Description

The Fiskars Soil Block Maker creates seed-starting soil blocks, which produce healthier seedlings and reduce the need for disposable seed starter trays and pods. Soil blocks encourage strong root systems via natural air pruning while preventing young plants from becoming root bound. This reduces transplant shock, while offering more efficient uptake of water and nutrients when the plants are transferred outdoors. The structure itself provides proper compression of seed-starting soil, ensuring each soil block has the right amount of air, moisture and consistency. Create one 3½ in. block for larger seeds and plants or four 1 in. soil blocks for smaller plants. Additionally, the tool places a hole at the top of each block for easy, optimal seed placement and depth.

I forgot I ordered this and picked one up from a big box store for $12. When this arrived it was a no brainer to return the other one and keep this one. I immediately ran out and dug up a few weeds. Its nice and sharp and slid right into my hard ground, just like you want a knife to do in your kitchen. The other one was thicker, less sharp and did not slide into the ground as easy. I also used the knife portion to cut off part of my sweet potato vine that is in my planter. That stuff grows so well even in the brutal Texas heat, that it tries to take over the pot. I was glad I would just cut off what I dont want. Have some dusty miller that has done the same thing. I cut portons of it off when it takes over. I dont like dragging scissors or box knives out to the flower box, seems I get busy and lay it down, and when I need my house scissors or knife, I dont know where it is. Of course thats my brain issue, but I love having a dedicated tool. The sheath is such a nice extra bonus !! If you want to call it a bonus, its really more of a necessity. With this sheath on I can tuck it under my arm or clip it onto my jeans and move about doing the other things I need to, and not lose it. The other one from the big box store just had a think plastic sheath that is not really a sheath as much as it was part of the packaging. ... show more

I bought this in the Spring and used it all Summer to harvest vegtables. It still looks new. it is super durable and should outlast me. I love the three compartments to seperate the harvest. Two have holes in the bottom so you can rinse off before you get into the house.

When I received the basket I thought it was too big. I planned to return it so hadn't opened the packing for a couple of weeks. Yesterday I was harvesting some tomatillos in my garden and there were so many ripe I needed a bigger bucket. I decided to open up the harvest basket and I am so glad I didn't return it. I was able to carry a pruning sheer and a weeder in the center of the basket and harvest the ripe tomatillos filling the larger side with fruit. Almost returned (Bought by mistake) because more knife than trowel compared to traditional hori hori but Fiskars quality is irresistible - will add to the pruners, loppers, hedge trimmer and pole saw of that brand already in my garden shed.
