  • Even better than expected!!
I didn't even know these existed until I saw a landscaper using one. This was the most expensive one but reviews seemed better than the couple of other options out there. It took a few min to assemble but was not hard at all. It comes with a canvas bag to fill with sand for weight... I used stones and it works perfect! I thought I would need to add more weight to it but it works amazing the way it is! It feels very durable and solid. So much easier for small patch areas or along fence lines vs. attaching the hitch to my mower and towing my huge one around for smaller or tight areas. I'm already seeing germination from the seeds I planted. Would recommend for sure!! ... show more

  • Needs more weight
This little compact roller works while. It is time consuming bolting all the spikes in the roller but it isn't hard. The only thing I would say is since it is so small it doesn't get real heavy which for some could be good or bad. There are parts of my lawn where I had to go back and forth pressing down to penetrate the soil due to have compact it was but overall it worked good. ... show more

  • Works like it’s supposed to
It’s nice to order a product like this that actually does what it’s supposed to do. Yes-was a pain to put together, but they provide all the tools you need to do it so that’s great. A lot of reviews are saying the spikes don’t sink into the ground- don’t listen to them- they are dumb and didn’t soak the ground prior to using. If you soak the ground the evening before and use product the next morning and go slow ( like you’re supposed to) it works perfectly. ... show more

  • Great product, sturdy and functional, but a pain to put together
This came completely disassembled. Each nail had to be put on individually. However, once you get past that, it’s an amazing product. Very sturdy, works well, and the weight is probably perfect if you don’t have clay soil like us,, but we were able to solve the weight issue by adding some sand to the drum and now it works splendidly. ... show more

  • It Works! And Faster than Using the Spike Aerator “Shoes”
The media could not be loaded. I have a section of lawn that has been cut off from natural drainage because of a large tree growing downslope (which is pushing up the ground) and because of neighbors who have reverse-graded the ground on their side of the fence. So I have tried nearly every manual aerator tool to help keep water from pooling on my lawn. This is the first time I’ve tried a rolling aerator like this one. I always thought they just wouldn’t penetrate the thatch well enough. But I was wrong. Watch the video for a quick demo of the tool. In particular, listen carefully to the video (turn up the volume): you can hear the spikes actually penetrating the thatch and ground. Note, you do need to add weight (sand) to the inside of the tool, and you will need to use a little elbow grease to help push the tool into the ground, but it works. And well at that. This tool will definitely cover more ground more quickly than using the spike “shoes.” Just be certain you always aerate after a rain (or water your lawn well first). A few additional thoughts on this product: First, you do need to assemble all the spikes (see two photos). That took me a solid 45 minutes – there are 39 spikes you need to carefully insert into the holes and individually tighten while using the provided allen wrench and socket wrench. You also need to supply your own sand to fill the inside of the roller. I was able to fit only about 5 pounds of sand inside (contrary to the instructions’ claim that you can add up to 9 pounds). I also strongly recommend putting the sand in a tight zip-lock bag first, then inside the provided burlap sack. With regular use, that burlap sack will likely begin to leak sand. The handle comes in three sections. I only assembled two of those sections. I am on the shorter side and, therefore, prefer my garden tools on the shorter side too. But I also found keeping the tool shorter is helpful to add your weight to the tool as you roll it: you can place the gloved palm of one hand right over the top of the handle pole for leverage. So before you commit to tightening all the pieces of the handle, give it a quick test roll with only 2 sections – then 3 – to see which will work best for you. This product is solid and well-made. It comes with extras for nearly every part including the spikes and even the connector tubes between the handle sections. This aerator will definitely survive an entire lifetime of use. ... show more

  • Great tool!
Assembly was quite the process, but once it was done, it was sturdy! So far its held up really well and has done a great job aerating our lawn! Exactly what we needed!

  • Not happy with product!
Took a while to assemble. Directions weren't all that clear. Product not up to the job of air rating my yard. Just not enough wt to poke nails into the ground. Fear I wasted my time and energy. Screws that hold the handle weren't long enough to secure nuts on the ends
