  • Ingenious... Just the right size... although feels slightly underdesigned
I got exposed to Festool about 3 years ago, and followed the standard path which the dealers describe as "one has to convince the customer only to buy his first Festool tool. After that, on the second year, an average customer buys five more Festool tools". This little tool is interesting. For one thing, it is not as outrageously high priced as many other small things (especially accessories) which Festool makes. In fact, its price is quite reasonable for a hand-held sander. It is ingenious in the sense that it fills the niche left behind by half-sheet manual sanders. It is nice a small, works great for sanding small parts, and its narrow end can fit into tiny crevices. The fact the sanding paper is attached with velcro makes it very stable and makes swapping the paper very quick and easy. The paper stays where you put it, does not slide off, and does not get loose. The side of the bottom of the sander is about 15 cm by 7.8 cm. The abrasives are longer, 46x178 mm, because the straps of paper wrap around that narrow part on the front. The narrow part is a great idea for sanding into narrow passages, e.g., mortises. Sanding paper is available in several grits as well as a mix and is priced reasonably ($6 for a package of 10 strips). Festool's sanding paper is known to be robust and strong, it does not wear out easily. The reason why I think it is under designed is that it is made of slippery plastic, with nothing on its sides to make it sit firmly in the hand. I am tempted to attach something like good quality velcro or even just pieces of duct tape to make it less slippery. I cannot understand why Festool engineers, after they came up with this block, stopped short of making it user friendly. However, even with this note, I still think that functionality-wise it is the best sanding block that I ever had. It is one of those things that is good to have in your apron pocket. I was tempted to rate it 4 stars because of the slippiness, but then it is such a cute little sanding block, and so functional... So I ended up rating it 5 stars. On April 1, 2015, Festool will increase its price from $16 to $17; pricing for abrasives for this block will not change. UPDATE AUGUST 2015: After I used this block for a while, I like it more and more. It is just the right size for hand sanding, and works great when you have to get into tight corners. I have other sanding blocks, and I found myself no longer using them. ... show more

  • Excellent.
Nearly use it in every sanding portion of a project. This is a very helpful tool. I’d buy it again if I lost mine. Is worth having around after you use it. You’ll see for yourself.

  • Amazingly convenient and useful
This little block is a big help. I'm building and finishing some cabinets for our master bedroom. They will take up a space that is 10' wide and 8' tall. I have found this extremely helpful. It is a snap to change grits, the paper available is an exact match for the block, the block is just the right size and it cuts my sanding time significantly. I find this especially useful in sanding my face frames and drawer openings before finishing and in between coats of finish. ... show more

  • Great Design, Light Weight, does exactly what you need
This piece of light plastic does exactly what you need, can get every spot what I need it to. Front bendable tongue works great too. Can place Velcro sanding pads past the edge to get right in any tight corners, so great for sanding mouldings. Only complaint is it takes too much off with 80 grit and clogs paper (stripping paint off window mullions) Block is so good I'm buying another one with more sandpaper/pads ... show more

  • It's a Festool, cordless too, you supply the power.
What's so special about this hand sander, well it's a Festool. Of course it takes Festool sandpaper, which is Velcro backed, so you can put it on, take it off, which is good, and it sticks and stays in place, and sands great. Is it worth the bucks, well probably not. Don't get me wrong, Festool electric sanders, which I have are great, worth the cost. But, 16 bucks for a hand sander, without little thumb indentations, eh. ... show more

  • Modest yet mighty tool.
Construction Quality From the get-go, the sanding block exudes the build quality you would expect from Festool. It's solid, sure to withstand the test of time and the rigours of constant use. This isn't a tool you'll need to replace any time soon, making it a fantastic investment for any serious craftsman. Ease of Use The user-friendly design of the sanding block is one of its standout features. There's no need for the unnecessary hassle of clamps or messy adhesives that I've battled with on lesser models. The StickFix system is revolutionary; applying and changing the sandpaper is a breeze. Just align the sandpaper backing with the block, press down, and voila! It grips securely, ready for action. ... show more

  • Ok for the price but not usual Festool quality
There are two main quality issues with this block. First, the plastic extension is very flexible and bends with light pressure reducing the pressure you are able to apply. It also stays slightly bent due to the shear forces with the sandpaper and won't straighten until you remove and re-apply the paper. Second, the velcro is just a cheap adhesive backed type stuck to the plastic. It is very coarse compared to the hooks on say an ETS sanding pad for example. They don't hold the loops on the sandpaper well and it falls off at the edges and corners despite pressing it on repeatedly. The large velcro also acts as a soft padding whereas I'd prefer this block to be hard for sanding edges square. I'd gladly pay for a quality sanding block in this form factor as it's a great size. Please improve the bendy plastic material and velcro backing and charge what it costs. ... show more

I have 10 of these one for each grit size. I hand sand all of my furniture projects. Great product.
