Works great. First winter with it. 300 gallon tank streaming in the cold. Works great through single digit temperatures . I'm sure it'll handle any weather it is given . For the reviews that say it leaks I would add they did not install it correctly. If installed right it does not leak at all.

Decent heaters. One broke and the company sent us a new one without question. Make sure you do not use a large vat of water with these. They are only meant for small amounts of water. If there is too much water, they will burn out because they never shut off.

I don’t often write reviews, but in north Texas, about an hour south of the Oklahoma border. We get extremely cold conditions from time to time in the winter. In the past I’ve chipped out the ice in the water troughs, so there would be water for my cows to drink. This year I invested in this trough heater, and it’s doing a fantastic job. I plugged it in two weeks ago, before the cold weather started. This morning is 9° outside my pond is frozen over, the other trough is frozen over, but the water is clear and unfrozen in this trough. It pairs amazingly well with the Rubbermaid 100 gallon plastic water trough , I highly recommend it. Another review that I read mentioned that they install it every spring and reinstall it early winter. I’m going to follow their recommendations, so it’s not in the trough all summer long in the heat we have down this way… ... show more

Even though we usually have mild winters here in SC, this year has been cooold! After having to chop inch-thick sheets of ice from the trough, and the concern of dehydrated horses not like cold water, I bought this heater. It installed easily, with no leaking. Being at the bottom of the tank, my "Dennis the Menace" horse leaves it alone, and I have not had to chop ice. The temperature is comfortable, and my horses don't hesitate to drink now. The only negative I can see is the cord- I wish it were a bit longer. The price is a little high, but since I'm not chopping ice sheets anymore, it's totally worth it! ... show more

After having many of the drop-in tank heaters of similar wattage, we tried this model since it was not accessible for the horses to fling out or eat the cords. We are VERY happy with this heater. MN has had some of the coldest and snowiest days on record this year, and even during our prolonged periods below zero (f) and -40+ windchills, this heater has kept the tank free. I've not needed to break ice even once this year, whereas, with the other units, it was a daily frustration. Could not be more pleased with this tank heater, and would suggest it to anyone in cold weather regions. No issues installing or getting the fit right in the rubbermaid tank! ... show more
