The guitar is beautiful, and I do like the small size of the amp. But I'm sorry to say that I was very disappointed with both the guitar and the amp. Broken amp on arrival: I noticed the amp had something heavy thumping around loosely inside when I pulled it out of the box. I wanted to check before I got electrocuted or started an electrical fire, so I opened the back of the amp and found that the speaker had entirely detached from the frame of the amp! The 4 screws that were supposed to stick the speaker onto the front of the amp were all loose and sticking onto the magnet! The speaker was just rolling around entirely loose inside. The super flimsy particle board material that the screws were supposed to be screwed into was even broken off and chipped. [SEE PICTURE]. Maybe the packaging needed more cushioning for the amp, or the amp just needs to be made of a sturdier material than the super flimsy particle cardboard. I was able to fix it with some construction adhesive to secure the broken pieces of particle board and fill the screw holes, before screwing the speaker into the front of the amp. The guitar needed way too much adjustment to be playable. This is not something a beginner would know how to do, and the beginner wouldn't know that it is because of the guitar that they sound extra bad. It is NOT suitable for beginners on their own. It would just make the beginner think they are playing it wrong and get discouraged by how bad it sounds. That is not fair for a beginner. But if you are someone who knows how to adjust guitars and will do so before giving it to a beginner, then this may be a little better. After I tuned it initially, I noticed a ton of fret buzz (where strings vibrate against the frets unintentionally) when playing open strings and even notes in the middle of the neck. The action was way too low and the neck's truss rod needed to be adjusted, and also the strings needed to be raised at the bridge. When I plugged it into the amp, there was a lot of buzz/noise if I am not touching the metal parts of the guitar (the bridge, the metal strings, or the tuning pegs. The noise goes away when I touch the metal parts of the guitar. This could mean that something was not grounded, or there was a floating ground reference. I re-soldered all the joints, and it helped somewhat, but the buzz/noise persisted when I was not touching anything and had the distortion/gain on, regardless of which pickup(s) I set the switch to. I tried plugging the guitar into a different amp, and the noise disappeared entirely, so I think it might be the included FGA-20 guitar amplifier that is the issue. It has only a 2 prong power cable - no ground, which leaves a floating ground reference. When you touch it the metal parts of the guitar, YOU become the ground reference, which stops the buzz. It won't fix it, but I'll try adding some shielding with conductive adhesive copper tape and see if that helps with the noise even a little. As for the amp's sound, I'm sad to admit that it is awful. "Farty" is the best I can describe it. With the distortion on, the gain has an abrupt large ramp right around 9.5-10 on the dial. And without a knob for the middle and only ones for the bass and treble, you kind of need to just turn the bass and treble all the way down to get the middle up for a nicer sound when using distortion. Oh another thing: the guitar goes out of tune pretty easily. It could just be the strings. Be sure to bend them a bit back and forth a few times before tuning. ... show more
