To start out, my skin is very pale and sensitive. I have a UV(sun) allergy; while that is it's own problem, it causes a lot of other complications with my skin in the long run. I love Freeman's products- they are effective and dirt cheap. For this mask in particular, I have seen many reviews that say it is not a mask, just a scrub. When you first use it, you will understand why it seems that way. But it is a mask as well and should be used as one. Charcoal in skin care products is beneficial because when it left on the surface of skin, it pulls oil from the inner part of the pore(which is hard to do without STRIPING the oil from the pore). So leaving this product on your face for 5-7 minutes like it says to do is a key part of the process. It's just not what people are used to in a mask. The black sugar part of the product is what is going to scrub away the dead skin. AND if you left the mask on prior to scrubbing, all the excess oil the charcoal pulled to the surface, the black sugar will remove. Now, my funny story! The first time I used this product, I had horribly rough skin(repairing from a bad sunburn). I smeared this on thick and watched TV for a bit. I left it on a lot longer than it says to, but there was no discomfort. It was kind of soothing and warm. When I hopped into the shower to wash it off, the mask was still sticky and I started massaging it into my face, adding only a little water at a time. I put my hands into the water to get a little more and my hands felt so soft it startled me! I choked on some of the mask(which tastes just like sugar...) and washed the rest off. My face was as soft as my hands, and I've never felt such a huge difference in the texture of my skin with just one use of something. I am a firm believer that you need to take care of your skin every day for it to be healthy and beautiful. Nothing works over night, nothing is a miracle potion. Everything takes time because your skin goes through cycles. If you cut yourself, nothing you put on it will heal it right away. It's the same for your skin. But this mask/scrub threw me for a loop because it gave me a very significant result with the first use. It's kept my skin from overdrying and from getting too oily- a good balance for about 2 days after use. It's a great exfoliator, without being harsh. And the prices is beyond reasonable. I'd recommend it to anyone, it's my new favorite mask!

This face mask is wonderful. I use it about 2 times a week. I use it two ways, either by following the instructions for use on the back, which is wearing it as a mask for 15 minutes, then rubbing it in with some warm water for a full 2 minutes, then washing off. Or I use a little bit in the shower as just a face wash, where instead of letting it sit for 15 minutes, I just scrub my face with it for 2 minutes and rinse off (which I feel works just a swell because the hot, steamy water opens up my pores). After only a few uses, my pores appear smaller and my skin is SO SMOOTH. It removes ALL the dead, dry & flaky skin from my face and my skin looks & feels brighter. I have EXTREMELY sensitive skin and this does not irritate it at all. If you have sensitive skin and are worried about that when looking to buy this, I would say it's worth a try. I purchased this because I often use the avocado mask they make, and that's great for rejuvenating my skin but not for reducing/cleaning out my pores. I love this mask and definitely plan to buy more when I run out. And the price is fantastic in my opinion. ***The one negative comment I have about this product is that it can be hard to apply, because as soon as I rub it on, it starts to clump in one spot, or I try to smooth it out, and it wipes away from the spot I'm trying to cover, which results in me using more of the product to get my face covered. I will probably end up buying this more often than other face masks because I have to use more of it at a time. Once you get used to applying however, it does get easier.

Okay, so I've tried 3 different freeman masks over the last few months (Clay Mask, Charcoal and black sugar, & Dead sea minerals) just to see which one I like best, and though I don't think this one is the best I've used I certainly think it's one of the better ones. People have mentioned a "warming" effect when you put this mask on your face and it is actually true. I was surprised the first time I put this on, it almost felt like putting a heating pad to my face. I used this mask 3 times a week after a vigorous workout. I have problems with breaking out after I work out and this product helped the problem, but only slightly. After I got home from the gym I would wipe my face with a baby wipe, dampen my face with warm water, and put a generous amount of the Charcoal and Black Sugar Mask all over my face. I would then chill out for the recommended 7-10 minutes. This mask did not harden in that time, it only slightly dried out. Then I would jump into the shower, do my daily routine, and scrub off the mask last right before I got out. I liked this mask mostly for the exfoliating effect the sugar has. My face was noticeably softer, and even my hands just from putting the mask on were softer. I did notice, about an hour after getting out of the shower and using this mask, that the sides of my nose, my chin, and my T zone were slightly oily, which is uncomfortable and it was odd because I do not have an oily face. With most exfoliation products, aside from a simple scrub brush, a little bit of oil is to be expected but this was an uncomfortable amount that I had to wipe away 2 or 3 times before I went to bed, and I woke up with an oily face in the morning. Although the oil problem was not as bad as when I used the Anti-Stress Dead sea mask, it was still more than I care to deal with on a regular basis. I've also used this product as a quick scrub in a shower and that works great to exfoliate as well. 4/5 stars, I liked this product but I didn't love it, and I probably won't continue to use it much except maybe to exfoliate in the shower once in a while. In case you're wondering which product worked out best for me (I don't have much of an oil problem, I break out after vigorous workouts and when I get my period), it was the Freeman Feeling Beautiful Clay Purifying Facial Mask, with 5/5 stars and it definitely noticeably helped my skin, I highly recommend it.

Kept getting ingrowns and this helped. Washes off well. Make sure you get all off or you will be sticky. Great quality and great value. Appearance is black and you can see the sugar granules but it seems small. Skin will feel smooth not sure about moisturized.

Edit- I just ordered from this listing for the 4th time as it's getting more and more difficult to find this in store. This time, the 3rd party seller was so very kind and included 6 face mask packs with my order. I thought that was so sweet and wanted to leave a review thanking them for their generosity! I have dry to normal sensitive skin, that doesn't often break out, but is prone to some texture. I use glycolic acid every other day for chemical exfoliating, and I like to use this physical exfoliant every two weeks or so, mostly in summer when the sun tans my face, and in winter when my skin dries out. Many physical exfoliating products can disrupt the skin's ph level while also causing tiny tears. Because of this, I tested several face scrubs to find the most gentle and effective. Not only was this the best value, but also the best for my skin type. It's been six years of use and I haven't found anything I like better. I use it as a scrub, never a mask. I wet my skin, then very gently apply it to my face and down my neck. I barely apply pressure when applying the product and I rinse off immediately. I am left with super soft skin, as well as better looking makeup application. My acne prone teen son also uses it, every week or two, and if he skips it for a while I can tell, because his skin will look a tad dull and dry.

I've been using the trial or "travel size" versions of Freeman products for a few months now and I really like them! I purchased the 0.5 oz packets for $2.00 each at Sally's and they are great for testing out whether or not the product is right for you. So far I've tried the Honeydew and Camomile Sleeping Mask which I love, the Sweet Tea & Lemon Peel-Away Clay Mask which was alright, and the Dead Sea Minerals Anti-Stress Mask which was also very nice. But I also bought the trial size of this mask, the Charcoal & Black Sugar Polish Mask. I hadn't used it in the past months despite just learning about my love for exfoliating, but I figured that because I enjoyed the last few masks I tried that I would go ahead and buy the full size! There are a few reasons why I really recommend buying the full size. The first being that you get literally 10 times the product for only three times the price. At $6.47 for 6.0 ounces at Walmart the full size offers much more than the $2.00 for 0.5 ounces in the trial size. As for the actual product, I really like it! I just tried it tonight and it was quite an interesting experience. I will say that this is the first Freeman product that I've tried that actually smells nice. The other products don't "reek" per-se but baby powder and play-doh aren't really pleasing smells to me, but I can get over that if the product is very beneficial. This product, however, could easily be confused for a very light, floral perfume! My father described the look of the product as a "very concerning monkey poo" as it is pitch black with many large granules of black sugar in it. It is warm when stored at room temperature and feels very gooey and thick to the touch. Applying it to the face is very nice and coarse, just how I prefer my exfoliating scrubs! I applied it heavily and rubbed it into my driest areas, one of which being my eyebrows. I had just plucked my eyebrows lightly to remove stray hairs and my skin was a bit irritated, but my skin is not very sensitive otherwise so I decided to see how the exfoliating would affect my skin. To my surprise it made my entire face very smooth, including my eyebrows! People often forget to apply product (that is non-hair removing or peeling) on the eyebrows as well because there is skin under there. This product took great care of my skin and even my eyebrow hairs, so I definitely have to recommend it and any Freeman 'Feeling Beautiful' face products!

I confused this freeman face scrub with the polishing freeman scrub for some reason the fragrance is wildly different between the 2. This one has a very strong “manly” type smell to it. It does a great job at exfoliating but I just could not get past the smell. The polishing version has a nice “clean” smell the exfoliating version (this one) overpowering. I had to throw it away.
