The bit butter smells like peppermint candy but has no flavor. Yes, I tasted it. I like the consistency. I’m using it with a double and although the horse seemed very interested in the smell there was no appreciable difference during the ride in contact, foaming etc. There were no real issues there anyway, I’m just trying to prevent any winter chapping and make life more pleasant for the pony. I didn’t have an issue with application in cold weather but I did apply it to bits straight out of a warmer so ymmv. It seemed to make the bits a little easier to clean post ride. Overall it seems a tad unnecessary for my particular situation and a bit overpriced but it’s a good sized jar which should last a while. I’ll continue to use it over the winter. ... show more

    • The answer to a horse who won’t accept a bit
One day, my horse decided he wouldn’t take the bit anymore… after 21 years. I investigated every possible cause - pain, dental, etc. There was no issue other than he is an emotional wreck. After battling him endlessly to get him to accept the bit, I started to do research and found this. He really likes it - it smells good too. Must have for cold winters!!! Product does get HARD in the cold weather. I took it out of my Tack box and now keep it in our heated tack room. My Friesian appreciates his ‘lip balms!!

My Clydesdale loves it, he used to fight the bridling process it with patience and reward of the bit bitter he looks forward to taking the bit, and a little dab goes a long way, this container should easily last me a few months
