  • My Force1 U49WF was possessed.
I’m an experienced drone pilot and own a Phantom 3 pro and a PH4 pro V2. I bought the Force1 based on a great review from uavcoach.com in their weekly newsletter. It would be perfect to fly in my house whenever I wanted to pester my wife and my dog. But, alas, my fun was to never be. Drone was calibrated as per instructions. First flight, living room: took off to about 4’ above ground level. Started backing up (needed trim adjustment), backing up to my face. ( I’m sitting in my chair.) Contol was sluggish/unresponsive and I couldn’t get it to stop. I jumped up to avoid a beard trim, got it to drop to shin level. Kill command wouldn’t kill it. After attacking me and crashing (yes, those blades sting.), the kill command worked. Flight two: recalibrated and tethered the drone. Took off to 4’AGL prepared to trim it so it would hover. Drone had different idea, ignored trim instructions, and proceeded to attempt another attack. Tether stopped it, but crashed like before. I waited a couple of days for no wind, figuring I just need a little room to tame this beast. While waiting for calm air, I attempted to get the controller and drone to work with my iPhone and the app.; 12-15 attempts over three days and no luck. No video, no control input. Flight 3 “I’m Free at Last!!”- No video downlink, no wind and 79*F. Took off to about 8’agl. It wouldn’t stay still, started flying backwards, adjusted trim to no avail. At this point, it headed towards a tree. I got it to clear the tree at another 15’agl. It proceeds to do everything backwards as to what I’m imputing. At about 20’agl and 20’out, It made a slow turn, saw something interesting. It made a great straight level flight towards it’s Destiny, never to be seen again. I sent up my PH3 to look for it. No luck. Solution: adopted (bought) a baby Mavic to fly inside, and keep in my truck. I read several other reviews with experienced pilots having similar problems, and figure their drones came from the same psycho drone family that mine did. Cudos to the beginners that had good results, and are now members of the UAV flying fraternity. Blue Skies!! And a 1 star rating, which is too much. I do give give 3 stars for easy to learn, if it works. I gave it 3 stars for it being a decent beginner drone. Built solid, yet flexible, so crash damage is mitigated. And, if/when it seeks Freedom, you’ll only be out $80, and a crushed spirit. Negative five stars for my crushed spirit. [sigh] ... show more

  • U49W is a good hobbyist quad
The best reasons to get this quad are the flight time and the control distance. Having two long lasting batteries right off the bat is nice. Handles the wind better than minis. Easy to learn. Video and still quality is OK, it's 720p after all. Nice wide angle on the lens and the camera can be tilted down manually to two different angles. Biggest gripe is the camera cannot be activated from the control, you have to use the app. The app is OK. Controlling flight from the phone works well but I usually use the controller and use the phone to control the camera only. Takes crashes well, I had to replace the rotors after about 3 years. The price is down to $60! That's a bargoon! ... show more

  • Good times flying high!
The Force1 U49WF Blue Heron Drone is great for beginners wanting a larger, outdoor-use drone. Previously, we'd only ever had small, indoor-use helicopters and saucers so this was a step-up for us. Battery charging took a few hours and then we were ready to go. We crashed the drone a few times getting used to the controls and maneuvers but after that the flight was smooth. The automatic take-off and landing buttons definitely make operation much easier. We love that it came with extra propeller blades and the tools needed to change them. It would have been nice if the video linked in the instruction manual was for this model because the U49WF controller is much simpler than the one shown in the video. Still, it was useful for flight basics as intended. We did not get the chance to try the camera but will update the review if there's anything worth mentioning once we try it. We will probably pick up some extra batteries so that we can have longer flying sessions. Altogether, we're pretty pleased with the U49WF and it's a decent value for the money. ... show more

  • Good first drone
I just tried this item never having flown a drone before. I am pretty happy with my purchase. It was not too difficult to fly although I'm still getting the hang of it. My only complain is about the quality of the video not looking the stated HD 720p. It might have to do with the type of sd card I used. It does not include an sd card for the camera. It might need the type used on action cameras. I think the plastic/rubber frame that protects the propellers is a must for a beginner, that's part of why I chose this drone. But overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase. These things are a lot of fun and I love the aerial views you can get. One last thing, take the wind direction and speed into consideration specially with a light drone. It wont take much to push the drone 2-4ft in any direction and there could be an obstacle there. ... show more
