  • It works perfect for my use
Style: Mini Configuration: System
I bought this for small acoustic gigs. The sound is clear and loud enough to cover 25 - 50 people in a casual setting. I use this as sound reinforcement for me and my guitar (or banjo or uke). It works perfect for my use, and I do not need to drag along a PA. Buy this if you are looking at a Bose mini or Fishman solo, or any of the small acoustic amps out there, but do not need to address 100s of people and are not in a band with drums, etc. A bonus I was not prepared for was how good the amp modeling was on this unit. The old electric guitar has been dusted off and I am having a ball playing in the living room! I wouldn't hesitate to use the line out to a board in a full band situation (not sure if the Mini would be loud enough for monitor duty - it might be in a not-so-loud band, but I can always request a monitor from the board). Back in the day I was a die hard tube fan, and have owned many Fender, Marshall, Vox (and countless other) guitar amplifiers. The organic sound of tubes coupled with the ability of these amps to translate finger sensitivity and dynamics made them far superior (in my opinion) to any solid state amp. I bought one of the first Line 6 modeling amps, but was not impressed. Over the years, I have purchased or played through many modeling guitar amplifiers, pedals, and computer programs, and they have gotten better. The modeling effects on the Passport Mini are amazing (and I have yet to explore the "Fuse" software application, which I am sure will open up many more sound possibilities). I wish I would have been able to buy this back in 1969; I would have saved thousands of dollars and a lot of back aches! ... show more

  • Great little amp/pa for self-accompaniment!
Style: Mini Configuration: System
I consider the new Passport Mini to be more of a guitar amp than PA... and that is really where its value lies. The amp modeling in this little busker is split evenly between acoustic and electric amp models and the Mini takes my Fender Tim Armstrong Hellcat concert acoustic/electric and my Fender American Standard Stratocaster equally well. The fact that it works well with electric guitars is what sets it apart from other "micro PAs" as well as other small acoustic amps - most of which also include XLR inputs for vocal mics. The DSP (digital signal processing) in the Passport Mini is the same used in Fender's highly acclaimed Mustang line of modeling amps and the 65 Twin Reverb and 57 Champ models will really bring a smile to your face especially when you consider the tone is coming from a box you can hold in the palm of one hand! The acoustic models really enhance my Hellcat's tone as well. Those wanting more tonal variety and deeper editing will find the Fender FUSE software compatibility (again, the same program used in Fender's Mustang line and the popular G-DEC amps) very easy and intuitive to use. This little gem isn't going to replace 100 watt or higher PA systems and it cannot accommodate a duo unless one person is only singing and the other is only playing. What it is perfect for is for those who self-accompany and play for intimate small room audiences, or poolside, campfire side, street corner busking and the like. For those types of gigging, you can do very well with just the Passport Mini, your acoustic/electric or electric guitar and a dynamic mic and mic stand... no need for pedals or stompboxes or any other muss or fuss! Very simple and highly portable! ... show more

  • And best yet, it's much cheaper
Style: Mini Configuration: System
I sold a 55-lb Behringer 2-channel amp because I threw out my back every time I lifted it into or out of the trunk for gigs, and I was over it. I was in the market for the Fishman Loudbox Mini, because a friend had used it at her gig, and I was impressed--and it was only 20 lbs! But when I started shopping for my replacement amp, I ran across this one. It's obviously intended to compete with the Roland cube, but is even smaller than the 2-channel one available. It's only 7 pounds! And best yet, it's much cheaper! I figured for $149, I could give it a try, and if I hated it, I could send it back. But I'm keeping it, and am in love. It's just what I need for the level of gigs I play. I'm what I'd call a serious amateur, playing coffee houses and porch fests and the like, and it seemed like this would fit the bill for the kind of gigs I do. As I really don't get into fiddling with a zillion knobs for the perfect sound, this is about right for me. I had it figured out after reading the 2-page instructions. It has 24 presets, plus effects on top of that. Both the guitar and the vocal sound is warm and rich. The volume seems adequate, too, but if it's not, you can run it through a PA system anyway (which I have from my band days, but that seems like overkill when I'm singing and playing alone at a small gig.) I (and my back!) are thrilled with it. ... show more
