  • Great little desktop amp
I've been using this amp for a little over a month with my desktop PC and audio interface. Sounds good and clean. Simple, small, and nicely built. Plenty of power with the included PSU. It's powering a pair of old Klipsch KG .5's (50 watts RMS, 90 dB sensitivity, 60Hz-20kHz). I usually keep the volume around 10 or 11 o'clock at most, which is plenty loud in my small room. Don't think I've ever turned it past halfway. That leaves plenty of headroom in my case. I tested the noise floor by turning the volume to max while nothing was playing and heard absolutely zero hiss. Very impressive. My only complaints are the lack of a true sub pre-out and the light thumping noise it makes when turned on. Otherwise this is an awesome amp and I'm impressed with how far Class D has come. It's a killer deal for the price. ... show more

  • Fosi Audio V3: A Budget Amplifier paired with really nice speakers?
I had been hearing about the release of this amp from various forums and decided to experiment with it with a couple of speakers that I have acquired I’ve the last 6 years I or so. I’m a bargain hunter at heart. On one end, I have a pair of Klipsch LaScala’s from the early 1980’s that I resurrected from the dead. They were in horrible shape and came from a church that used them as their auditorium PA. They are know for their efficiency and usually have synergies with tube amps. On the other end, I have the electrostatic Martin Logan ESL’s, which sound completely different, are very detailed and have a reputation of being challenging to drive, although the newer Martin Logan’s don’t have this problem as much. I have been using a 90 watt per channel tube integrated amp and was really looking for an amp that was much cleaner and imparted less distortion, which a tube amp for the most part is built to do. The tube amp sounds great but it seems to blur the sound a bit, if that makes sense. With the LaScala’s, the V3 power was way more needed to drive them. It didn’t sound harsh or brittle and in fact, was completely quiet with the volume knob maxed. My tube amp imparts a slight hiss at the tweeter that is audible from my sitting position. The V3, checked all the boxes and did everything well. The highs and mids were nice and balanced and the biggest difference was with the low end. I have 2 SVS SB1000 subs and the V3 really provided nice and controlled texture to the bass region, something that was lacking in my tube amp. I won’t go as far as using the magical language to describe the sound that many audiophiles use but as this is a subjective review, what I can say is that the amp did its job and at this price, it really is a no-brainer for people that even are wanting to use this will quality speakers. Martin Logan ESL’s Challenge: These speakers are known to have dynamic impedance swings, with ohms that often dip, making them a tough act for many amplifiers. But the Fosi V3 didn’t strain at all. It provided consistent power, ensuring the ESL’s remained articulate and expressive. Much better than my tube integrated. The dips in ohms which could cause some amplifiers to falter, only showcased the stability of the V3. Very surprising for the low cost. Again, what can I say…these small inexpensive amps have improved to the point where they are an incredible value. Conclusion: The Fosi Audio V3 isn’t just a budget amplifier. It’s an amplifier that can be used with expensive speakers. For anyone hesitant to use the Fosi in similar use cases, give it a try. For the price, there’s very little to lose. ... show more

  • Nice attempt -- it with some goofy engineering quirks
I work with digital chip amps, own dozens. I have used Fosi, Douk, Nobsound, etc. These little amplifiers have come a long way. The GOOD: - Great flat linear sound stage with no noticeable distortion -- clean running - Comes with a 32v (5-amp) AC/DC adapter - Easily produces big amplifier power with a 48v adapter - Insanely efficient -- sips power - Full 20-20,000Hz response - 2-8 ohm speakers rated The NOT SO GOOD - 300w x 2 @ 4-ohms? If you have a 48v adapter, more like 100w x 2 (RMS) at 4-ohms old school rating - STOP RATING THESE AMPLIFIERS SO HIGH -- use the standard RMS ratings like we had in the 1970/80s. - Volume controller is okay, but NOT linear. At about 80% it starts to crank up the power - Volume controller (pre-amp leveling) and input sensitivity SUCKS. You need a lot of input to get it to output. Even with "overdriving" the AUX input with the volume controller on max, it is STILL logarithmic. Frustrating. Quite possibly, the stupidest design ever - It does get warm-hot - The Pre-Amp 3.5mm output on the back needs to be variable vs set. BoneHead engineering. THE BOTTOM LINE - This is great sounding and powerful little $90 power amplifier with some goofy engineering and design flaws that makes it an oddity. No Bluetooth, no SUB-OUT, no tone controls, with a cheesy "logarithmic" volume controller. Using a 48v AC/DC adapter (not included) uncorks a lot of power for a micro digital amplifier. Despite these cheap "toy surprises in a box" Chinese engineering BS hang ups, it is solid performer when playing music and actually doing it's job. It "sounds" really sweet and flat. For all the "old school" HIFI audiophiles out there, it plays like a 100-120w receiver from the 1970/80s when equipped with a 48v (5-amp) adapter. ... show more

  • Simply Outstanding !!!
This amp has exceeded my expectations in every way. It has a ton of power especially using the 48V power brick. The overall sound is clear with no distortion even when fully rotated. I am using the pre-out for my Kanto 6" subwoofer and works extremely well with my Cambridge audio satellite speakers. BTW, it's a perfect desktop system. What attracted me to this amp was it's simplicity.....I wanted a good audiophile small amp for my desktop that would have great specs and small form factor.....this baby checked all the boxes for me. To top it all off, I had to buy the Orange knob as it just sets it off. Lastly, I would like to mention that the only improvement that Fosi could make is installing higher rubber feet. I believe this is most important as with the 48v power brick it does run a little warmer thus requiring a little more air flow. I replaced the stock rubber feet for taller ones about .400 of an inch on Amazon for a quantity of 12 for about $9. I believe they call them Black Door stop Bumpers....used for a variety of applications including electronics. They are solid, look good and makes it easier to grasp the rotary knob. I don't think you will be unhappy with this purchase......I know I wasn't !!!!! ... show more
