The block coolers melted quickly and just hated them taking up space in the freezer. These are a set of 4. They come with the thickening agent in it, you just add 12oz of water and within seconds they harden up. Throw in freezer. He used them and after 10 hours came home and they were still frozen! I didn't even know these existed, but I'm glad I came across them. Super easy to set up: 1)put water, 2)shake, 3)freeze. These definitely kept my stuff cold for a solid 8 hours. I used about 2 for a medium cooler, I would say 2 for a small is best, 3 for the medium and all 4 for a larger size.
