    • The smell was awful, but after my modifications I love it!
When I got finished modifying it was great. My first problem was the smell, chemicals in the press board were making me I'll as it was very close to my head while sleeping. So I primered the entire unit with wood primer, which did not want to adhere to the black surface, after 3 or 4 coats it finally did and the smell was sealed in. However one of the pre-drilled hole wasn't straight so the fastener bust the side out and the top third came off. So I put glue on the edges and clamped it with large bar clamps. The I cut a piece of masonite to fit the entire back and glued it to the backs on it and nailed it with many 1" Brad's. Then just to make sure, I toe-nailed 3 more brads into each of the joints on the front, set, puttied and painted they're hardly noticible. NOW I love my media cabinet. ... show more

    • Compressed wood is garbage!
I purchased this storage tower for dvd and cd storage. The assembly instructions arent that clear as to where the hardware goes in conjunction with the smooth edges of the tower, but I figured that out. It was going well...I got all the way to nailing the backs on when I realized that each tier had completely pulled apart from the unit because the compressed wood (used to make the unit) crumbled all around the hardware. So basically, the unit did not survive the assembly because the wood is garbage. The bottom piece is longer than the top, so if you hammer the nails in with the unit face down as pictured in the instructions, the hardware tears its way right out of that soft wood. Luckily, I had some small, metal brackets from the Dollar store. I used 8 of them to put the unit back together. That made it really sturdy. I know from experience that the plastic shelf holders that came with the unit tend to buckle under the weight of cds and dvds, so I replaced them with metal shelf holders that I had left over from various book shelves and other storage towers in my home. I would NOT recommend this cheaply manufactured storage tower. ... show more

    • Turns out Great if you take your time.
I was a little concerned about how sturdy it would be while I was putting it together, but once the back was nailed on it felt a lot better, and after the shelves are filled with music and movies it's fine. Comes with an anchor if you're worried about toddlers trying to climb it and having it fall on them. Instructions take a minute to understand, it's just pictures with no words and not quite as simple as other furniture I've ordered recently. I was initially disappointed that it was MDF and not metal like the Huuger items, but it seems to be okay as long as you take your time and don't abuse it. Will probably order another one or two, still deciding how much physical media to keep and how much to toss. ... show more

I never leave reviews but in this case I felt compelled to leave one. Let me start by saying I've been looking for a shelf for weeks to house my game collection and my criteria for a shelf was a bit outlandish to say the least. I needed something that didn't take up too much space but at the same time had a lot of space on it, quite ridiculous now that I'm seeing it written out. I also needed the shelf to have many shelf's on it and I needed/ wanted the space between the shelves to be no more than 6 inches and no less than 5. Then finally I needed this unicorn of a shelf I was looking for to be affordable or preferably cheap if possible. My search was running thin and I was on the verge of giving up until I came across this diamond in the rough. It was exactly perfect in every way I needed it to be almost too good to be true, then I read the reviews.... About 80% of the reviews we're just completely trashing this thing. Calling it junk, useless, not worth the money, anything you can think of. Honestly I felt like I could relate to this shelf. I thought about it for about a day maybe less then decided well if this thing does suck I guess I can just return it, I mean it's super cheap anyway. I just got it today and I love it so much, I couldn't of found a more perfect shelf for what I needed. Now that doesn't mean it is the perfect shelf period, it just means it's perfect for what I need it for. I can see how it wouldn't be suitable for some who need something more sturdy or bigger or whatever the case may be. But like I said I needed a shelf for a certain size of box for the games I have and this shelf rose to the occasion. This thing is the definition of 'you get what you pay for' but it meets every need on my impossible checklist. So with all that being said it is a great shelf for me but that doesn't mean it didn't come with some issues, albeit minor, but issues nonetheless. It does have trouble staying upright sturdy but they give you stuff to help with that. The directions could have been a bit more straightforward but I was able to get the job done so it's okay. Other than that I really don't have too much to complain about at the moment. I posted a few pictures to show how perfect it is for what I need. In closing just make sure you double triple quadruple check all specs dimensions length width everything before you purchase otherwise you're gonna have a bad time ... show more
