Pleasantly surprised that the black finish was very dark and thick, so much so that the wood grain is not that noticeable, which I like. I’m not a fan of oak grain but finding what I needed in metal or plastic proved impossible. The front is, in fact, glass. It isn’t plastic or plexi…it’s glass. The mat is a plain mat, nothing special. The back is a heavy cardboard that inserts a specific way! Once you remove it, turn it over, and you’ll see one of the long edges has a thinner ledge cut into it. That edge must be fully inserted into a groove in the frame before dropping the opposite side down. I didn’t know this at first and I was trying to force it down. These are nice simple frames. The focus is on the photos, which is what I wanted. The reason I removed stars is due to the way the hangers are attached on the back. I like the type of hanger but it’s silly to attach hangers to the back cardboard instead of the frame when the back isn’t flush with the frame. The cardboard is inset, not flush. This means the nails must protrude from the wall farther in order to reach the hanger. If the hangers were attached to the frame itself then that would not be necessary and I could use shorter nails then, too. A sawtooth hanger is a much better choice for this frame so I’ll attach my own.

Overall I like the look of these picture frames and even though it has glass in it they are not that heavy to hang. The only thing I didn't care for were the hangers on the back, so I actually attached the gator teeth hooks to hang them. I got this set of two to hang on either side of my larger collage style frame. For now I don't have any family pictures in them, but I have them hung so that when I print out my pictures I can just take them back down and easily put my pictures in. The back opens easily with little black clips that turn in and out of the grooves to hold the back on.

Great quality picture frames. Very easy to put together. It does cut out a little bit of the corners of the pictures but if you don’t mind then you’ll love it. Makes a great gift.

Now that I have 2 kids, I decided I would like to finally get some pictures of at least the first one up around the house. These are cute, a little distressed, nice quality. The mats are a pretty nice thickness, not just paper. The 3 photos make 4x6s look a little more substantial for the wall!
