  • Won't Work with Xfinity Cable in California
This seemed like the answer to the continuing problems my mother (dementia) and father (blindness) have with messing up the Xfiniity/Comcast remote on their new TV in their assisted living facility in Burlingame, California. They keep accidentally changing the input from HDM1 to TV, and this has caused 6 trips in two weeks to fix it. Long story short: this Flipper remote DOES NOT WORK with the Xfinity cable box that was installed in Burlingame, California in December 2017. Xfinity said there is NO remote like this one on the market that will work with their new cable box. It DOES work with older cable boxes. So disappointed. Wish like hell cable companies would offer a simple remote for the elderly/infirm that just has "on", "off", "volume" and "channel up/down". Ridiculous. ... show more

  • New Version Fixes Problem with Getting Power Out of Sync
Many reviews mention a critical flaw where pressing the power button on the remote will sometimes power the TV but not the cable box. This almost kept me from purchasing the remote, because like many of the reviewers here, that issue would defeat the purpose of purchasing this remote for someone who needs an ultra-simple, hassle-free experience. But there's good news. The most recent version of the remote (V7) - which is what was shipped to me when I bought this on Amazon a couple weeks ago - can be programmed so it only turns the TV on and off, instead of the TV and the cable box. This is what it says in the manual about this feature. To modify the remote so that it only turns the TV on/off: -TV only: Press and hold ADD until the light turns solid, then enter 999. -TV and STB: Press and hold ADD until the light turns solid, then enter 998. I programmed the remote for TV-only, and it's worked great for about two weeks. The cable box stays on all the time, and the power button on the Flipper turns the TV on/off. No problems. I don't think this was mentioned in the instructions that came in the box. If you buy the remote, I'd recommend going directly to the Flipper website (flipperremote.com) and getting the most recent manual from their support page. ... show more

  • “Eureka!” It works! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
The retirement community where my 97 year old grandmother lives has recently changed the television to a new service which requires her TV to be hooked up through a cable top box. For her, the new remote control that came with this change was overly complicated. From her perspective it had more buttons (all of them too little) than would be necessary to fly a commercial plane. I would get phone call after phone call about her TV being "broken". I would drive the 30 minutes to her apartment to find her sitting there looking at a fuzzy screen, or no picture at all, or the volume muted, etc. I tried time after time to explain how to work the remote. But let's be real here... even for most of us those damn things are way more complicated than they have to be. Amazon research to the rescue. I found this Flipper Remote control and installed it this week. It only took a few minutes to set-up and she was happily using it only moments later. I've included a picture (yes, that is her happy face...). I love this remote control. Flipper Big Button Remote, you've added years to my life and, more importantly, life to my grandmother's years. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ... show more

  • Critical flaw, took 85yr old 10sec to mess ups
I had great hope for this, as I am tired of constantly running over to my 85yr's apartment to "fix" the TV and I hate the monthly call with the cable company trying to get them to remove the pay per view and movies she accidentally buys. She only speaks Spanish, so when things go wrong she just starts pushing one of the hundred buttons on the two remotes tying to make things work, So what is so bad about this? They power button only sends a signal for as long as you push it. What this means is that a quick press of the power button may be sufficient to turn on the TV, but not a long enough signal to turn on the cable box. All it takes is a single incident of this and the TV and cable box are out of sync, then when the TV goes on the cable box goes off and vice versa. She has no idea what is wrong and just pushes the button over and over tuning one on and the other off. This needs to be improved to send a burst of a second or two every time the power button is pressed so that there is sufficient signal to make sure both devices are turned on or off at the same time. This one has to go back... ... show more
