the chair comes with that backside piece as a backrest, but the instructions in the box CLEARLY state that it is not strong enough for that purpose and is meant for stability when performing exercises. I bought this chair to use as an office desk chair as advised by my chiropractor. The ball allows for some lower back and pelvic movement and will hopefully keep my back happier than my standard chair. I love that it doesn't have armrests. Those only get in the way. I'm very comfortable sitting here as I write this, slowly teetering back and forth. The base adds a level of stability that I appreciate. I already wish I had paid more for the swivel base, but the reviews for the swivel base showed many issues with breaking. All in all I'm satisfied with my purchase and hope to get good use out of this. ... show more

  • Inflate and wait, then inflate some more
Color: Cool Grey
I was reading the reviews going back to 2020 and had to wonder why some people had great experiences and some don't with the ball size. So I was really anxious about my item when it arrived. Set up of the chair was easy though I needed some assistance to hold the base while pushing in the seat back. This was a little difficult as I couldn't tell when it is properly inserted given the gap in the back of the base. But the 2 holding screws turned and tightened so I guess I inserted sufficiently. I set up the seat back first (contrary to the instructions, I did step 2 first, then step 1), then flipped the base upside down over a cushioned chair to install the 4 wheels for the feet. The pump that came with the kit wasn't great, you can feel air escaping as you pump air into the ball beyond a certain size but just keep pumping, it does work to inflate the ball. Follow the instructions!!!!! THAT IS KEY. First inflation, the ball got to about 42cm. See first photo. That's the same picture where a lot of people just stopped and wrote a review complaining the ball is not the right size. You have to let the ball rest and stretch. I waited over night and the next morning, deflated 50% and re-inflate to 47cm. It was a bit hard as air was almost escaping as fast as I was inflating, almost. I waited a few more hours, deflated the ball and then re-inflated the ball again. When I measured, it was 53cm, I deflated it slightly AND VOILA. Check out the second picture. PERFECT. The ball will feel like it's going to burst, it won't, you will know it's almost there when nearly all the folded creases of the ball has disappeared. The instructions say 52cm is 21.5", that is wrong, it's 20.5". Follow the 52cm number. The ball is comfortable to sit on though is a bit scary because I feel the ball might pop. I hope it doesn't. The seat back is not there to provide any back support at all, so you can't lean back on it as it's too far away and you'll likely fall off. I am about 5', so sitting on the chair, my feet doesn't rest completely flat on the ground, I might have to deflate the ball slightly. Will update this review after a few days use, as needed. ... show more
