Features

  • You will receive (1) 1.5-cubic foot bag of potting soil per purchase.
  • Ready for immediate use, no additional ingredients are required. This bag is designed to be ready for planting upon purchase. Plant directly into bag.
  • Ingredients like aged forest products and peat moss help increase effectiveness in retaining moisture directly around the roots of plants. Sandy loam, also in Ocean Forest, has excellent drainage properties that help prevent root rot, a common problem when roots sit in stagnant water.
  • Ideal for container gardens, houseplants, trees, shrubs, roses, and even seedlings. The rich ingredients in Ocean Forest provide the proper environment for seedlings to become vigorous plants.
  • Ingredients include 50-60% aged forest products, sphagnum peat moss, perlite, sandy loam, and fertilizer. Derived from fish emulsion, crab meal, shrimp meal, earthworm castings, bat guano, kelp meal, and oyster shell.

Description

The Ocean Forest Potting Soil brings Good Things From the Earth and Sea! It's the ultimate potting soil-everything your plants need, in one bag. Ocean Forest is a powerhouse blend of premium earthworm castings, bat guano, and sea-going fish and crab meal. Composted forest humus, sandy loam, and sphagnum peat moss give Ocean Forest its light, aerated texture. Start with Ocean Forest and watch your plants come alive! Perfect for containers and ready to use right out of the bag. Ocean Forest is pH adjusted at 6.3 to 6.8 to allow for optimum fertilizer uptake. There's no need for nitrogen fertilizers at first; instead try an organic blend like FoxFarm Big Bloom Liquid Plant Food to encourage strong branching and a sturdy, healthy growth habit.

  • Great Soil for plants!
I use a mixture of Happy Frog (it's easy on young plant roots) and earthworm castings (granular) for the top 5" of the soil in a 5 gallon fabric pot. The remainder (most of) the pot gets a mixture of Ocean Forest, Happy Frog and earthworm castings with the final 4" of the bottom consisting of Ocean Forest (has more good stuff for the maturing plant) and worm castings. Approximately 20% of the mixture is earthworm castings. I use dechlorinated water mixed with liquid earthworm castings and kelp concentrate. An occasional dose of cal-mag during vegetation and flower bloom (at flower time) for the phosphorus and potassium. This really WORKS! ... show more

  • WoW!
Amazing soil! Added to a set of starter tomatoes indoors while it was still cold and refreshed then outside when it warmed up. There was a bit discoloring during the transition but it was not much. The PH is also surprisingly stable for a soil that seems so "hot". When putting in a small drainable pot, watering, then catching the runoff and testing led to a reading of 6.3-6.5 which can easily be raised slightly with a quarter tsp of fine dolomite mixed in your first watering (mixed in water will spread more evenly than top feed). The ppm reading from this runoff was in the 700's region I believe. I did multiple tests with multiple soils at the same time and even mixed. But I remember this being one of the more stabilized ones with a reasonable amount of nutrients to start. As for seeds, do NOT start them in this soil. They will most likely deteriorate and disappear leaving the shell. It is too hot for a seed, and a sprout might have a chance... but I would not use this until the plants have their first true leaves showing at earliest. Great soil, amazing drainage. Though it may look like you should water it, you should most likely hold off or finger test to make sure as it holds just enough water to still allow proper "breathing" as well. Be careful to over water is the basic point I'm trying to make. It is a very good soil and can take some getting used to if you've used cheaper, wood flake ridden soils prior to this. Guaranteed you will not go back! ... show more
