    • This stuff actually works
We live in a very hot area of the country, in the Coachella Valley, CA. During the summer it's an uphill battle keeping the growth of algae in our patio fountain under control. Usually I have to empty the basin, then scour it to rid the algae, then fill it up again only for two to three weeks pass and the algae's back. A few months back when we needed some maintenance on our fountain (what I'll call) a water feature vendor recommended Fountec Algaecide and put a tablespoon of the liquid in our fountain. That one tablespoon kept the algae at bay for well over three weeks. As its effects wore off the algae returned. That's when I purchased a gallon of the algaecide and have been using it ever since, putting a cap full of the liquid in our fountain about every two weeks. Works like a charm. Fountec is not cheap, but given how far so little goes and its effectiveness, it's a good value. ... show more

    • This product really works without hurting animals
I've use this product on our pondless water feature, approximately thirty feet long and 10" deep. The fountain runs 24/7 an algae was a continuous problem until we discovered this product. Variety of animals drink from the continuous water, including birds, squirrels abd even our pets with no ill effects. However it is not safe for fish. ... show more

    • Good for control but not for elimination of algae
I have a large fountain about 100 gallons. I bought this product due to it's high recommendation on Amazon by most reviewers. I have a stubborn algae bloom in the fountain because i live in Central CA where we get a lot of sun. The fountain is a concrete fountain and sits in the sun a good part of the day. I tried several algaecide products prior to this one. Overall it is easy to use, the instructions are clear on the amount to put in the water. It pours nicely, no splashing and you don't use much so even though the overall price seems high you only use a very small amount. My problem was with the algae bloom I have this product did a good job of breaking the algae up but not really eliminating it and even a few days after putting it in I had continued algae problems. I used it about 3 or 4 times and just did not get the results I wanted. I think this product is great for maintenance once you have the algae under control but honestly the only way I can fix my situation at least is going to be to drain and wash out the fountain and fill with clean water then use this product as maintenance. So it's not as advertised as far as killing off algae but it does break it up. ... show more

The amount suggested on the bottle for the size of the pond was way off. I used the entire bottle - five times the amount suggested-without any significant change to the algae in the pond.
