  • Worth every penny.
Size: Xlarge
It wont split anything bigger then the blade but it makes splitting wood 100x easier. You can get a massive amount of wood split in just a few hours. Im highly satisfied. I currently have it bolted to a flat log i will build a stand in the future for it.

  • Cost effective option to further split firewood
Size: Xlarge
Pretty great. I had some seasoned firewood that had been solid but it wasn’t burning good in our fireplace. Instead of purchasing my own splitter, I got this handy thing and a 3 pound hammer and split the firewood down to sizes that burn more thoroughly now.

  • good basic kindling splitter
Size: Xlarge
The media could not be loaded. It works It comes with lag screws, and you will definitely want to screw it to something. I am thinking of making up a concrete base. It tipped over a couple times when I was trying to get a good video for this review. There are splitters that have a big ring to hold the wood up. That's a nice addition and something I am able to fabricate, but if that is not in your skill set, I would definitely recommend one that has one. I will probably use a 10 pound sledgehammer to pound the firewood once I get it set firmly. ... show more

  • Great little splitter

Great splitter. Not for larger pieces but works well with mid/small pieces!

  • Well Constructed Splitter for Smaller Logs
Size: Xlarge
The XLarge Firewood splitter wedge was the perfect device for making kindling for use in my fire pit. Upon unboxing the splitter, I found it to be constructed of what appears to be zinc coated plate steel welded into the shape of an “A frame” with a very well sharpened upper edge (see photographs). The sharpened edge is covered with a protective plastic sleeve to minimize the potential of the user’s injury. The splitter is constructed in the shape of an “A frame” with the blade extending from the base plate out of the top of the “A frame” by approximately 2 ½” (64mm). This allows you to place a log onto the cutting edge and drive it with a hammer effectively forcing the log over the blade and onto the splitter's sides where the sloping angled walls force apart the log. All of the plates of which the splitter is constructed are welded together to make a solid unit; the welds appear to be very well done. The entire device is constructed of ¼” thick plate steel and has a height from the base to the cutting edge of 8 ¾” (222 mm) and a width of the cutting blade of 5 ⅞” ( 149 mm). The entire assembly is attached to a base plate that measures 5 ⅞” X 5 ⅞” ( 149 mm X 149 mm) having 4 corner holes for placing the included hex head 2 ¾” ( 70 mm ) lag screws . The base plate allows the user to mount the splitter to a surface such as a stump or potentially some type of heavy lumber providing stability during use. I found that the splitter worked very well to split some 1” (25 mm) cedar planking cut offs that I had into smaller kindling when I used a 3 lbs (1.4 Kg) hammer (see pictures). I used the splitter placed onto the floor of my garage without bolting it by its base and it appears to be stable enough for this work. The only difficulty I experienced was the potential for striking of the hammer on the splitter’s cutting blade if the wood split faster than expected. This strike would of course damage the blade and can be prevented by taking your time and limiting the force of the hammer blow (See the attached pictures). I used the splitter on some seasoned oak logs which worked very well. The splitter easily cuts the log into smaller pieces without any difficulty. The biggest log I tried was approximately 5” (127mm) in diameter and was easily handled by the splitter but larger logs could prove more difficult as their diameter approaches or exceeds the width of the cutting blade. I also encountered a problem when I tried to process one oak log with an end that was not cut square to its length. The off square cut translated the force of the hammer blows on the log into a side load against the splitter’s blade. This could cause the splitter to be unstable unless it is firmly anchored by its base plate. While the splitter was able to handle this, the user should take caution with the wood being processed and ensure that the base plate is firmly attached to a support. From my use, I did not observe any damage to the zinc protective coating. While I was not able to evaluate the durability of the coating for an extended time, I would be cautious that if it was exposed to the elements, rust may develop. I would highly recommend the splitter as a good value for the money to process logs or pieces of cut boards provided the user stays within the capacity of the blade and uses an appropriately sized hammer rather than a larger splitting maul. If the user wants to process logs larger than approximately 6” in diameter other methods would be more appropriate. ... show more

  • Works very well for a manual wood splitter.
Size: Xlarge
This wood splitter intrigues me and wanted to give it a try as I will periodically acquire a wood cutting permit to stock up on firewood to use outside at the house. Once I found a round that I liked for the base, attaching the splitter with the included lag bolts took just a couple of minutes. The metal is heavy duty and thick with professional quality welds. I initially tried to split the remaining wood I had at the house with a regular hammer, but that just wasn't doing the trick. I transitioned to a 3lb sledge with a short 9" handle. Most of the old logs that I had were able to be split with one strike to set the log in place and 1-2 more strikes to complete the split. I had a few logs that were super dense oak with knots that took up to 20 strikes before they fully split. In the end, I had all of the cut logs split in short order with minimal effort. For even less effort, I would suggest using a heavier sledgehammer with a longer handle. I am sure that those denser logs would have split with just a couple hits if I was using a 5+lb sledge with an 18" handle. In the end, this splitter works very well and is very easy to use. For a safety note, the splitter is super sharp, securely attached to a stable round of wood, and would be dangerous to fall on. Luckily, the splitter comes with a guard to place over the blade. In addition, I lay the wood round and splitter on its side when not in use as I would hate for someone to trip and fall on it when not in use. ... show more

  • Heavy duty firewood splitter
Size: Xlarge
This firewood splitter is great, but it needs to be inserted in the bottom of a tube/bucket/ring which holds the firewood in place while you hit the wood with a sledge hammer. Once you have the splitter mounted, it performs well. It's made from thick gauge steel and should hold up to many years of use. The product listing claims that the splitter is "ultra-sharp" which is a bit ... generous. The edge is adequate, but not sharp like a knife (or even an axe). But it definitely gets the job done. ... show more
