I use this little dehumidifier in my tiny bathroom. Even though I have a fan in the bathroom it still would get mildew spots from the steam. I've had this in the bathroom for a couple months now and I haven't noticed any new mildew spots. I have to plug it in every week or two since there is so much moisture in the bathroom, but that is a very easy process. I love the size and ease of use! I have been using these for 10 years. They say that they probably need replaced by ten years, so I ordered several more. They do a great job of pulling extra moisture out of my safes. I did figure out that I can replace the silica beads in the old units. I did not want to do it until I got the new units in place. But there are 4 screws in the back of the unit. You can loosen them and pop off the little door on the side, or take screw all the way out (beads will go everywhere, use a bucket), Dump the beads and order some from EBay. I replaced all the beads in all 3 of my old ones for $16. They are easy to put back together and after you refill the units, you can jimmy the door back in place. It has snap tabs on it, so you can pop the door back in. Each unit holds about 320 grams of beads. ... show more

    • Works great, the only truly "ECO" way to dry out moisture!
This is my second Eva-Dry unit. I live in west central Florida, less than a half-mile from the gulf coast. The EVA-Dry system is the only way to go. I tried the "golden rod" electric dehumidifier, and while that's a good product... it consumes a small amount of power, and just continues to draw that power 24/7. I'm uncomfortable with having a heater element running 24/7 inside my safe. It's wasteful and it's a little risky. Well the EVA-Dry system eliminates that concern entirely! If you're not familiar with this simple system, the EVA-Dry product uses an internally installed packet of pure Silica Gel beads. These beads are hygroscopic (that means they LOVE water!) Like little "molecular sponges" these beads literally suck water from the air and absorb it into the pack. When they do, the normally yellow colored beads gradually turn a dark green color. That's when you know it's time to dry them out. The manufacturer like to use the term "recharge"... spin it any way you want, the beads just need to be dried out. The EVA-Dry unit has a little element in it that acts like a food dehydrator. When the beads dark green color indicate they are full of moisture, I take the unit of out the safe, remove the small built-in electrical plug, then plug the unit in. It takes about 10-12 hours for the built-in dehydrator to dry out the beads. When the gel is dry you'll see the beads turn yellow again... and you're good to go! I unplug the unit, flip the plug back into the EVA-Dry case... and the box is ready to go again. I place the box back into the safe. No cords, no more power needed. The Silica-Gel beads immediately begin absorbing moisture again. In my safe, a fully dried box will last about 2 months (depending on how often I open the safe). When the color turns, it's time to plug the unit in and dry the beads out again. It's brilliant simplicity! No fears of having anything running all of the time, yet very very effective. In my opinion this truly is the way to go. And the price? Well, you can see how cost-effective it is. ... show more

Used once, unplugged and went to rotate plugin back in , and it broke. Almost spilling the beads everywhere! P.S. it almost burnt my camp trailer down also... look how hot that receptacle got!

    • Honest review after 9 monthe
I bought one of these 9 months prior to writing this review. At first my experience with this unit was positive where I saw a definite decrease in the humidity levels. I have it in in a Stack on gun safe about 24 cubic feet that has a golden rod heater and a circulating fan installed along with inside and outside temperature/ humidifier sensors which I have calibrated. I wanted to see if I could get the humidity levels lower. I'm located in northern Illinois where summers are humid and winters are dry. At first the crystals would require recharging about every two weeks, but as time progresses this window became shorter and shorter. After nine months the the crystals will no longer change color from blue back to amber and looking at my sensors the Eva Dri unit has no effect on humidity. Warranty is five years, but you have to register within 30 days of purchasing which I did not do, my fault. I do not know if other units are the same so this is a review of the unit I purchased. A WORD OF CAUTION: These units are made to plug in a standard home 120V outlet to recharge. What I have found in my experience as an electrician any appliance that plugs in and heats up can be a fire hazard if they do become overheated. This applies to the room fragrant devices sold too. The safest way to recharge these units is to use an extension cord and place the device om a concrete floor or other non combustible area, and let it recharge. ... show more

    • VERY SCARY GETS TOO HOT -DOES NOT WORK. DON'T BUY!
DOES NOT WORK. DON'T BUY! The first time I plugged it in to recharge it overnight (9 hours) the color remained green(wet) and the unit got so hot it was too hot to remove without using a dishtowel-scares me. Only had it 6 weeks.

Since getting married, I've discovered just how smelly a closet can get from shoes. For the first year of marriage, I was buying DampRid to absorb the moisture (sweat) from the master closet, but the cost was really starting to add up. I didn't like having to continually buy new packs of DampRid. Then, I stumbled upon this. I love it! I feel much better about spending money on something that is re-usable and will last for years.
