Amazing looking and comfortable. The sound is better than my HD 820. The rich, full, and detailed sound and imaging is amazing. Only soundstage is lacking compared to HD 820 but it still amazing. This and Empyrean are the best $3000 I have spent. Oh yeah, the bass blows up at very load volumes but there is no headphones that can do that except for my electrostatic L700. I love these more than L700 because they look and feel better and you can take on the go and use them with everything. Low impedance so very easy to drive. Like other review I also go LQI cables for it and use it with my Sony NW-WM1Z. Wow! ... show more

I was very hesitant to spend $3k on headphones. But I am so glad that I bought the Focal Stellia. I was in the market for a set of closed back headphones to compliment my Sennheiser HD800 S open backs. After researching numerous closed back headphones I decided to plunge into the Stellia’s. The packaging is premium and matches the price point. You can tell Focal put a lot of thought into the unboxing experience - it is next level great, and while only cosmetic, made any forms of initial buyers remorse disappear. I can see myself using the leather case that holds the Stellia paperwork for other uses – it has a great feel. The fit and finish is elite, and they are very comfortable. I can listen to them for hours in total comfort. As far as the sound, I am no audiophile. Just someone that loves music and wants to have the best experience possible. The Stellia’s have great low, mid and high levels. The bass is amazing but not overpowering. It’s just right. The sound experience makes the music pop and has made me branch out into new forms of music that I never listened to before (Jazz, other obscure artists, etc). I planned on using the Stellia’s more for travel and listening to music around the house, but I have also found myself using them in place of my HD 800S’s at my home office. While the HD 800 S’s have amazing sound stage as you would expect from open back headphones, the Stellia’s offer another range of clarity and performance that the HD800S’s cant match. While listening to music on the Stellia’s, I can close my eyes and get lost in the experience. However, I recommend having both open and closed back headphones in your collection because the experience is different and testing different styles of music with both is fun to see what sounds best to your ears. As far as DAC/Amps. In my home office I use a Schiit Audio Valhalla 2 tube amp with a Schiit Audio Modi DAC (Highly recommend this setup). For portable use I use a LEAUDIO XDUOO Poke II portable DAC. I don't even have words to describe these works of art. They literally transport your body into whatever studio or venue your song was recorded in. Breathtaking. No words. I would work a 2nd and 3rd job to buy these. Don't even second guess it. Nothing in the market today matches these.

I thought the detail retrieval was amazing but almost too amazing where it stood out to much. I never owned a closed back phone so it lost a lot of dimension and air to the performance depending on the music. Solo piano was great but I think these phone bring out the nuances of an instrument like that. On fuller range songs, I lost the bottom end air and extension but maybe it’s my old ear drums.
