It took me several tries to get the pole to extend the full amount. In fact I gave up but then went back to the product listing and looked at the photos to understand that the section closest to the net still needed to extend. It was very difficult to extend this section, and had to give it a good yank, and once I did I see that it was caught on a rivet that hold the net portion onto the handle. This was a poor design. I ordered this dip net because I wanted something compact and portable that I could carry in my tackle bag. When collapsed, it is a mere 16 inches long and 3.25 inches wide. However, when opened, my net extends from 28.25 inches to 51 inches. I couldn’t find any information about the weight capacity of this net, nor could I find any warranty information. The dip net has a hollow aluminum handle with plastic grips and plastic friction locks. The hoop is triangular in shape and is made of aluminum and rubber. The hoop is expanded and collapsed using a spring-loaded thumb latch at the base of the hoop. I would not open and close the hoop over and over for the fun of it because, over time, it will cause the aluminum metal rods to wear down and create a loose condition with the hoop. The outermost horizontal part of the loop is made of rubber or plastic tubing (see photo). This is the case so that the net will fold into a width of 3.25 inches. I wasn’t aware of this construction until I received the net because the web page does not mention this feature. Also, the innermost part of the net is connected to the handle with a nylon tie (see photo). The net is relatively thin and appears to be made of nylon. So far, the dip net does a good job of handling small fish less than 2 pounds. I have not caught anything larger to land with the net. Based on the design and construction features of the net, I am concerned about its long-term durability and its ability to land heavy fish. I acknowledge that any net collapsing into a compact size will sacrifice something in terms of strength and durability, and I am willing to accept those sacrifices to store this dip net in my tackle bag. I do, however, wish the manufacturer was upfront about the design and construction features I mentioned. Overall, I think the value of this dip net is hard to beat given the price point, features, and construction. However, if you think you need something that is heavy-duty, then you may want to consider an alternative product. ... show more
