Table saw ripping

  • Great blade at a price that won't break the bank
Let me start off first by saying I am not a professional carpenter or wood worker by any stretch of the imagination, more like a hobbyist and that's stretching it a lot. I took wood shop in high school and that was 30 years ago. but I've tinkered over the years but in the last year or so I've been trying to get back into wood working, so I bought me a table saw and some other tools, andl I'm in the middle of making a project for my wife and I never give the saw blade that came with the saw much thought it was brand new and it felt sharp so I started using it, and I'm cutting red oak so it's a hard wood not super hard but it's not pine either and I noticed after about 10 maybe 15 cuts I was having to push a little harder and was getting light burn marks, so I started looking around for a new blade so I bought a dewalt blade it's a little better but I still wasn't impressed,so I started looking on wood worker forums and the general consensus was that the majority of people were using freud diablo blades.I didn't know a lot about freud but I knew enough to know that their blades were around 60 to 75 dollars and I was a tight wad and didn't want to spend that much on a blade. my attitude was literally how much better can one blade be over another just because of price. Well about a month ago I was surfing around on Amazon and came across a Freud blade and it was under 40 bucks so I got curious and started reading the reviews and they were talking about how sharp they were and how accurate they were and how long they lasted and how much quiter they were so I thought it's not much more than the dewalt blade I bought. I got it really fast as always with Amazon Prime shipping as soon as I got it I went to my shop and installed it and started making test cuts on some scrap and let me just say OMG Freud has a reputation for being one of the best blades on the market for a reason they earned it.. this blade was so sharp it cut through that scrap oak literally like a knief through butter the effort it took to push the wood through my saw was so much easier than it was with my stock blade even better than the dewalt. I can't attest to the longevity yet because I haven't had it very long but from what I've read you can sharpen this blade over and over I think you can even send it to freud and they will sharpen it don't know what that would cost but it would be worth it. And the last thing I noticed is the sound level this blade is so quite I couldn't believe it just with it spinning on the saw not cutting its so quite and when you're cutting it is so noticeably quite compared to a stock saw blade or one's of lesser expense. I was so impressed that I bought a 2nd Freud except the second one is for cross cut. I could go on for a long time about this blade bottom line is you're getting a great quality blade for a really decent price it's sharp it's quite and most likely will last you twice as long as the cheaper ones will. I love this blade ... show more

  • Best all around saw blade I’ve ever used.
I thought my saw was under powered until I changed to this blade. I cleaned & sharpened my existing carbide blades and this one ran circles around them then I thought, we’ll it probably won’t give a clean cross cut, but it does! I can’t find anything wrong with this blade. I had the same experience with the Diablo reciprocating saw blade, also incredible. I’m sticking with Diablo from now on. ... show more

  • Handles thick material on job site saw
I used this blade to rip rough sawn green 4 quarters hardwood, pressure treated 2x8 lumber and rough sawn 8 quarters pine on a dewalt job site table saw. Cut was smooth and thin kerf allowed the saw not to struggle. Bogged down a bit when the feed rate was too high, but easily corrected by reducing feed rate. Would not be a good glue line rip, but that is not what it is designed for. Good value blade. ... show more

  • What I expected
It’s not the best blade but that’s what you get for the price. It does the job but depending on the amount of cutting you do I would determine what is the best option for you.

  • I had no idea what a difference a new blade could make
A little history..... I have a Craftsman 10" table saw that's about 40 years old. It had a couple safety features that I hated and removed long ago. Also, back in the day they suggested that you engrave your Social Security Number in your tools so you could reclaim them if they were stolen - I ground them off about 5 years ago - that should tell you something. I rip mainly landscape timbers and pressure treated framing lumber for my outdoor projects. I was using a DeWalt 24T Pro Carbide blade that I got as a free sample for being a Hardware Salesman. It was not unusual for the blade to bind and blow a circuit breaker. I finally got tired of it and after watching some YouTube videos I decided that it was time for a new blade. I knew the brand and after reading the reviews this is the one I chose. I could not believe what a difference this blade makes! Faster, smoother cuts and its actually a lot quieter. Like many of us old guys I'm sure, I'm kicking myself for not making this change sooner. Buy it - you'll like it! ... show more

  • Brought new life to my saw
After pitching various junk hand-me-downs and OEM blades I was looking for THE blade for my little table saw (Craftsman contractor saw). I have some Diablos for my miter saw with good results so was going to stick with the brand. I also narrowed it down between this blade or the D1040X general purpose or the D1050X combo. I opted for this one as I did have a good 60T finish blade I could swap in a pinch and I planned to do mostly ripping. In the end I am extremely happy with the decision. It cuts everything like butter and I am finally realizing that this is how a table saw is suppose to cut. Just the other day, from the advice I read that someone uses this blade for everything, I decided to use it to cut some shelves from 3/4 ply and it's the smoothest cut I've seen. Highly recommend that everyone should have a blade liked this if not this one. I will mentioned that the the blade I did get the expansion slots are indeed painted on. I don't know why they would do that; I would've bought it without the slots anyways. It just seems to cheepen an otherwise great blade. ... show more
