Someone gave me an old Fire 7 last year, and I've been getting by with whatever micro USB charger I had on hand. I knew they were necessarily fitting right, because of slow charge and the device kept making a ding whenever the connection wasn't complete. But hey, being lazy I got by on that method until one day recently, the Fire tablet wouldn't charge. Well, it's old so I thought perhaps it had reached the end of it's lifespan. For my minimal use on the device which is solitaire and the rare Kindle book, I figured I'd try purchasing an approved charger before going all in on a new Fire tablet, which I will do sooner than later. This charger plugged in an boom, it starts charging right up so indeed it was the charger that was bad, not my trusty old tablet. I love that this is a 2-in-1 charger also because surely if and when I get a new device, it will have the larger port and this will make a good backup charger or - if the tablet does crap out and I don't want to get a new one, I can use the larger charger for another device. Great value for two cords! The first, shorter cord, did not last long on my Amazon tablet with a loose contact. The second, longer cord with two option size inserts works like a gem and ordered a second for my sister's stocking stuffer.
