UPDATE: I passed the large orange fly boots over to my friend with a small (16hh) solid boned Percheron draft mare, and they are a perfect fit! So, large = small draft. She’s rocking the orange in the updated picture. ——————————————————— The Mylabala fly boots are a set of good quality, easy to use leg wraps that do keep the biting flies off horse legs and reduce stomping. That in turn reduces hoof wall chipping. I know this because my 15hh horse has a set of medium purple Mylabala ones and is not destroying her hooves this summer. When I decided to order a set for my 16.1 paint gelding with longer legs, I ordered the large ones, thinking they would go up a little higher for his longer legs. Unfortunately I did not take into account that large also meant larger circumference. My horse (humorously) walked out the barn and right out of the boots as well. Oops. They will not adjust down to stay on, but that’s not their fault. So take that into consideration when purchasing. Unless you’ve got a stocky legged horse, medium is probably your size. Forget about trying a medium on a pony for the same reason.

So far these boots have worked great for my guy. The built in supports have kept them stiff and not sliding down and the 4 closures have kept them on and not missing at the end of the day like some other boots. They seem to be very durable and well made and I really like the black on my grey horse. I really like the reflective webbing on them as I can hit them with a light at night and see where they are standing in the field. It's nice seeing him grazing in the field without the constant stomping. I think these MIYABALA Fly Boots are of great quality and a excellent price.

The first problem we encountered with these boots was that the ad-stated claim of metallic braces was untrue; the unsatisfactory substitutes were plastic and didn't hold the boots up at all. Very soon after putting them on our horse, they had slipped down about half their length, exposing the lower legs to fly bites. As you can see in the photo, there is no rigidity at all to the boot. The next problem is that they are too wide at the bottom, with no way to sufficiently narrow the opening due to the lengths and location of the 2 Velcro strips. We had to overlap the top strip by so much that there was enough sticking out that the horse was able to bite it. This also contributes to the boots collapsing down toward the hoof. This annoyed our horse enough so that she eventually pulled one off with her teeth, ripping one patch of the Velcro completely off the boot. The orange-colored material is fine at allowing air in while discouraging flies, and will hold up well with use. But I would suggest double stitching and lengthening the Velcro strips. And unless you have a very stout-legged horse, expect trouble getting a tight fit. One plus is the bright color; it made it easy to locate the boot after she pulled it off her leg.

I bought these on July 8, 2025. I put them on my gelding in the am. That evening on bringing him in, One boot was totally ruined as it slipped down and ended up under his foot. Destroying it . The other 3 DO NOT stay up. They are down around his fetlocks daily. I have put him back in his well worn 4 year old Shoofly boots. Poorly made product.

Well I haven't actually put them on my horse but I can tell right away they are not going to last...at least not on a young one. The "metal" support is basically like aluminum foil. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised but I don't think so. One plus, the Velcro seems fairly good.

I am always looking for good quality fly boots, and these definitely fit the bill. The sizing is perfect for a large and the Velcro straps appear to be solid, but only time will tell. I do wish these had a full length Velcro strap down the side for extra support. The stays appear to be strong enough to keep the boot upright, and the soft material at the top will help prevent rubbing sores.
