Better than expected

I really like what this this Texas Special guard did to my chambered Player II. I've tried several loaded pick guards over the years but wasn't that impressed with the sound improvements from them. Also received at least one in the past that was improperly wired so I was a bit apprehensive. This Fender Texas Special however, was worth every penny. Great stratty tones and provides a significant improvement with gain and sustain over my stock electronics. ... show more

Fender makes several different pickguard replacements like this. So I'm only speaking for the Texas Special. First of all I saved 60 dollars buying from amazon instead of Fenders web site. Sorry Fender. I installed this on an inexpensive Squire Strat that I bought from the NRA as a fundraising promotional. The Squire looked bad ass but I wasn't expecting much in the way of sound quality. As expected the pickups on the Squire were low budget at best. Very thin tone, no bottom end. I picked the texas special because i got to hear how it sounded on fenders web site. Very Important move on my part. The sound blew me away but would it sound that good on my cheap Squire. After an easy installation came the real test and it didn't disappoint. The Squire has a low end growl that was never there before. The tone is amazing. It's now one of my favorite guitars and I have a half dozen. If there's a fire in the house I have to make sure I grab this one. The cheap Squire sounds like a 1,000 dollar strat. At least, maybe more. Check the fender web site before buying and listen to the demos. You won't be disappointed. ... show more

Just OK
Color: Black Style: Pre-wired Pattern: Pickguard
I replaced a budget guitar pickups with Texas Specials. Definitely am improvement but not close to the sound of a real stratocaster. No matter where the pickup height is, the high three strings have a muffled/muted sound.

Don’t recommend
Color: Black Style: Pre-wired Pattern: Pickguard
Pick ups sound great but the wiring was completely messed up, neck tone control pot didn’t work. Another little thing, all 3 knobs were labeled tone. Next time I get new pickups I definitely won’t buy them pre wired with a pick guard.
