    • A lot for the money, glad I bought it
I bought this 4 months ago not knowing if I would stick with learning guitar. I bought the rock prodigy app for my iPad which has turned out to be an outstanding app for learning guitar. Now I've decided to keep learning and just moved up to a better, more expensive guitar. But this starter one Is great bargain and what I needed to help me decide if I would stick with it or not .The tuner quit after 2 hours but there are free tuner apps out there that work great so that did not bother me. The only con in my opinion is that my guitar/amp combo hums . That's why I later went with a more expensive guitar with active pickups. I would still recommend this combo to anyone just starting out on guitar. I think the amp is fine, despite what other reviewers say. I also have a fender mustang 2 amp. And while the mustang amp sounds clearer and louder , the amp included with this kit is totally fine for someone just starting out. And its loud enough for me too . The only addition to this kit you need is a guitar stand. Amazon sells some good ones for about $13. The guitar looks well made. I can't see any flaws no matter how close I look. The rounded edges on this guitar and its light weight make it very comfortable to hold while playing. It comes set up to play. All I had to do was tweak the tuning a bit and it was ready to play. Being a beginner electric guitarist means I have essentially little to no knowledge about what's good, bad or indifferent. So I asked a friend who is an accomplished guitarist/bassist what he thought of the setup and he was impressed. There is a little bit of fret sprout but not enough that it is detrimental to a beginner and I'm told fixable if I want to. Otherwise the build quality (based on external appearance only) is pretty good. I haven't opened it up to see the quality of electronics, soldering etc but it sounds good. I would say the only downside is that even without using the whammy bar, it wanders out of tune much easier than my acoustic and spanish guitars (and I'm nowhere near seriously bending notes yet). This is my first electric guitar so I'm not sure if this is normal or not. The 15g Frontman amp is good for various clean tones as a practice amp but if you want any distortion at all or reverb, you're going to have to buy additional hardware. I guess my only frustration is with the vendor in that the package is promoted as having free online lessons but the link on the coupon the vendor supplies with the package (fender.com/ab) is dead. When I contacted them about it, they simply said to use the normally available free two weeks that Fender will give you if you sign up to them at fender.com/play. Not a biggie but misleading in my mind...a bit of "bait and switch". ... show more

This was the PERFECT set for my son, who has had an acoustic guitar for several years and had been begging for an electric. We made him wait until his 12th birthday and it was a huge hit! The colour was just as pictured and everything listed was included. The guitar works perfectly, as does the amp. He was able to figure it all out on his own, except for attaching the whammy bar, which my husband put on for him. We were worried that it would end up being too loud for a condo, but the amp can be turned down quite low. 😊 The instruction DVD is very helpful, too. I would recommend buying a stand for the guitar, as they are heavy and don't stand up well on their own. This was an excellent value and should last him for many years. 🎸 ... show more

    • Great First Time Players' Kit
There is very little negative to say about this kit, so I will leave the negative to the end. The guitar is far more a quality instrument than I have the skill to play to its limits, and chances are that balance will remain for at least a couple of years. Admittedly, this is not a guitar for people who make their living playing guitar, but for the beginner it is a great way to get into music. The amp is all that I need for solo jamming, and all the other accessories suit their purpose well. The instructional DVD is just a teaser to get the player to buy the full version (which I did, from Amazon). The guitar stays in tune for a remarkably long time given my newbie flailing about on the strings. I purchased a distortion pedal (again, from Amazon) for $25 to get the sound that I like, since the amp doesn't produce that kind of noise. Two less-than-stellar notes: the plastic laminate on the pickguard was peeling away from its white base starting the moment I unboxed the guitar (and the pickguard itself does not lie flat on the wood body - it's a little wavy in two spots), and the jackplate (the metal piece surrounding the hole where the jack plugs in) has already started to show signs of eroding (I live in an unusually humid climate). I would buy this again, as it suits its purpose perfectly! ... show more

I'm a beginner and This is just my inexperienced opinion but love this guitar, the wood grain is nice and the finish is very glossy. The tuners could be better but that's really all I have found that I'd change. I just got it Saturday and I've messed with it about 10 hours. The strap is nice and I plan on getting Strap locks, the amp is small and loud I love it. The accessories is perfect for someone just starting out, especially the three picks. While I'm looking at the guitar now I've noticed the pick guard is cheap looking and chipped on the edges I defiantly plan on changing that. The gig back is nice too but I wish the pack came with a stand. But all in all This pack is great for beginners or for someone to practice on. I purchased the transparent blue and I love it. ... show more

I am an adult beginner and am totally satisfied. The guitar and amp are both excellent quality and have great sound - from melodic and smooth to crunchy hair band powerchords. I am very impressed. Although I consider it to be minor, there were no picks included and the included training dvd was shattered. Also, the little electronic tuner is awesome because it’s quick and easy. ... show more
