I bought these on a reccomendation from another luthier friend. The old way of doing an instrument neck reset wass to usar steam- messy and potentially hazardous to other parts of the body. I've also used a heat stick-on a soldering iron- but this has the advantage of going into a smaller hole in the fret board- 3/32" so no need for plugging a hole at the fret.

I purchased this with the intent to use it for cutting foam boards for my party business. However, when I cut the foam it burns it and leave a brown and black burn mark on the foam. I clearly can not use this on my foam characters/cutouts.

Hey, it cuts Styrofoam. Works for me. I do suggest that you keep a rag (I use a terry cloth) to wipe the cutting rod off after each cut.; otherwise you will have burnt Styrofoam embellishing your environment with inky binky Styrofoam smells.

It’s ok. It did not give me the perfect cut like like the showed on the video, but my cut’s lines are better that if I use a scissors. Also my hands are lest tired at the end.

This works great!!! Very easy to use and clean. Has made cutting foam SO much easier. NOTE: Make sure you use it in a well ventilated area and wear a mask though as there is vapors.

My shipment arrived quickly and completely. The box & instructions are simple & straight forward. It reaches operating temperatures relatively quickly but the round design leaves a void for any resting position. Once I compketed my "cut", the only stable resting position is on the switch side - not expected but a bit of annoyance hiding the on/off switch. Turning off the device is annoying but with the lighting fast temperature climb, I lean to safety first. One after thought surrounds clean up: no way to escape the melted foam 'strings' (MFS) forming - be prepared to somehow safely remove the MFS or deal with the MFS stench as it burns off the heating element. Even with their rest point deficiency, this tool works well & is a great value packed tool. I wanted to time the cutting of 1" x 24" piesce - it was ready @25 seconds but I waited until 45 seconds to start cutting. Initially, it went really smooth for about the first 6 inches; then I applied a little sawing motion. I'm pleased with the results and have ZERO pieces of styrofoam clinging anywhere.
