Jason Blake, like most entrepreneurs, started small. Jason grew up working in his grandfather’s apple orchard, where he was tasked with keeping algae from clogging the pumps in the irrigation ponds. While this was a daunting assignment for any teenager, Jason soon realized that if he could control the algae, it would keep the pumps clean and he would have a place to swim, fish, and play hockey. In 1994, what began as a family task became a passion for 15-year-old Jason. As word spread through his small town, neighbors began asking for his help caring for their ponds. Before long, he needed an employee who had two essential things he didn't have—a truck and a driver's license. That simple decision marked the humble beginning of a company built on hard work, family values, and a love for helping people enjoy their ponds. In 1996, Jason graduated high school and continued growing his pond business while attending Michigan State University. That same year, he officially named it The Pond Guy. By 1998, his passion for helping pond owners grew beyond his hometown. The Pond Guy ClearVac Pond Vacuum can be used in any koi pond, fishpond, water garden, or water feature to perform regular maintenance. Remove sludge/muck, algae, and debris up to 3/8". The vacuum can be used on a regular basis without having to remove your fish or drain your pond. The dual chamber reservoir and auto discharge feature of the pond sludge vacuum allows for continuous use without having to wait through time-consuming discharge cycles. With 4 included attachments, a 13' power cord, and rigid extensions, you will ensure every inch of your pond is comfortably within reach. With a clear intake extension, you can monitor the debris going into the pond sludge vacuum. The Pond Guy ClearVac is capable of collecting particles up to 3/8". The vacuum is designed to perform at its best above 7 feet; anything deeper will result in less suction. The Wide Nozzle is ideal for large flat areas without gravel. If you have a more formal pond with a concrete bottom, this is a great pond cleaning option. The Gravel Nozzle has a slider which adjusts from 2mm to 10mm, allowing you to clean the muck out of your gravel pond bottom. The Narrow Nozzle is great tool for cleaning out small spaces, hard-to-reach places, and crevices between rocks. The String Algae Nozzle has a wide opening that will pull all the algae strings in, letting you grab the growth and scrape it off. A pond vacuum is not a shop vacuum, and it's not designed to be. A pond vacuum is designed to be a more controlled, steady cleaning tool, allowing you to clean your pond without harming your fish or disrupting the delicate aquatic habitat. The ClearVac is designed to remove sludge, muck, algae, and debris up to 3/8 of an inch, that’s about the size of a dime. Before using your vacuum, remove large leaves, twigs, and acorns with a pond net. The ClearVac pond vacuum also comes with a debris bag. You will achieve optimal suction if you place the ClearVac at the same level as the water. Your intake and discharge hoses should remain fully extended, not coiled or kinked. When vacuuming, you will get the best results if you move the intake hose in a slow, uniform fashion. How big of leaves can the vacuum remove? The ClearVac pond vacuum is designed to remove pond muck, leaves, algae, and debris up to 3/8" - about the size of a dime. The vacuum is ideal for small to medium-sized debris such as small pine needles and small leaves. Large leaves, twigs, acorns, and other large items should be removed with a pond net prior to vacuuming. What do I do with the water I vacuum out? Do not return water from the discharge hose back to the pond. Returning the water will only return the excess nutrients, muck, and small debris. The discharge hose and debris bag can be safely run to nearby landscape or garden beds. The excess nutrients removed from the pond act as an excellent fertilizer for other plants. Where do I place my ClearVac? For best results, position the ClearVac at or near water level. You will achieve optimal suction if the unit is placed at the same level as the water. How much water will I lose with each use? You should expect about a 10-25% loss of water. A pond vacuum is designed to be a controlled cleaning tool, so that you can clean your pond without disrupting your fish or the aquatic habitat, and without draining your entire pond. Can I use an extension cord with the pond vacuum? Yes, the ClearVac can be used with an extension cord, but it MUST be a 10 or 12-gauge outdoor-rated extension cord no longer than 50 feet.
