As another reviewer noted, the colors are much more vivid than the pictures suggest. The plates are thinner, but seem almost as sturdy, so far, as the 50+ year old melamine plates that I still have from childhood. For that reason I don't think it is fair to compare the price to discount store plastic plates of the same size that fade and scratch quickly. My only issue is with the packaging. The paper wrap was secured to the top plate with a quarter-sized glob of adhesive that was as hard as a rock. It took, literally, 2 days of soaking in dish soap and water and repeated careful scraping with a plastic knife to get all of it off without ruining the finish or resorting to damaging solvents. ... show more
