  • A unique and fun advent calendar
Style: The Hunt for the Golden Book
As a fan of many of the EXIT games, I knew that this would not be a letdown. The folks that designed it were very clever and used the box provided to its full potential. Unlike many advent calendars that have numbers printed on its doors, this one challenges you to move from one door to the next by solving puzzles. Sometimes, the puzzles are slightly ambiguous and don't work as well as they should, but most are fun and satisfying. A hint book is provided but my suggestion is to use it sparingly. The solution tends to present itself sooner or later and as you progress through the month, you develop a sense of what to do next. Each morning, I woke up eager to tackle the day's challenge while sipping my morning coffee. Occasionally, the answer came to me too quickly and I was disappointed that my session was over so soon. But more often than not, an adequate amount of solving time got my mind and my day off to a great start. There is most definitely something to be said to solving a particularly clever riddle early in the day - it provides one with a sense of great satisfaction. I will undoubtedly purchase one of the other titles for next December. I feel corny saying this, but it made my Christmas very Merry! ... show more

  • Such a great team game
Style: The Hunt for the Golden Book
The very idea to come up with 24 riddles and then have them all work together is ingenious! My family had a great time working together to solve each day. We wouldn't all be together so it was also something to talk about if anyone missed a day. Well worth the money even though it has no replay ability/regifting. Some of the riddles can be a stretch but most were so clever and a decent level of difficulty ... show more

  • Truly Amazing!
Style: The Mystery of the Ice Cave
This was such an amazing advent calendar! It was well worth the price. When I bought it, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was so surprised to find that it was so much fun and very detailed. Each day was a different puzzle. It wasn't the same everyday. It was difficult enough for my escape room loving adult daughter to really enjoy. The puzzles were challenging, but doable. There are clues and the solution provided in case you get stuck. Really super product. I want to buy one every year. ... show more

  • Great for older kids!
Style: The Silent Storm
If you have older kiddos and you aren't sure what kind of Advent calendar to get that isn't chocolate or too "childish", THIS ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป IS ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป IT!!! When I tell you that we have had the BEST TIME doing this as a family every evening, I mean it. Challenging, entertaining, fun, and so well done. The details and thought that were put into this whole thing (from the riddles to the box itself to the storyline - whole 9 yards) are 10 out of 10, HIGHLY recommend!! Best Advent calendar. ๐Ÿ’• Put it on your list ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป ... show more

  • Second half is better
Style: The Silent Storm
I think this would work well for folks who already play this brand of escape games. The puzzles either got easier, or more polished, or it was easier to think like the designers after reading their earlier solutions. A bit more editing is needed in their solutions as some necessary rooms were not cited. The story line is a bit repetitive, and the mystery was clear to me by day 17. This is a good quality build though. Doors opened easily, were able to stay open, and all the listed contents were present. The two sided manipulatives are cute and nicely cut. This Exit game can quickly be completed (not solved) by testing the limited number of landing codes in the decoder. The solution key is good to confirm the problem solving steps taken. The destructive solutions actually had alternate solutions that were non destructive and not described in the solutions. I've successfully rebuilt the game for reuse. (I used scrap paper to map the doors.). There is one small tear with a non-obvious intent and I was able to stop there because I found a non destructive way to access the code. I did not pull out the insert until every puzzle was solved. They need an editor who either travels more or has read about the North and South poles. SMH. Anyways, the game seemed to get much easier further into the days. The storyline is also pretty sweet at the end if one recognizes the reference. ... show more

  • This was so incredibly fun!
Style: The Mystery of the Ice Cave
My husband and I received this as an early Christmas gift, and so absolutely enjoyed working through the puzzles each day. The game is incredibly well-designed and inventive, we found our selves delighted with how it was put together so cleverly. The puzzles were, for the most part, easily doable within 5 minutes, with 2-3 being trickier. Definitely not too hard for the average person to figure them out. There is also a hint book if needed. Great story, great game play, and the gift of quality time with my husband is priceless! Really canโ€™t say enough good things about this. I bought it for our friends after we did the first puzzle!! ... show more

  • Very creative and well-made
Style: The Silent Storm
I've done many Ravensburger Exit puzzles and games before, and was eager to try this advent calendar. I was so impressed with the set up and story! I completed a lot of it with my 10-year-old daughter, and she also loved it. While it's more expensive than some other Exit products, it was well worth it. There were many times that I was working through riddles and saying to myself how well this was built and how creative the riddles were. I loved everything about it and will be getting another next year! ... show more

  • Fun but was defective
Style: The Silent Storm
This is the second exit advent calendar we have done, Very fun, and enjoying all the little puzzles, wide variety of difficulty in each one. However, It seems the room dividers were not glued/assembled very well. On one side all the rooms cards were getting mixed up due to the divider/side wall of the rooms attached to the bottom board. Still playable, we are managing , although it does make it a little more difficult making sure we find all the cards for the door we are playing, without accidently getting sneak peaks into doors that have not been opened yet. ... show more
