This took me about 4 hours. I grabbed some beverages and put on a tv show in the background and took my time. The extremerate installation video is helpful for some parts. But they neglect to remove the thumbsticks BEFORE removing the screen. So I didn't follow their sequencing. Removing the screen on the oled took about 45 minutes alone. I had a soldering station heat gun but that adhesive is very thick and stringy like a cheese pizza. The finished product is pretty sweet. It doesn't snap together as satisfying as the OEM shell. But it's secure. I installed the extremerate clicky button mod too and new holofect joysticks. End result is a solid 9/10. Love it. Would recommend it if you think you can handle screws the size of ants and about 4 hours of rebuilding.

If you know what a "ribbon cable" is you're more than capable of performing this swap. Just watch out for when you go for the screen, it's definitely the trickiest part. As far as complaints... The kit includes new screws, which is great, however they're barely organized and almost look the exact same. If they were in labeled bags I'd say they'd be far more useful and could save you the hassle of organizing your OEM screws. It's certainly a four-hour endeavor regardless. The video guide they provide is nice enough, perhaps a bit too much camera movement and missing important angles of seeing how the ribbon cables are inserted. I'd much rather have had a standard written guide. Having to rewind and pause and I pause the whole time added a solid 10 minutes to the process. The included tools are *fine,* and appreciated in the sense that you don't need external tools save a hairdryer/heat gun, but save yourself the headache and use whatever screwdriver sets you already have. The handles are uncomfortable and are so poorly magnetized they can barely hold the miniscule screws. I had to go back in and fix something (my mistake, d-pad was rotated 90°) and using my iFixIt kit was a million times better. Also, I avoided the touch pad replacement. That looked like an absolute terrible idea and they even note it's the only part you can't undo. Lastly, they don't tell you how to test to make sure everything's working. Under controller settings on the steam menu there's a testing feature that walks you through all the buttons and sticks and whatnot. The product itself is perfect for what it is and fit the OLED model without problem, with all buttons working as intended. Worth the price and time investment IMO, just don't expect a painless process to get there.

I recently installed the eXtremeRate Replacement Full Set Housing Shell with Buttons for my Steam Deck OLED, and it has completely transformed the look and feel of my device! This kit is a game-changer for anyone who loves customizing their gear. First off, the quality of the materials is fantastic. The shell feels sturdy, with a premium finish that doesn't pick up fingerprints easily. The buttons are responsive and feel even better than the originals, which was a nice surprise. That said, replacing the front shell is a meticulous process that requires a steady hand and some patience. While the kit includes all the tools you’ll need, be prepared to take your time, especially when dealing with the internal components. If you’re not comfortable with this level of disassembly, I’d recommend watching a few tutorials beforehand or getting help from someone experienced. I went with the transparent shell option, and it looks incredible! It gives the Steam Deck a unique and futuristic vibe that stands out from the standard design. I’ve already gotten compliments from friends who are now considering upgrading theirs too. If you’re looking to add personality to your Steam Deck OLED and are up for the challenge of a careful installation, I highly recommend this housing shell. It’s worth every penny for the fresh look and improved feel!

This shell is way better than the stock boring one the steam deck comes with. The glow in the dark on this shell looks awesome! The process takes 3-4 hours or so and the most lengthy process is removing the screen and adhesive. Lots of things can go wrong when doing this so make sure you are very careful and watch ExtremeRate's video. The shell is great quality, but I did notice that near the USB C port one of the Clicky tabs is on the weak side, although not a problem on other shell swaps I have done with their shells. Other than that, it looks soooooo good and I highly recommend it to people who have experience opening and messing with electronics. Plenty of things can go wrong like breaking ribbon cables, breaking haptic feedback plug when unplugging, breaking tabs on the shell, stress fractures on shell if not aligned properly, cracks from over tightening screws, overheating your screen and ruining it, cracking your screen, and the list goes on and on. Just be aware that this is a lengthy process, but ultimately will look great if you take your time. Extremerate provides everything you need with the shell to take the device apart and install the new shell. I reused the screws that came with the original shell and didn't bother with the ones that came with the new shell. Good luck to others out there!
