Listen, if you've never done anything electronics related before, I would warn you away from this. The whole swap took me six hours total (three and a half for the swap, two and a half to figure out why my buttons didn't work. More on that later.) But, if you've done a few swaps before, this is absolutely worth it. First, buy yourself a different tool kit and a rubber mat. There is a LOT of screws, and you'll want a better screwdriver, suction cup and spudger set than what ExtremeRate gives you. You'll also need a heat gun - a helping hand with the screen is also recommended as it made the process a lot smoother for me. When following the video, I don't recommend removing the screen first. Unplug your battery, take out your joysticks and most of your internals, THEN remove the screen. Less internals are likely to get overheated that way. Go slow on the lowest setting on your heat gun, don't stop moving around the border of the screen. If you have someone else in your household willing to be an assistant, get them to apply constant gentle pressure upwards with the suction cup while you free the screen, it's a lot easier. Do NOT, under ANY circumstances use any metal tools when lifting the screen and removing the old adhesive, or else you will risk ruining the bezel! The guide itself is very straightforward and helpful aside from that one point of disagreement. I think they do a very good job offering a detailed walkthrough, though they neglect one thing. On the bottom left corner of the motherboard, a small ribbon cable connects the motherboard to the daughterboard, which in turn connects it to every other daughterboard. If your buttons don't work after reassembly, THIS SPECIFIC RIBBON CABLE PROBABLY GOT UNSEATED. It's annoying to get back into the board, but once you do, hopefully you never have to do it again. Overall this was a difficult swap, but extremely rewarding. I love this color shell. The product photo is closer to how it looks in real life, but on camera it looks more blue tinted. It seems that in different lightings the shell is either more green or more blue, which I quite like! I've included a picture that I color corrected to display how the shell looks to me in warm light for reference, others are unedited and just taken with my phone camera. ExtremeRate shells are my favorite, and I'm so glad this one exists. I would have liked to do one of the gradient shells (such as the blue-green one, wow!), but none are available for the OLED. This is a huge oversight, please release the gradient shells for OLED!!

I had the special edition Pokémon Gameboy Color that was bundled with Yellow version growing up, but always loved the look of my brother’s Atomic Purple one so I decided to look for a shell like that for my Steam Deck. Thanks to all the others who left helpful reviews prior, I’m glad I went with this specific shell. Great quality, color, and fit. It’s smooth which is fine for me but for others who may want better grip, you may need something a little different or to find an accessory to add. I greatly appreciate eXtremeRate having step by step instruction videos on their YouTube channel! The video helped me understand how straight forward some instructions that I had been overthinking were when I was first reading over them and took out the guess work. I was the tiniest bit off on aligning the screen in one corner and getting all the bubbles out from under the touchpads with the first go, but I feel so comfortable going back and adjusting those after the ease of the initial installation. I switched to this shell set back in October 2025 and I haven’t had any issues with the set or the functionality of my Steam Deck.

Didn't quite fully fit the OLED Steam Deck, but it's alright. A lot of the modifications are permanent, but also optional. It's a huge pain to get the screen back in, and I actually bent some pins trying it out. Otherwise just a standard plastic shell that's stylish

Pretty nice results, only one major difficulty when reassembling (there are very thin plastic pegs at the top, to align the main board, and they're VERY easy to break... but it doesn't really matter if that happens), and a hair dryer is MORE than hot enough. I took some thermal camera pictures out of curiosity, and the glue softened around 140-150F. It needs only a very low temperature, so just point it away from the black plastic frame because it gets hot MUCH faster - pointing straight on, it hit 200F easily.

I recently installed the eXtremeRate Replacement Full Set Housing Shell with Buttons for my Steam Deck OLED, and it has completely transformed the look and feel of my device! The case came with all sorts of cool bits and pieces, but the case is a full body swap. You will be tearing down your steam deck for a few hours. The set I believe was supposed to come with a Philips screwdriver and a t5/t6 screwdriver. I got two Philips instead. I also needed to use some tools from my own pc building kit because the screen suction cup supplied wasn't holding or pulling enough. Other than the stuff mentioned above, the only MAJOR concern I can see someone having is that after swapping over the screen, it does not sit flush to the shell. The screen fits in and seems like it wants to go in flat but just doesn't. The feel of the case is what I can describe as sleek. Very smooth to the touch. Buttons are engraved so you can feel the form of the A/B/X/Y buttons. The case swap came with extra screws and springs just incase which is nice, but nothing else for durability or protection. Quality seems to be high enough. I'll be riding this case out for however long.

The Good: The shell itself is fine. By itself. It’s slightly thinner than the OEM shell and is missing the screw holes around the underside of the screen. Additionally, the screw holes for the case strip out MUCH easier than OEM so be very careful when reassembling. The Bad: Not all of the buttons fit. R1 and R2, in particular, are egregiously off; completely missing the stud for the spring and lacking the clips necessary to hold it on to the bracket. Additionally, the track pad covers do not fit. Not even close. They are missing the clips and are only slightly resembling the same shape around the edges. I spent nearly and hour working the OEM covers off to do this swap. The glue used on these is TENACIOUS and requires liberal heat and careful prying along the edges with a plastic spudger. Imagine my disappointment when I went to install the new one only to find it isn’t compatible. Finally, the inner edge of the case, around the screen, lacks the screw holes to hold the inner frame on firmly and the mounting posts for the ribbon cable components along the top edge do not line up and need to be trimmed. Functionally, this is probably fine but it’s frustrating that it doesn’t attach as securely as the original. Especially when the kit COMES WITH THE SCREWS FOR IT! A final tip. Use heat on anything that uses adhesive, particularly the screen but also any of the tape inside, it just makes removing and reapplying more pleasant. And be VERY patient with the screen, do not force it or it WILL crack. You’ll need more heat to get it started than later on when you’re pealing off the last part so heat the right side to avoid transferring a lot of heat to the battery and remember that you only need to put the pick in about 1/4” or less. The bezel is very small.

Placed the jsaux one on my lcd deck. After six months of having this one on my oled I can say extremerate is just as good. I would steer people to this considering the many options they have. If you're still debating I'll say go for it. Swap isn't that difficult and tutorials provided do a good job showing you each step. Dont rush the oled panel removal and you'll be ok.
