Description

Featuring a unique modular design, the Festool MFK 700 EQ Modular Trim Router Set is ideal for everything from trimming laminate to routing grooves for inlays. Able to transform from a horizontal router to a vertical router without the use of any tools, the 720-watt MFK 700 EQ pairs a flexible, ergonomic design with advanced electronic controls and excellent dust extraction.Versatile Trim Router Designed for Accuracy Since accurate routing is about both precision adjustment and operator control, the Festool MFK 700 EQ delivers on both fronts. Both the vertical and horizontal bases included with this router offer integrated, ergonomic, guide handles that provide comfort and control while routing, and the router weighs just 4.2 pounds for reduced fatigue. In addition, the MFK 700 EQ's micro-adjustment knob allows you to make incredibly fine 1/256-inch (1/10-millimeter) depth adjustments, and its dual locking knobs prevent movement once the depth has been set.For added flexibility, the router can also be used with Festool's Parallel Edge Guide to create straight, accurate trenches and grooves (not included).Base Plate and Threaded Insert The wide Festool base plates on this router feature materials designed to glide easily, prevent scratches, and create a bearing surface that's both flat and stable--which adds up to improved control and more pristine work. There's never any need to guess where the bit's center falls on your work piece, since MFK 700 EQ bases offer a center line indention on each side that provides for an accurate visual reference point. Plus, the vertical base included with this router features a threaded insert which accepts template guides for improved accuracy and versatility.MMC Electronics for Increased Control and Extended Tool Life Different applications place different demands on your tools, and the MFK 700 EQ provides equally good results when working with a variety of materials thanks to its advanced MMC (multi-material control) electronics. It offers smooth, soft starts that won't harm your work surface, the ability to maintain constant spindle speeds under heavy loads, and variable speed control from 10,000 to 26,000 rpm. And its electronic system includes thermal protection and overload protection, extending the life of the router. In addition, this router features a Plug-It power cord. This interchangeable cord design allows you to quickly switch between Festool tools without changing your entire setup.Quick, Easy Bit and Base Changes Bit changes are quick and easy with the MFK 700 EQ, thanks to a button that locks the spindle in place and allows the collet to be loosened or tightened using a single tool. This set includes a 1/4-inch collet and an 8-millimeter collet for use with a wide variety of application-specific bits. And switching between the included horizontal and vertical bases is completely tool free. All components of the MFK 700 EQ set can be attached and removed without tools. You simply turn the locking knob three times to loosen or tighten the base-locking mechanism.Integrated Dust Extraction Improves Work Environment The dependable MFK 700 EQ also offers integrated dust extraction to help ensure cleaner air for a healthier work environment, better finishes on sensitive surfaces, and longer abrasive and pad life--not to mention quicker cleanups. It includes an effective, dust-extraction hood and a swiveling connector that allows the dust-extraction hose to move freely. When you're not using the dust-extraction hood, a sliding cover on the horizontal base unit prevents dust from exiting the top of the router. The MFK 700 EQ Modular Trim Router is backed by a three-year limited warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee. What's in the Box Festool MFK 700 EQ Modular Trim Router, 1-1/2-degree horizontal base and feeler bearing set, 1/4-inch collet, 8-millimeter collet, dust-extraction hood, Plug-It power cord, standard threaded base for US guide bushing, vertical base, and Systainer storage container. From the Manufacturer A precise trim router for finishing edge banding or light edge routing, nothing compares to the power, ease of use, and modularity of the MFK 700 trim router. The standard base is extremely wide for improved stability in edge forming applications, working near an edge, or working on narrow stock. Precision engineering, and micro adjustments make this trim router a must have item for the worksite or the workshop. The MFK is equipped with a threaded insert to accept standard screw-together style template guides (guide bushings). With over 5 inches (130 mm) of base support from the center of the bit to the furthest edge, the MFK 700 is well suited for those routing tasks that smaller based routers teeter and fumble on such as trimming laminate. With two hand-hold positions the MFK can easily maneuver a variety of contours and with the large hand knob farthest away from the cutter keeping the router firmly planted on a surface while edge routing is comfortable and controllable. The micro-adjustable fine depth control allows the MFK to be accurately dialed into a precise setting for inlay work. The 720 watt (6.0 amp) motor is nearly one horsepower and can perform light to medium routing tasks with ease. The motor has a 9/16 inch (14 mm) total vertical adjustment with full micro-adjustability throughout the entire travel range. The MFK 700 accepts both 1/4 inch and 8 mm collets and is equipped with a spindle lock for one-wrench bit changes. Plug-It detachable cord is interchangeable with other select Festool products and can be removed for safer bit changes, and easier storage and transport. The MFK 700 set version also includes a horizontal base plate and sensor bearing unit to convert the unit from a vertical to a horizontal orientation for precise depth control for trimming edge-banding. This system allows for the use of bearing-less bits to prevent scratches from seized bearings while providing a perfectly flush surface. Made in Germany.

  • Love it
I'm a DIYer so perhaps more expensive than what I needed but for ease of use and getting a really nice final product this thing is hard to beat. I really hate to put hours and hours into a project and know if I just had a little better tool than the outcome would have been a bit better. If my skills are holding me back the final outcome than that is one thing...but if its simply a product than that bothers me. And yes, I have used other methods. Using the router table worked very well but I'm getting older and brining the tool to the panel is a lot easier for me now than brining the panels to the tool. Definetly cheaper ways to get the same results but I can dial this thing it to where it is literally a hair above the panel and cuts the edgebanding so close after one quick pass that there is virtually zero clean up needed. Its a hobby that I enjoy so like all hobbies...they cost money. If edgebanding is part of the way you make your money than this seems like a no brainer. ... show more

  • Another fine Festool product
As with my other Festool purchases, this tool is on the more expensive side, but the quality and functionality is excellent. I especially like the second base that enables easy trimming of edge banding or veneers.

  • Great Router
Great Router. I owned the 1400 but needed a smaller router. This router works great forr cutting dados. I also used it like a plunge router for mortising hing holes by simply lowering into the template and then cutting.

  • Great little router
Great for trimming edge banding and edge treatments. I pull this router out the most for knocking down edges and routing for back panels. Only down fall is you can't see the bit so inlay work is out and when using the horizontal base you can only trim 5/8 of an inch.

  • Versatile but not a general purpose router
This is a funny specialized tool. It does certain cuts very well and within its limited capacity it functions as a substitute for a lipping planer like the Lamello or Hoffman. Those machines have greater capacity but will not function, as the MFK700 will, as regular laminate trimmers. The MFK is precisely made. It's depth adjustment is very limited however and even a sub-$100 laminate trimmer will provide more capacity in terms of depth adjustment. Where the Festool excels is in making highly controlled cuts to edge bandings, both in the more common position you'd use a standard laminate trimmer in and in a sideways position with a special base, included in the kit. The question is not whether you can make the same cuts with cheaper tools. You certainly can. Properly set, however, the MFK becomes practically fool-proof and can go a long way to preventing workpieces spoiled by the inattentive and accidental tipping of a regular laminate trim router. If Festool would meet user demand and actually make a plunge base for this tool, it would be truly awesome for all kinds of light mortising and grooving. Festool seems reluctant however, probably expecting such a release would hurt sales of the OF1010 plunge router, which is also a useful and well-engineered tool. There are a couple of little accessories for the OF1010 that allow that router to imitate the special functions of the MFK700 kit. If you only occasionally need the special trimming features of the MFK, you might find the OF1010's versatility a better option for you. ... show more
