I like this little log splitter a lot. This is not for chopping or splitting for the winter heating season. But this is great for splitting some medium size pieces into smaller to be used for kindling or just getting the fire going. Definity safer to split wood in place of an axe. This has a nice coating that should prevent it from rusting. There are holes in the bottom in you want to attach it to a bigger stump. If you choose to do this you may want to get some longer screws. The 4 pound sledge is light enough to swing yet heavy enough to split the wood. Sledge has a good feel in handle grip and appears to be a drop forged. You are going to like this for the back yard fire pit, the indoor fireplace or even for camping. Happy Splitting.

Doesnt really work. At least not on hard wood. The 7.5 dia. is wrong, but 5" does fit, but will not splinter the wood. Maybe it needs sharpened before being sent. Unstable on the ground, it needs to be mounted. But not adequate for my needs.

This is a solid durable choice to help you split some logs. If you have a smaller log, just tap on it initially to get it to start embedding it and then chop. Easy and safe. No need to worry about the wood falling and missing with the swing. Overall, a simple and easy tool.

I ordered this splitter to replace a cheap ($25) one I bought online. This one is so much better and worth the extra money. This one uses very thick steel with nice welds. This one came sharp but the cheap one had to be sharpened. This one can cut larger logs without bending. Plus, this hammer is stout. The handle is plastic so if you forget and leave it outside in the rain, it won't ruin the handle. It came with the mounting screws so I mounted it on a stump in the yard which works very well (see photo). Don't do like me and go cheap only to need to get a strong splitter later. I recommend going straight for this one!

PROS: Compact and beefy Came with mini sledgehammer The wedge isn't as wide as some others helping prevent the wood from springing back CONS: Doesn't handle Large Hardwood chunks as well as smaller softwood. VERDICT: Works very well for the intended purpose as long as you keep in mind what the intended purpose is. Very good at splitting firewood into kindling sized wood... Softwood works better than hardwood, but will split manageable sized hardwood as well. HIGHLY SUGGEST mounting the device to a stump for added stability... I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this to anyone with a firepit or fireplace to help make kindling to get that fire going....

The media could not be loaded. So this is quite a bit smaller than I had imagined it to be. But it would be good for probably about an 8-inch log. And it's not quite as tall as I had imagined. But I think it will work just fine. It has a good coating on it to keep it from rusting and the welds are done very nicely. I expect it to last a long time.
