Sadly, this machine is highly underpowered for the price. The set up instructions are unclear, as are the power requirements. If you’re going to be spending close to $1k on a CNC, you’re better off investing in a higher powered machine. There are very straight forward things the company could do to make it easier to use, like publishing spoil board leveling gcode or otherwise providing more robust customer service. Setting it up took me 4 hours to complete, and even then it had issues. Fox Alien overall is fine, but skip the Pro Max and get something higher quality, or at the very least isn’t an oversized basic model. There is no value for money. The quality is poor. The ease of use is difficult. Cutting performance is weak. Durability overall is unsure, but I do not have high hopes. Pro: it will eventually cut wood. Con: it does not do it that well.

This is my first CNC, and I am still getting up to speed with the software and possibilities, so my review will focus specifically on the types of concerns new users may have in a selecting this machine. I will return to update if anything major crops up during use with regard to durability or performance. All in all, I will say that I am very pleased with it. I am primarily a woodworker and the large work area will allow for a wide variety of use cases, from simple logo carving on cutting boards, etc. to customized signage and scrollwork. Keep in mind that its posted dimensions are the absolute minimum of space you will need for it, and add in room for a computer, materials, and a comfortable work area. I knew what I was getting, but I was still unprepared for the space needed. Generally speaking, assembly was well-illustrated in the manual, logically organized, and overall not too difficult. I will say a set that hex bolt bits for my drill made things a lot easier, and faster, than doing everything with the Allen wrenches would have. That said, there are two issues that made it a bit harder than necessary. The first were the number of typos in the manual. Most involved an incorrectly labelled bolt size (e.g. for the spoilboard assembly illustration, it said to use M5*25 bolts, but the parts list above indicated M5*20). Fortunately, in most cases, the correct size was mentioned elsewhere on the page, it was just incorrect in one of the diagrams and I could arrive at the correct bolt by process of elimination. The second problem arose from what I consider to a nice consideration in concept from the manufacturer, and that was the inclusion of extra bolts, and a nice little card in the bolt case calling out the various sizes. The issue was twofold: a) the extras made the aforementioned process-of-elimination method tricky, because the extras threw off part counts, and left you feeling that you missed something, and b) the bolts shifted in shipping and ended up in different slots than intended. The solutions for these issues are relatively simple -- individually labelled parts bags instead of the box, and a more thoroughly edited manual. This is a new product, so I assume the latter will happen with time. It isn't easy for me, as a relative newbie, to judge value on this. $900 (at present) isn't anything to sneeze at, but the price of entry for this type of product is pretty high to begin with. Simply scrolling through older youtube videos, it is easy to see however that these newer models improve on the earlier, entry-level ones, and you now get a more robust machine for the price, one which allows you to hit the ground running instead of tweaking too much or studying the DIY community for weeks. The inclusion of Candle on the USB stick (as well as a digital manual, and test codes) was much appreciated. As much as I am satisfied by the machine as shipped, I am also excited by the upgrade potential, particularly the option to add a 4th-axis rotary attachment, a more powerful motor, or a laser. Hopefully those pan out to be as easy to add-on as advertised, taking an already capable machine into the "giant killer" territory.

This is my first CNC and so far, I am incredibly impressed! Setup of the machine took about an hour. Shortly after it was set-up, I was cutting one of the pre-made files that was provided on a thumbstick. Every part of the machine feels rigid and easy to tram and start cutting. As an engraving tool, this machine is not the fastest, but for simple shapes and easy engravings, it gets the job done in a timely manner. For detailed "carving" style cuts, this machine takes a very long time because the provided cutting tools are very fine. I have been investigating new cutting heads tom make things go faster, but have not pulled the trigger yet. That being said, this machine is incredibly accurate with the tiny cutting head that is provided. This is a great intro to CNC. However, the instruction guide only goes as far as getting you setup to cut. The software is ONLY for interpreting and sending G-Code to the machine. You cannot just load an image in and start cutting. This machine needs a program like Fusion to provide GCode. Overall, I'm excited to continue learning with this machine and continuing to make things!

The FoxAlien Desktop CNC is a great piece of hardware for [hobbyists / beginners]. Putting it together took [amount of time], and I was impressed by the [rigidity of the frame / quality of the components]. I used it to carve some [wood / acrylic] using [software name], and the cuts were [clean and precise / required some dialing in]. Cable management is [well thought out / a bit messy]. It is a fantastic tool once you get the settings right.

I got the special edition FoxAlien POS Limited. Dont waste your money on these toys. There is a reason a real machine cost 10 thousand. Anything less is money down the drain burning through stock and consuming time. These machines forget where they are and torch whole projects. Twists me off how I could take the same time on my manual mill to produce better results. Honestly why bother having a computer control a cutting tool that has no sense of depth. Foggin ell so sick and tired of foreign randos building endless supplies of junk machines.

This is my first CNC router beyond the 3018 and let me say this thing is awesome! I am new to the CNC routing hobby and adding it to my laser and 3d printing activities will be a great addition to my capabilities. For the price, this thing does GREAT!!! I cut the 3D relief of the Alligator swimming in the MDF sample piece they included and it did great. Would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a budget friendly piece of equipment that is highly capable.
