  • Best price on the web for a rubber net!
Style: Hoop Size: 23" X 26" Netting: Rubber
This net would cost three times as much at a fly fishing shop. It is beautiful and constructed very well. Rubber netting is the best type of netting. Not only does it protect the fish, your hooks will not get tangled in it! It is also very durable. It will not tear easily. The netting is attached to the wood frame with nylon string. It would be easy to replace the net if it did rip. Although, at this price it would probably just be cheaper to buy another one of these! It is heavier than aluminum nets or nets with a cloth net. This is the price you pay for beauty and function. I can say that when it is attached to the back of my vest, I do not notice that it is there. The weight has never tempted me to leave it home or regret taking it with me. ... show more

  • Great net but beware of treble hooks!
Style: Hoop Size: 11" X 15" Netting: Micromesh
I purchased this net over the others because of the favorable reviews, mesh netting, and because it didn't cost $135.00 from my local Orvis store. As a younger fellow who is just starting out financially, I simply can't afford to spent big bucks on the nicest equipment available. As such, this finely-crafted wood-handled net seemed right for me. The first time I used it was on a canoe trip through the Adirondacks. Granted, the fishing is mediocre at best (or perhaps it was the fisherman...) but I did catch a nice smallmouth bass on my lucky small-sized firetiger patterned jointed rapala lure just as the sun was setting. With my buddies cheering and my heart racing, I gingerly employed this net's awesome scooping abilities to apprehend my newly acquired slimy green friend. While it initially did its job wonderfully, I quickly became aware of a troubling circumstance: the other 5 hooks were helplessly snagged in the finely woven mesh netting! My heart broke but I nonetheless worked quickly to unhook the helpless little fish. As the light faded, I sensed him laughing at my new-found predicament as he swam away into the deep knowing that none of his fish friends would be brutally hooked that night. Seemed fair enough. So, with the darkness fully upon me, I began a long and strenuous ordeal to remove my beloved lure from the net's deadly grasp. It was as if I was trying to remove Frodo from Shelob's entangling web while attempting to keep the sticky snare intact as well. Even as I freed one hook, another 2 would take its place. For the next 23 minutes I felt like a surgeon as I delicately worked to release the bond between my favorite lure and my shiny new landing net. Ultimately, it was a pair of pliers that won the night. The net came out unscathed but alas, my trusty lure was now without barbs. I have learned my lesson well. I still plan on using this net but only in conjunction with single hook baits and lures. Perhaps when I am older and much wealthier, I will buy that fancy net from Orvis. In the meantime however, I get enjoyment knowing that the sum of my gear doesn't cost as much as 6 months of rent. Who really spends $950 on a fishing rod?? Oy vey. Anyways, this review is finished. It loses one lonely star for it's un-advertised ability to catch lures as well as fish. I pity the man that uses this net alongside a rapala minnow with 3 sets of treble hooks... You have been warned! PROS It is very solidly built The mesh reduces harm to fish A classy design - makes you look like a fisherman who knows his fish It's extremely budget friendly CONS There is a lot of water resistance when dragging it through water Snagged hooks are near impossible to remove without tearing the mesh ... show more

  • Great net for the money!
Style: Hoop Size: 23" X 26" Netting: Rubber
The finish might be a tad rough but it is a perfect working net. I like the depth of the netting and size. The clear rubbery netting prevents your hook from snagging. I lost a couple fish from them wiggling off the hook as I was grabbing or in hooking them. Not any more with this. I can unhook and release the fish without even touching it. I might put an extra coat of sealant on it. Feels a bit thin in places. It is a great net at a bargain price! ... show more

  • Not what I expected
Style: Hoop Size: 11" X 15" Netting: Micromesh
I have a similar laminated wood net but I thought this one would be better because of the tight net. Comparing the two the nets, my White River has a clear rubberized material but the bottom of the net has these large 1 1/2" openings and I was afraid smaller fish would get thru it or stuck in it. This Frabill version's micro-mesh net has a tighter weave, 1/4" openings, but it is not a rubberized material but plain nylon which seems to me would definitely be harsher on the fish. The net basket size was smaller than the White River and did not really have a flat spot for the fish. In the end, I did not see the Frabill net as an improvement which I had hoped it would be, so I returned it. ... show more

  • Awesome net
Style: Hoop Size: 23" X 26" Netting: Rubber
I ordered this net for a friend of ours and he loves it. After seeing his I had to have one for myself, my husband decided to stick with his old net. After watching me use my new landing net, he had to have one so I've just ordered his. That makes 3 of these that I've purchased and they are totally awesome. My hooks don't get hung up in it, the fish aren't injured for release, it's lightweight and beautifully made, it doesn't hold odors like my other net, and it's easy to keep clean. Everyone who has seen this net always ask me about it and where they can purchase one. ... show more
