  • Learning curve... but so worth it.
FYI I am using a Samsung Galaxy 7 with this watch. I got this as a teacher to help with messages from parents at the end of the day when I don't have my phone or computer handy. It really is a very straightforward smart watch for an awesome price. It has a major learning curve and takes some playing with. If I had written a review after 1 or 2 days with this watch it would have been so negative. But I am 3 weeks in and so in love. Still learning, but each thing is a fun discovery. For example, when my Pandora music automatically pops up from my phone app on the watch, the top push button automatically becomes the reverse, the spin dial is volume, and the bottom button is forward. These little details will go unnoticed without some trial and error or a manual (which maybe can be downloaded, but no one actually reads all of those anyway, so way to save paper Fossil). The pros: * So beautiful!!! I got the rose gold with bling and just wow. * The fit app included is fantastic, though I have used all but sleep stuff as I am charging at night. * Extremely programmable! You can make this exactly what you want, but it takes some try fail as there isn't a manual included. * The timer!!! As a teacher, I live my life in a series of 1 to 15 min intervals. With one swipe I am in the timer with preprogrammed options based on what I use most. It silently vibrates to let me know to wrap an activity up. * Voice programing allows you to respond to texts. As someone mentioned before… you can only see the latest text from one contact. I can see many contacts at once, but if someone sends a 2nd before I check, I will have to look at my phone to see the 1st. * There is a keyboard feature that pops up at times as well. Not sure how to make it always work, as I am still playing, but it is tiny and powerful. * You don’t have to download all the apps onto the watch. If your phone has a notification, it will automatically show on your watch. For example, I use the ClassDojo app, which isn’t an option for the watch app store. I was bummed at first, but then a text came through my watch flawless on that app just because it was synced to my phone without a download. * Range is pretty good. I can walk around most of my school jammed with contrasting signal waves without losing connectivity. The cons: * Some of the apps don't seem to work as expected if you download straight to the watch, but again there is a major learning curve and I am able to go around it, so I haven't spent a lot of time figuring out what the error is yet. For example, Pandora as an app on the watch: shows my account, says its playing, but isn’t actually playing. However, Pandora from my phone app works great as a pop up feature (so again, no need to explore what I am missing, as it is most certainly a user error). Messenger as an app on the watch: won't link, but pops up perfectly on the watch through my phone app and I can still respond. So the few issues I have had also have a super easy go around. * Battery: with Extended as an option it almost lasts 2 days, but not quite so it needs charged each night. One issue I have noticed is that with extended you have to turn on blue tooth each morning on your watch for it to reconnect to the phone. Very easy to do with the drop down features built in, and the cloud on the watch shows if you aren't connected right away. No big deal for me, but worth noting. If you get this watch, please take a deep breath and explore. It is so frustrating and awesome all at once if you can get through the initial desire to make it do your bidding immediately with no knowledge of its inner workings. ... show more

  • Awesome watch except for the leather band!
I've had my watch for about 8 months and I wear it all day and night, except when it's charging. The watch itself is fantastic. I've submerged it in a creek while crossing on a hike and it was perfectly fine. The battery life is great as long as you don't have the screen turned to "always on". It charges very quickly which is a plus! The watch band is HORRIBLE. It gets dirty within a week of purchase. Within a month of regular wear, the leather glued onto the silicone band starts coming off. I actually had to peel the leather off at one point because it looked so bad. A month after that ordeal, I noticed the silicone was starting to tear near the quick release latch. If you buy this watch, get a backup watch band. You'll need it. Sleep tracking isn't offered on this watch by default. If you download a third-party tracker though it works well. I use one nightly on my watch. The screen does scratch easily but I have not tried one of the screen protectors you can buy on Amazon. You may want to try one of those on yours. Mine is rose gold with rhinestones. The rhinestones look new, even after 8 months of wear. I was worried the stones would fall out but they look pretty secure! The middle button on my watch does seem to stick a little bit but it still functions properly. The watch performance is great compared to other watches in its class. Keep your software updated and only install apps you really need to maximize your battery life and processor speed. Tracking with Google Fit seems pretty accurate when I go hiking or jogging. Heart rate monitoring also works well. Overall, I don't regret buying this watch. My only real complaint is the watch band. Hopefully Fossil improves the band on future watches. ... show more

  • Really a 3.5 star
Overall this is a good smartwatch. It tracks specific exercises in your workouts which is a really great feature, though I haven’t found where to actually find that information logged. You can customize the watch faces pretty easily to find one that works for your function/aesthetic. It looks great (the watch part, the band is easy to change out) and functions pretty well, even though google's software IS pretty glitchy. You can customize what notifications you get on it and what the buttons do, though you can't reply to messages via the watch if you have an iPhone. You do need to charge it often - I usually do it at night but it charges very quickly if you're wanting to wear it while you sleep (maybe charge it while you eat dinner or breakfast, etc). A couple of issues I have with it overall: -the leather watch band gets dirty REAL quick and is hard to clean (see photo); -it randomly disconnects from the app for virtually no reason; -whenever I try to search something in google from it it gives me an error; -I've had several times when it's just lagged really badly and didn't do what I asked, like changing the watch face or opening google fit. It really depends on what you want it for, but it works well for me AND this one looks great. I wanted one that was elegant enough to wear to work and other functions but wasn't dainty for when I work out. I get a lot of compliments on it. ... show more
