    • Good as a novelty - not very "smart"
If you want a color-changing bulb that you can control with your smartphone for parties or novelty purposes, this is a great, budget-friendly alternative to more expensive bulbs. I would have loved this as a college student! But if you're looking for something that you can set and forget and can be reliably controlled from anywhere, you will probably want to splurge on the nicer bulbs. PROS: Cheap, bright colors, app now accepts RGB values so you can really get the colors you want, and you can customize the brightness and length of sunrise/sunset mode and set it to turn on by time and days of the week. CONS: Can't change the color of sunrise/sunset mode, didn't always work and bulb lost connection often, and you can't turn off/disable a mode (I have sunrise mode on daily, but if I wanted to sleep in one day, I can't turn it off - I'd have to delete the programmed mode completely and add it back the next day). The biggest problem is that this smart bulb isn't very smart. If I went to bed early and turned off the bulb before sunset mode began, the bulb would turn itself back on so it could go through the sunset mode, rather than just skip the sunset mode because it's already off. I had modes set, but it felt kind of useless, because I found myself turning them on/off or editing them almost any time I turned the bulb on/off.     • Missing some obvious features
I bought 2 bulbs and have them grouped for the same programming to run on both. They work perfectly according to the advertised design. All supported features work for me. And the 2 bulbs stay in perfect sync. But there are some features I expected, that it does not have, that I found VERY disappointing: 1) There is no way to select colors other than the color wheel, so if you are picky about your RGB being 255,255,0 rather than 254,255,1 you are going to spend many frustrated minutes trying to position your finger just right on the color wheel and lift you finger very carefully straight off the screen. 2) Sunset and Sunrise force you to use white. No way around it. You may not have a single color nor a color fade. No pretty orange-red sunset allowed! 3) Transitions only allow you to set color or brightness, not both together. 4) Timers are not allowed to use your custom transitions. 5) Timers have no fade option. When a new timer is triggered, it immediately jumps to the new setting. I discovered #3,#4,#5 while trying to find a way around #2, because #2 was what I intended to use the bulb for. I am planning on buying 2 more bulbs if they add any features that would allow me to create a colored sunrise and sunset. I am planning on returning the 2 I have if they don't. On the plus side 2 complaints I see in many reviews turned out to be myths. 1) It is a myth that you have to keep your mobile device in Bluetooth range for it to work. As long as you keep the lamp turned on, and only ever turn off the bulb using its programming, the bulb will follow its programming without your mobile device nearby. 2) On the Google Play store, the controlling app gets a lot of negative reviews because of how many permissions it needs.     • These bulbs are not good anymore, they cheaped out!

Welp, time to find a different brand! I’ve bought 3 of these things (back when they had the boxier, black design) and they used to be pretty awesome. Got this replacement after my first flux bulb finally died... steer clear, people. These are not the same bulbs anymore. They’ve cheapened out on seemingly everything, and it’s a much worse product. The warm/cool white settings are just as bright as they used to be, but the color settings are extremely dim. I’ve included a photo of the old flux bulb next to the new flux bulb. They’re both set to pure blue, FULL BRIGHTNESS. The new one (right) may as well not even be on, it’s awful. If you’re looking to replace your old flux bulbs just buy something else, this is no longer a quality product. P.S. looks like you also can’t use the same app anymore so if one of your old (read: good) flux bulbs dies and you get one of these as a replacement, you need two different flux apps to adjust both lights, and they can’t be adjusted at the same time. ... show more

    • Works better than advertise - is a perfect solution above the TV :)
We love it, is a perfect solution for our need. We have two recessed can lighted nooks above the TV and wanted to have a way to remotely dim them and add a hint of accent color to better highlight the background (see pic of the beautiful accent (left) vs the over brightened incandescent (right).) Really happy with how easily and more importantly, how quickly, the app finds the Flux bluetooth bulb (or the group of bulbs) - the latter is really nice as you can adjust all the bulbs together to have them match. Why bluetooth, I find that more often than I want, I am forced to switch my phone to LTE when my home WIFI is not performing at top speed, with this bulb I get very quick access to it via bluetooth without having to switch my phone back to wifi. No signs of range issue with the bulb. Turns on very quickly on cold power up, and bluetooth control is also very quick. On the brightness front it is better than incandescent 50W, see the picture with both lights on the white setting, the left is the flux bulb it is a bit brighter than the 50W incandescent on the right - quite refreshing as most vendors like to overrate the brightness of bulbs so was worried about that, but no reason to worry. Some unexpected facts: 1) The box the product is packaged in is very iPhone/Coin like, with a rubbery foam that hold the bulb securely and safely in place, in a very pleasing white box. 2) The app (flux bluetooth) allows the camera to take a pic of the color you want to mimic, pretty cool ;) Like the WIFI Flux bulb, this one also allows music to control the colors, our girls really like that as they sing along to "let it go" ... show more
