Comes with 3 large hunks of smooth clay. Being smooth, however, means it's harder to work with. The kids had to make thick pieces, else they'd slump. Being thick means it took a really long time to dry. But the kids had fun, and that's what counts.

This product comes with a lot. Plenty of tools and paint to keep my kid busy. The clay was too wet and needed to be dried out some. The wheel is not strong at all. So don’t think you potters out there are centering anything on this. Let the kids just have fun making crooked pots and hand building. There’s no variable speed for the wheel and it takes C batteries instead of an outlet plug. It’s a little noisy but not too bad. Overall I would buy it again. Good toy! ... show more

I Have had a lot of pottery wheels growing up, and this kit by far was the best I have ever seen. My daughter kept asking for a pottery wheel for her 4th birthday so I started reading reviews and found this to have the best rating. I am pleased I read through because this is great. We had so much fun molding clay and using the wheel to make little vases and pots! It has two different types of paints so they can choose which style they want it to be. More pottery looking or a higher gloss. It came with lots of tools that my daughter live experimenting with. The wheel is sturdy and not cheap and flimsy like ones I had as a kid. It worked well and actually it took some Getting use too because it wasn't intermittent like cheap ones I have had before. It moved at a steady fast pace. It almost felt like a miniature version of a real wheel!! I think the price is very fair for the quality. We will enjoy doing this together for years to come!! My daughter absolutely loved doing it and it was a great activity for us to do together!! ... show more

I'm going to give it 5 stars. If you're not familiar with pottery wheels like me and my daughters, it will be interesting to say the least. The instructions and the information about pottery was very informative. You will get the feel of doing it properly if you're patient. It's messy fun so make sure you're prepared to get your hands dirty! It takes just the right amount of water combination to get that good consistency for "throwing"(making the pot). It slides around the wheel at first before centering but it will center. It takes some practice indeed but a fun project. You can also make other fun items like ornaments, or beads for a necklace so the possibilities are not limited to pots only. I was worried about the power pushing the petal but surprisingly it wasn't bad at all. A little loud so don't try to watch a movie while doing it. My 8 year old son loves his new pottery! It's perfect for a first time, just learning wheel. It is fairly noisy but what childs toys aren't? I'm used to noise in my house. It does require parent or adult supervision and help, so if messy isn't your thing as an adult, don't buy it. We set it up on a small folding table in our kitchen, I do NOT recommend using this on carpet! You will have clay pieces fall on your floor. I made "aprons" out of old big shirts, the plastic one it comes with is about as sturdy as 1 ply toilet paper. Overall, I'm very happy with wheel, we plan to purchase firing clay and take our creations to our local craft so to have then fired. It's my understanding that that type of clay is easier to work with. You will find that the one it comes with is very sticky and after the pieces dry they do flake apart fairly easily too. Like I said though, as a beginning wheel for a small child, it's perfect and we're very happy with it! ... show more
