  • Brings out big nostalgia
Color: Glow in Dark Green
The case came with all sorts of cool bits and pieces, but the case is a full body swap. You will be tearing down your steam deck for a few hours. The set I believe was supposed to come with a Philips screwdriver and a t5/t6 screwdriver. I got two Philips instead. I also needed to use some tools from my own pc building kit because the screen suction cup supplied wasn't holding or pulling enough. Other than the stuff mentioned above, the only MAJOR concern I can see someone having is that after swapping over the screen, it does not sit flush to the shell. The screen fits in and seems like it wants to go in flat but just doesn't. The feel of the case is what I can describe as sleek. Very smooth to the touch. Buttons are engraved so you can feel the form of the A/B/X/Y buttons. The case swap came with extra screws and springs just incase which is nice, but nothing else for durability or protection. Quality seems to be high enough. I'll be riding this case out for however long. ... show more

  • Amazing Upgrade for My Steam Deck OLED!
Color: Clear Slate Black
I recently installed the eXtremeRate Replacement Full Set Housing Shell with Buttons for my Steam Deck OLED, and it has completely transformed the look and feel of my device! This kit is a game-changer for anyone who loves customizing their gear. First off, the quality of the materials is fantastic. The shell feels sturdy, with a premium finish that doesn't pick up fingerprints easily. The buttons are responsive and feel even better than the originals, which was a nice surprise. That said, replacing the front shell is a meticulous process that requires a steady hand and some patience. While the kit includes all the tools you’ll need, be prepared to take your time, especially when dealing with the internal components. If you’re not comfortable with this level of disassembly, I’d recommend watching a few tutorials beforehand or getting help from someone experienced. I went with the transparent shell option, and it looks incredible! It gives the Steam Deck a unique and futuristic vibe that stands out from the standard design. I’ve already gotten compliments from friends who are now considering upgrading theirs too. If you’re looking to add personality to your Steam Deck OLED and are up for the challenge of a careful installation, I highly recommend this housing shell. It’s worth every penny for the fresh look and improved feel! ... show more

  • Removing the adhesive is difficult
Color: Clear Atomic Purple
Took some time but it turned out great. Minus 1 star because the kitchen should include a little bottle of alcohol. The biggest issue I ran into was removing the adhesive from the back screen. I ended up erring on the side of caution and removed what I could but the screen sits up slightly. It's uniform but something I may have to fix in the future. ... show more

  • Extremely Difficult, Extremely Satisfying!
Color: Emerald Green
Listen, if you've never done anything electronics related before, I would warn you away from this. The whole swap took me six hours total (three and a half for the swap, two and a half to figure out why my buttons didn't work. More on that later.) But, if you've done a few swaps before, this is absolutely worth it. First, buy yourself a different tool kit and a rubber mat. There is a LOT of screws, and you'll want a better screwdriver, suction cup and spudger set than what ExtremeRate gives you. You'll also need a heat gun - a helping hand with the screen is also recommended as it made the process a lot smoother for me. When following the video, I don't recommend removing the screen first. Unplug your battery, take out your joysticks and most of your internals, THEN remove the screen. Less internals are likely to get overheated that way. Go slow on the lowest setting on your heat gun, don't stop moving around the border of the screen. If you have someone else in your household willing to be an assistant, get them to apply constant gentle pressure upwards with the suction cup while you free the screen, it's a lot easier. Do NOT, under ANY circumstances use any metal tools when lifting the screen and removing the old adhesive, or else you will risk ruining the bezel! The guide itself is very straightforward and helpful aside from that one point of disagreement. I think they do a very good job offering a detailed walkthrough, though they neglect one thing. On the bottom left corner of the motherboard, a small ribbon cable connects the motherboard to the daughterboard, which in turn connects it to every other daughterboard. If your buttons don't work after reassembly, THIS SPECIFIC RIBBON CABLE PROBABLY GOT UNSEATED. It's annoying to get back into the board, but once you do, hopefully you never have to do it again. Overall this was a difficult swap, but extremely rewarding. I love this color shell. The product photo is closer to how it looks in real life, but on camera it looks more blue tinted. It seems that in different lightings the shell is either more green or more blue, which I quite like! I've included a picture that I color corrected to display how the shell looks to me in warm light for reference, others are unedited and just taken with my phone camera. ExtremeRate shells are my favorite, and I'm so glad this one exists. I would have liked to do one of the gradient shells (such as the blue-green one, wow!), but none are available for the OLED. This is a huge oversight, please release the gradient shells for OLED!! ... show more

  • Quality of control issue
Color: Clear Atomic Purple
I was overall disappointed the shell didn’t snap flush into the steam deck, makes me worried about debris getting into the gap. I’ve tried everything to close the gap but nothing seems to work. In terms of the quality and aesthetics of the backplate it looks and feels pretty good. The back buttons feel OEM (although one side of mine shakes a bit). ... show more
