This belt is a mixed bag. I’m seriously overweight, and there are some aspects of this belt that don’t work well for me personally, but overall, I still find it is generally superior to more traditional cloth/leather belts. Good stuff: The webbing seems durable with no discernible stretch. When it is tightened, it stays tight, and it doesn’t roll even under my substantial girth. On first glance, the ratcheting/latching mechanism looks like it is going to be uncomfortable, but I was surprised by how little I felt. The underside of the buckle didn’t cut into me, and it was only after more than seven hours of slouching forward at my desk that I noticed my belly was getting a sore spot from the top of the buckle. It is hard to describe, but my point is that I had been wearing it for weeks and hadn’t noticed anything until that point. It is way more comfortable than it looks. The buckle has a tension release lever that makes it easy to quickly remove the belt, even when you realize you’ve had too many beers and nuts and need a fast visit to the nearest toilet. Lastly, in spite of having no particular mechanism to grab onto, the ratcheting mechanism holds securely (with a caveat below) Not so good: The release mechanism can be triggered by the zipper area on your jeans (mine, anyway). This can be overcome by adjusting the buckle of the belt left or right or “center”. My belly mostly conceals where “center” is, but on someone else it might look a bit odd. Then again, if you lack the big belly to mask the buckle, maybe you won’t have such a hard time with the release either. The only other sort of negative mark is that the loose end of the belt goes behind the secure part of the belt. This is one of those things that is probably more of a problem for me than for someone who has more of a butt or is simply in better shape. For me, it can be hard to get as much tension as I would like, and then having achieved that tension, it can be hard to get the loose end tucked in. Even though it can be a bit uncomfortable and require more than one attempt, the smaller increments of adjustment make it a lot easier to get the belt, “just a little tighter.” I think my ideal version of this belt would be a similar design, but one where the loose end lays atop the tightened belt and it would have some clever way of protecting the release mechanism without making it noticeably more difficult to release the belt. I love that there isn’t a tension adjustment “region” like there is on another belt for which I’ve seen ads. I have hopes of losing at least some of my weight, and I like the idea that I don’t need to worry about either outgrowing or un-growing tot he point that this belt will have to be replaced for those reasons. ... show more

This is my first time owning this type of belt. And I must say, where has it been all my life! The ratchet design is very nice looking and easy to use. The release button is a little tough to find sometimes depending on how you put the belt on. I would recommend that you have the release button on top for easier use. So this means that you string the belt through to the right of your zipper instead of the left. This belt is highly recommended, especially for use bigger people. I have a bit of a gut and putting on traditional belts, although easy enough, does have some mild irritations. This belt eliminates the need to find the correct notch blindly, and having to tuck in the left over strap. You just tighten it to your desired length and the left over strap is already hidden behind the belt at this point! ... show more

If you are in between two of the available sizes, get the larger one. There's nothing wrong with buying a belt that is too big in this kind of purchase because the extra material does not cause a problem, so get the larger size of the two sizes that you are considering. Mechanism is strong, material is strong. A much more affordable type of belt than the ones that are marketed on the internet. . Personally I see this as an outdoor recreation type of belt, Ideal for hiking, fishing, Etc. It is interesting to me that it is marketed as a dress belt. ... show more

This is my go to belt now. The leather ratchet belts periodically tear at the connection, which isn’t a deal breaker, but makes me less likely to use them. This web belt is very strong and I haven’t had any issues. I strongly recommend if you want to try a ratcheting belt.

I've been wearing these FAIRWIN ratcheting web belts daily for six months and enjoy these belts much more than the traditional belts with the holes and clasps. The ratcheting buckle works very well and allows for perfect adjustments to my size. My only complaint is that the black finish on the buckle is prone to scratches if you rub up against a hard object. A better paint job for the buckle would make it the perfect belt solution. At the low price, I'll probably just buy another of these belts if the buckle gets to scratched for my desire. ... show more

That picture is after 2 days of use. I have a variety of buckles and none of them look like that even after months to years of use. I've also never paid so little for a belt. Aside from the cosmetics of buckle, the belt itself is definitely better than most. I like the design and feel of it, especially how the buckle is fastened to the belt. The belt itself feels sturdy enough to hold a good amount of weight without compromising its integrity. I just hope it holds out better than the buckle, because buckles aren't the issue I have with belts. ... show more
