  • Great headphones, needs time to break in
When I first got these, the high frequencies were piercing to my ears on certain music but the were clear and detailed. I hooked them up to an external amp and ran them overnight for a few days and each time I used them, they seem to get better. As another reviewer posted, they need time to really come into their own. I was tempted to send them back but as I noticed they sound was changing, I gave them another shot. I’ll admit I barely use them as a Bluetooth headset as I like they way they sound with the cord. I’ve read a lot about DACs and how they sound different but I never really got to hear much of a difference until these headphone. I have a Shanling M3s and recently acquired an Opus #3, I find these a good match for the Opus as the highs seem more pronounced on the Shanling M3s while they are better on the Opus #3. I really enjoy using these headphones now. I got them to replace my NAD VISO HP50 that broke after having to hastily repack at an airport. I loved the sounds of those and this one is similar but a bit more detail in the highs. Depending on what you pair them with, they might annoy you. Whenever I use the M3s with them, I can’t listen for too long and the highs become fatiguing. On the Opus #3, they do quite well and don’t want to stop listening, quite a perfect match. Depending on your source, it may be great or it might be annoying. As before, these are using them wired. ... show more

  • very comfortable and for what you get
Very high quality, very comfortable and for what you get, a very reasonable price. I have Sennheiser wired and wireless headphones and these sound better. They are more comfortable for long sessions than the wireless Sennheisers, the ear cup fits over the ear more comfortably, which creates a quieter base soundstage with a very low amount of background noise. The unit has a wide range of adjustment to fit a variety of heads, making it very comfortable for me on long flights, which was the primary intended use case. Excellent product you will be happy with. ... show more

  • No major complaints
I'll admit I am a bit biased for Focal products, that being said I'm very happy with the purchase. I bought these prior to an 8 hour flight and was quite happy with the experience. While not noise canceling, they do an excellent job at keeping out most of the background static noise. The cups are quite comfy but lengthy wear (5 hours or more) they do start to become noticeable. Again, this was on an 8 hour flight. Otherwise I have worn them doing yard work or around the house and been very happy. The sound quality is quite nice with no muddiness nor excessive highs. The lows will be lacking for those looking for a strong bass punch, but otherwise given the price point I bought them at ($250) I am very happy. As for the build and buttons; the build quality is quite nice in my opinion, nothing feels cheap, but the buttons are a bit lacking since they are rather hard to differentiate while wearing them. Pros - Excellent sound quality for the price Nice build Long battery life Good for background noise reduction Cons - Buttons are a bit hard to use while wearing Lacking a punchy bass Neither of the cons are that problematic for me, but if you're looking for those you may want to do a bit more research on them first. ... show more

  • Nice wireless headphones which can also be used as a headset
Naturally sounding headphones without artificial equalization. Sounds a little brighter but does not annoy me. Insulation is pretty good and I can screen out almost all of office noise. Does okay inside an airplane. This also supports headset profile. But to use it as a headset, you need to reconnect to its headset profile. (This unit broadcasts two Bluetooth profiles to be paired) It can also operate as wired, which is a plus, since I question the benefit of using something at this price range over Bluetooth only. Controls are somewhat difficult to use because of their locations, but overall very satisfied. ... show more

  • Annoying beep between tracksks when using Apple Music
I bought these headphones based on the recommendations of other reviewers and the reputation of the company to put out good products in past experience. I'll start by stating that these cans do sound good at moderate listening levels, the soundstage is very open and well-placed compared to other closed-back headphones I have listened to. The sound is also very accurate; there does not seem to be any boosting of the bass which is a bonus, and the highs are very accurately reproduced on these. The volume of my particular set seem to max out well below ear damaging levels which is nice but leaves me wondering if there may be a problem with the set. Other small issues I have are more to do with the design. For example, these cans use an on/off lever instead of a button, and as far as I have observed will not turn off automatically to preserve battery life. This has not been an issue so far, but I do have a habit of relying on the auto-off especially in the office where these were intended to be used. My biggest gripe with these is that they make an extremely annoying beep when switching between tracks in Apple Music. This doesn't occur in any other applications, so if you are a) not on iOS or b) not using Apple Music, this is probably not a concern for you. I own several bluetooth headphones, and this is the only pair that exhibit this behavior as I read through Apple's forum and users have complained about this problem with other headphones as well. Luckily I can fall back to another streaming service until either Apple or Focal release a resolution to this issue. ... show more

  • Absolutely Amazing!
The clarity and amount of detail is mind blowing. I am hearing things in recordings that I never heard before. The space and sound stage makes you feel like you are in the room with the performers - very natural sound. I listen to a wide variety of music (mostly classical, but also 50s/60s jazz, progressive metal, music from India/Pakistan, etc.) and the sound is superb. I would say they are much better suited to classical/jazz, but other music sounded great also (yet if you listen to classical music buy Focal!...I just wish I could afford the more elite models). Highly recommended! ... show more
