Woks great

  • It works
I stopped using my 275 gallon above ground sled mounted steel diesel tank. At 69 years old, I no longer use my equipment enough to keep my fuel fresh. In 2006 the EPA mandated the reduction of sulfur content in diesel fuel from 500ppm (parts per million) to 15ppm in the US. This included on road highway diesel, and off-road dyed diesel fuels. Sulfur performed two important functions. It added lubricity to the fuel, AND it is also a natural Biocide. At 15ppm the sulfur content is too low to support these two important functions. To offset this deficiency lubricating agents are added at the refining level, but the Biocide function in ultra low sulfur diesel (15ppm) is, in my experience, lacking. Just like Ethanol blended gasoline, the usable shelf life of currently available diesel fuel has been greatly reduced. What does this have to do with the Fill-Rite FR152 hand pump I purchased? I mounted a 40 gallon diesel tank in the bed of my PU truck (gasoline engine). I easily use enough fuel to keep 40 gallon increments fresh, and am able to purchase federal tax exempt off-road dyed diesel on site from my distributor who formerly delivered my fuel. A hand operated piston pump, like the FR152, is ideally suited for a small 40 gallon tank. In case you are wondering, yes, you can mount a filter on this pump. Remove the anti-drain back valve from the top of the pump (# 8 in the parts list). Install it on the side of the pump where the hose goes (remove hose if installed). Install a ~2-1/2" long 3/4" NPT steel pipe nipple with a 90 degree 3/4" elbow attached in the top of the pump where you removed the anti-drain back valve (this is now the pump outlet). Thread in a 3/4" NPT steel pipe nipple into the 90 degree elbow (keep pipe nipples as short as possible). Add a Fill-Rite 1200KTG9075 Cast Iron Filter Head (available on Amazon). Add a Fill-Rite F1810PM0 particulate filter (available on Amazon), or the filter of your choice. Just make sure it will fit the 1200KTG9075 Cast Iron Filter Head. Finally thread your hose into the outlet of the filter adapter. Pipe nipple lengths will vary with individual applications. The FR152 pump is made of cast aluminum, and every inch of added extension from the pump increases leverage. Keep your pipe nipples short as possible. Last, but not least, the FR152 pump is working Great. ... show more

  • Farm Off Road Diesel Skid Tank
I built a skid tank for off road diesel for my Farm Equipment from an old (FREE) 250-Gallon Propane Tank. Removed the propane fill and safety valves. Hole sawed two 2 inch holes in each end of the tank and welded in 2 inch galvanized pipe couplers . One for this Fill Rite FR-152 hand pump and one for the lockable fill cap. I put a 1.5 to 3/4 inch galvanized pipe bushing in the tank fill and used that for a vent with a flame screen. The Fill Rite pump comes with a telescoping suction pipe. I extended it full length before screwing the hand pump in with a pipe wrench and it self adjusted to rest on the bottom of the tank. The first time I used the pump it instantly got prime. Easy to use just like my father had on his farm 60 years ago. NO batteries required ! I opted to buy the Fil Rite filter and installed it as you can see in the picture. Before Ya'll go off thinking I was going to blow myself up. I did remove all the valves and hook up my shop-vac to the tank after turning it upside down and let the shop-vac run for several hours. Do not try this at home if you don't know what you are doing. You can hook up your truck or tractor exhaust to the propane fill and get all the O2 out of the tank as well. But don't do that indoors! By the way. The tank was really rusty. It was wire brushed, primed with self etching primer and a coat of Truck and Tractor enamel (Light Ford Gray available on Amazon) was rolled on with a roller. Tubes that hold the 4x4 skids are 1"x 3" x 3/16" drilled for the bolts before welding on. ... show more

  • Works great. Moves a lot of fuel.
I love these pumps. I have had several throughout the years. Its cool that this is basically the same pump that I used as a kid on the farm, and its still the best way to fuel up small tractors/ equipment. They are US made and rebuildable, although I have never had to rebuild one. I highly recomend as a transfer pump. these arent cheap or have the coolness factor of an electric pump, but I have never had one of these pumps let me down when I needed to move fuel. I have had plenty of electric pumps fail on me. ... show more

  • Also if you want to put a filter like the one commonly advertised as being purchased with this ...
Pump and accessories appear to be very well built. Be aware that there are a few scenarios where this pump will not work well. If you are trying to put it on a gas caddy (Fuel Chief) or something with a handle or other obstruction too close to the tank opening you need 8+ inches of clearance to be able to screw the pump in (the Fuel Chief handle was in the way so it did not work for my application) since you have to rotate the entire pump around to screw it into the tank. Also if you want to put a filter like the one commonly advertised as being purchased with this I'm not sure there is a good way to attach the filter. This is because the hose outlet slopes down so much that the filter interferes with the tank you are trying to put it on. Some unusual combination of fittings will be required to get the filter clear of the tank and level like that type of bowl water filter should be installed. ... show more

  • Good working pump for Jet-A
Had bought a cheap Harbor freight pump first, but wasn’t happy with it. This pump costs 3 times more, but seems to be of good quality and does a good job without any leaks. The pump does not quit deliver the 20 gal with 100 strokes, but so what, if it’s a few more strokes. I use it with a good 10 micron filter and I am happy with it. ... show more

  • Good purchase
Not having used one of these before, I was concerned that it would be a long, tiring process to transfer 50 gallons of fuel. I was surprised by how quick and easy it went though! The pump is well made and easy to install if you have the proper tools (two decent sized adjustable wrenches worked for me). The pump included everything for my application's installation with the exception being I did use more teflon tape than was provided to make sure it all sealed well. I only used it once before hay season ended, but I am very satisfied so far. ... show more
